  • This one had gone away with my old UA-cam account, so here it is once again.
Original text file included with the torrent:
    TRIP SHAKESPEARE
    APPLETON, WI
    MAY 18th 1991
    NTSC DVD
    1) 00:00 Fireball
    2) 04:32 Bachelorette
    3) 07:58 The Crane
    4) 12:35 Lulu
    5) 16:55 Turtledove
    6) 20:55 Patricia
    7) 27:55 Look At The Moon
    8) 31:25 Fangs
    9) 34:23 Swing (cut)
It's been so great to see all the Trip Shakespeare on Dime recently; some of the shows are even from some of my old uploads, so it's nice to see them still out there. To keep the Trip going, here's some very rare live video from 1991. I don't know much about this performance, other than the date and location, but it looks like it was performed in someones backyard. Maybe someone here can shed some light on this show.
Unfortunately, the video is cut short, soon into 'Swing,' as a security guard had the taper shut their camera off. What a loss.
Also, the vocals are sort of buried, but considering how little Trip Shakespeare there is available on video, it's still an exciting show to have.
The DVD is all one chapter, which is as I received it. Much thanks to the original videographer and the fellow Trip enthusiast that sent it to me.
I hope to get some more live Trip audio up in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
And last but not least -
    Enjoy!

Hey - I taped this! It was during an annual event at Lawrence University called "Celebrate" or maybe "Celebration". Usually for this event they had the bands set-up at the base of a hill full of people with the Fox River behind them, but it had been raining a lot and the hill was too muddy. This stage arrangement was hastily set-up as an alternate location in a square between a trio of dorm buildings. When Matt says "We thought we were going to play in front of a majestic hill" that is what he is talking about.
I was 18 years old with a Panasonic VHS camcorder. This was my first concert in the sense that I had listened to the music over and over but had no real idea what they looked like or who was singing.
I was too young and naive to think there was going to an issue with me standing directly in front of John right up against the stage with a giant camcorder. My older friends who were on the Lawrence radio station were very supportive about me standing right up front. Too bad the audio got blown out by being so close to the PA.
The girl who keeps screaming is my girlfriend at the time Erica who introduced me to the band.
Now I run a music venue...go figure. It was a great show. I think Fireball is the best part.

Thanks a lot for recording it! Honestly I didn't think much of "Fireball" until I set myself to sync this video with another audio. It's one of the highlights from Applehead Man for me now.
So they just told you to stop? By any chance did you see anyone else recording it also? It'd be great to know the rest of the setlist. Thanks again!!

@@braulioacosta6816 It's been so long I could never remember the set-list. It was probably recorded by the guys with the radio show with a pocket tape recorder, but finding them would be pretty tricky after 27+ years. If I ever find them I will send them to you!

Thank you so much for recording this! What an amazing band. Far and away the best live band I've ever seen, such manic and chaotic energy. And you never knew what to expect in Toolmaster of Brainerd!

What are the odds. I’m a block away from Lawrence in Appleton. Thanks for the upload!

I got into Trip almost one year after this show. By that time, they were done. I would’ve given just about anything to have been there in Appleton to have seen this. Trip was sorely overlooked and, though Semisonic later became popular with “Closing Time,” the majority of Semisonic’s work simply doesn’t stand up to Trip’s. Thank you for sharing this especially for those who never had the pleasure of seeing them live!

One of the truly great, though largely unrecognized, bands of the 90s.

THANK YOU! Finally, a REAL flash from my college past. This was HANDS DOWN the GREATEST group. Such raw talent. So much, in fact, they had to go their separate ways....What a treasure to watch and relive the glory days. Put a huge smile on my face.

I grew up on this!!!! My parents were huge fans and saw them many many times, especially in Madison WI. They should have been huge, but it’s kind of cool that they are our little secret!

Thanks for posting this! One of my all-time favorite bands (and, as a former music critic, I've listened to and seen a hell of a lot of bands). Brings back great memories!

Trip Shakespeare was awesome and I was privileged to see them 10-ish times in places like Iowa City and KC. With their songwriting, musical talent, high energy, and fun live shows, they were the best!!!

Just about every comment on here feels like one I would write! Northwestern '91-'95, they headlined our Dillo Day (Spring Fling) freshman year and a quintessential musical experience of my college years. Came to UA-cam tonight in search of live version of Look at the Moon, and it all comes back. I would move mountains for a reunion show with these guys, and the people who were with me at the time!

Lawrence University. I was there. This was a one-off gig, not part of a tour. I'm pretty sure they were still in the studio recording Lulu.

Trip Shakespeare was the soundtrack to my college days at Iowa State. I saw them for the first time at The Maintenance Shop in February of 1987 and never missed an opportunity to see them after that, including their final show at the Cabooze in Minneapolis on 5/22/1993. Matt still plays in Minneapolis a lot, still a damn good songwriter.

I'm not gonna bitch one single bit about this timeless video, but I really wish they had done The Slacks or Toolmaster. What a great video though. It's a rare trip (pardon the pun) back in time.

im sure there are videos of them performing both songs. I think I actually downloaded them from Facebook but since they don't belong to me I couldn't upload it. Not that this does, but it was uploaded to an open website.
