- Nirvana - Radio Friendly Unit Shifter - December 13th, 1993 - Pier 48 (MTV Live and Loud), Seattle, Washington, US
Reuploaded from Vimeo, with some copies already being on UA-cam.
The audio is a direct soundboard source, replacing the professional camera's footage.
This mixing is 100000000x better than the actual live and loud concert mixing
u think ?
@@alinazaranska9135 absolutely. The guitars on Live And Loud are literally so thin
The soundboard audio on 2/22/1994 show that the guitars didn't sound that thin
I'm a guitarist and with Kurt's guitar having a humbucker, no way it would have sounded that thin
I agree, the official release sounds terrible
@@kBlueberry2024 exactly my thoughts, here's the og broadcast
ua-cam.com/video/2uKZxAoQIO0/v-deo.htmlsi=bX3-2m_3zUu12R8Y
The mix is a million times better than the release one, so much more headroom and everything doesnt sound that fuzzy or compressed or thin, all the instruments are properly seperated and sound full, it actually sounds like a concert here
They scooped all the mids on the official release!
I like how we can hear Pat's guitar so well on this soundcheck
Hell yes son
METRONOME AS FUCK !
yeah pats guitar is louder than kurts here!
@@johnpickk7526 found you
@@bearhogg haha hey
I love the creepy distortion sound, it’s like scary and awesome at the same time
It's from the chorus they're using
@@AaronEddieHYo yea, i love that pedal!
Marshall distortion.
He used a BOSS DS 1 distortion pedal into Chorus pedal I think was a Small Clone into a Marshall Plexi maybe or JCM800 or 900. There's a lot of equipment breakdown vids on this. He used whatever sounded good.
@@peacemaker5181 It's the PolyChorus, with SansAmp for distortion. He's plugged into a Mesa Boogie Studio Preamp, with Marshall cabinet loaded with Vintage 30 Celestion speakers
BEST FRONTMAN TO EVER DO IT. ONCE IN A LOFETIME TALENT. POET OF A GENERATION
I like the mixing for the soundcheck more than the actual concert's mixing. Everything sounds clearer here and less compressed. Kurt's guitar could be turned up a bit but i still love this version
I actually think its a better mix then the album verison, one of the greatest soundchecks to ever be filmed.
Sometimes the rough mixes are for the better!
Their sound is just perfect.
their sound has scale
Need bass
It’s better on the final product
Their sound has true grit and emotion. No fake added
Could you define, "scale" in respect to sound.
yess. I will use for you, the analogy used by Cobain himself,,...this is the Puget Sound. Everything who define the sources and the natural qualities of the puget sound is found in Nirvana,...and the voice of Cobain is surfing on the top of this raw and richy loud sound of the currents created by all their tool. A mix of bass wave assembled with the central and mechanical precision of their drummer and then this is capped and projected with their natural boy wired with an imperative speaking, capable of being tainted with irony and obviously with radical exposures. @@euroyen420p2
Pat's strumming on the guitar looks so badass
The way the band's sound just totally fucking AWAKENS after he gets the ok to go ahead & play is monstrous! & Remember THIS IS JUST A SOUNDCHECK!!!
Geezuz Christ, these guys had so much raw, real power & it was just like "meh" to them which is what makes Nirvana oh so magical.
I know in my lifetime there will never be another band to touch these guys.
Music itself will have to be completely re-defined before another can reach their level.
Amen to that brother
It really does feel magical, the feeling I get when listening to Nirvana songs is unlike any other band
They only had one gear..
I agree. There will not and can not be another Nirvana.
Music will be redefined, and there will be other amazing talents for their eras. But there will never be anything like Nirvana.
Shirt term, you've found one of the reasons he had to be taken out. There was too much power from his music .
Genius drummer. My gosh. Genius band.
Brilliant bassist. Brilliant vocalist, & guitarist. Brilliant drummer + band.
They were all powerhouses, with Kurt’s voice probably being the strongest and a 4th instrument
Those guitars sound so good
Its nice to see M.Grohl to play so hard and so Tight inside his posed manner who look like an martial art kata.
I love the vocals on this
Dave is a awesome beast on those drums. 🙃
One of the best song off In Utero, and so much fun to play when I use the polychorus.
It's my fav nirvana song the ending just raw
The quality of this is amazing!!! Haha being in a nirvana sound check must’ve been insane
Thank you God🎦for letting this rehearsal to be recorded and then years later to have someone post it in a video platform called You Tube. I severely regret never seeing Nirvana live and especially with Pat Smear. He was such a perfect fit for this band.
Honestly its better than the original live and loud performance
This Rehearsal is better then the live show even because you can hear the song without the live crowd noise interference. This is great! And the guitars are huge and Dave’s drumming is killer! He’s so powerful and precise at the same time! This is one of the songs that displays his drumming well! And it shows that he is 50 percent responsible for their success because of his incredible playing! He just hammers it home every song!
He actually had an issue with his playing when they had to play the Unplugged show in NYC. He was so used to hitting the drums so hard that the lighter touch required for Acoustic numbers was difficult. He did adjust in time after he bought some brushes that Jazz drummers use. And he developed a lighter touch and played brilliantly!
Dave was clearly half of Nirvanas success and even did great backup vocals.
Ofc, it’s a package! Don’t forget Krists genius and addictive baselines
Too bad Kurt jerked em on the publishing
I think the audience sounds add on to the performances. It makes you feel like you are actuallu there.
He was I give Dave a ton of credit but Kurt wrote the songs, gave the overall vibe of the band. Did the artwork and all that. But I’m not sure they ever broke it big without Dave
I also think Kurt’s songwriting went up a few notches because of Dave.
That bass drop at 1:15 adds so much to the song...
All because Krist was probably adjusting his amplifier, but yeah I agree that little pause gives it so much spank.
Dave is always a beast
Kurt's voice sounds better even than the studio version and the official video itself.
I agree.
I like this version more than the one played during the concert even, it’s like he doesn’t strain as hard when he knows it doesn’t matter.
Killer sound on a killer track. Bravo.
Brilliant clip of Nirvana here.
Incredible footage brings back my childhood
Love the drumming faces Dave’s making
HEAVY!❗ NIRVANA PLAYING FOR KEEPS AS ALWAYS! ❗
Kurt was the god of owning his mistakes.
Lol yep
This song should be played whenever there is a montage of clips. It sounds like it would go together with a montage
Amazing quality
One of my all time favourite Nirvana songs! Great footage!
R.I.P KURT
SUCH a sad loss
This mix sounds so much better. The broadcast mix is so compressed and squashed. This sounds more natural and gigantic in comparison.
Superb view on the process
Its perfect i can hear pats guitar in The background and dave is drumming so hard then Kurts voice makes it more than perfect its magical 🧍♂️🧍♂️🧍♂️🧍♂️🎸💋💋💋💋😎😎❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🎸🎸
what a soundcheck !
Awesome work, man!
people near me always love when I tap my keyboard and desk to this drum beat

Quintessential Kurt.
just the guitar sound at the end when he finally turns the pedals off is nutssss
Thank you.
Magic
Is Scott ever ready?😂😂
It did seem to be a running problem with Scott.
This is sick
Nice vid ❤️
Saludos para todos los club de fans de Nirvana desde Barcelona con amor .paz amor y empatía.
This song never sounded better!
Finally I can figure out what the kickdrum pattern is at the end of the song. I love it.
02/14/1994 has it more clear as well.
Good luck lol
I luv it when the camera man shows himself bumping into other camera man backstage and not showing the actual talent performing.. I'm sure whoever directed this show won an Oscar for best cinematography.. Film Nirvana you q hole!! not some cameraman wondering around aimlessly filming nothing!!!
Wait until you hear that this was a soundcheck...
I think this is the show where Soundgarden came and said the famous thing about the dirt bike riffs to them and Kurt got mad but Kim Thayil smoothed it over and it was cool again
Impresiont
Amazing! Is there more of this? Thanks man!
I believe this and others are on the Live & Loud dvd
I think there's Very Ape? I'm not sure on that.
I hope so, it sounds amazing for listening the playing, way more clean
This video is sourced from two cameras of a multi-camera professional video, with soundboard audio.
It uses video footage from both PRO #1a, PRO #1b and PRO #2.
Includes "Very Ape" and "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter" only.
"Very Ape" cuts in.
Circulating copies are sourced from MP4 video files posted on MTV's webbpage.
I learned that it’s not on the Live and Loud DVD, it was on the MTV website for a little bit in 2013. Very Ape isn’t soundboard unfortunately, it’s open mics.
Wow I want to be Nirvana itself.
nice man
Wow..
Голос Курта и гитары как 1000 циркулярных пил, которые приникают в мозг через Вены
yes sir
Que te Vi 4 veces en concierto 3 en españa.1 en Munich que puedo decir fue los mejores tiempos de mi vida podría volver señor Dios solo pido este deseo llévame a los años 89 en adelante porx Kurt a love
So professional….
Ok:casually releases hell
Saw it live.
Soundcheck?
So weird to see krist just standing there
Carrying a heavy glow here
Man that guitar tone though.. nassssstttyyy. Soo much better than the live version.
Radio friendly unit shifter😎😎😎😎😎😎
Musica do in utero TOP
Dave should have stuck to playing drums. 😳
Kurt’s regular voice is awesome haha
What the fuck Scott, you should be ready to go when the gods call
He was even worse at the Unplugged rehearsals.😂
Thumbs up straight away whatever
It’s Nirvana ffs !
😜
Even better than the real thing... (u2). Shh. For real this kick ass.

Does anyone know what Pedal’s he’s using to make those sound’s? I don’t know much about pedals so I’m curious it sounds awesome
Polychorus, but not the reissued one.
@@Kurtis666yep gotta find an old one
I would fucking hate sound check lmao I can tell he does
Souncheck is not fun, especially not when you have to go through the drums one by one and just beat it for minutes on end 1 at the time
I think it sounded ok 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏾👍🏾👍🏽👍🏽
this is a great song, though Kurt seems annoyed they can't get it right in the beginning
i think this soundcheck sounds better cos KC is more pissed off here. The all apologies soundcheck is brilliant too
0:47 Can anyone tell me what Kurt said ? I’m French have mercy 😭
“We’re just gonna stand here till someone tells us to play, okay?”
On va simplement rester debout (a rien faire) jusqu’à ce qu’on nous demande de jouer
In turkey we say" Sohbete Fransız kalmak" its english is something like that "being french in chat" it means, i dont understand anything from you talking, dont understand anything from chat 😃😃
Why did he have to die this beautiful soul
Because he wasn't happy with all this and just couldn't bear it anymore
Try asking💉Courtney!!
Because he knew how shitty the future would be.
even a f&ckin sound check is exciting with these guys.
Why did live recordings have a better sound before than they do now that we have better tech?
Probably analog controls, but also different engineers being exposed to a different world than what was known previously.
No way I've never seen this

Yo this shot looks cool af 0:59
I like distortion

Those are the same shoes he was wearing when he was murdered a couple months after this.
Yawn. And what’s funny is you edited it to add murder instead. What a fuckin lame
Looks like it was filmed on a smartphone
Así me apodan muchos Nirvana ejeh luego el Nirvana otros Kurt Kurt eh eh
1993 when people had those big cameras to take videos of Nirvana.
Pro tv cameras
Nirvana's main contribution to rock and roll history was wearing long underwear with bermuda shorts. Well, I guess it's cold up in the middle of nowhere where they lived.😂
Sucio y desprolijo. LA MEJOR BANDA DEL MUNDO
0:34 What he said? " tu Italiano? " ?
he said "should we play now?" if I am not mistaken
Jag-Stang, baby!
That's actually his sonic blue Mustang, but he did play a powder blue JagStang toward the end. A lot of people will say he never got one, that they came out after he died. They are wrong, he got at least one before their official release.
@@lorenfulghum2393 Thanks for clearing that up, appreciate it.
