Golden Smog truly combines the talents of its mother bands like- The Jayhawks, Uncle Tupelo/Wilco, Soul Asylum but evolved its own distinct sound combining witty lyrics, melody, vocal harmonies, sparse but sound instruments .
It sounds like an impromptu jam band without the lengthy improvisation
My favorite concert of all time. Remember how I felt, who I was with, & knew it was a magical musical moment at the time.
How fun to find this, huge Smog fan, these guys were great....still can't figure out how Wilco got so big and left The Jayhawks in the dust.
I think Wilco made the switch from alt country to experimental alt rock at right time. Contemporary bands like The Jayhawks and Son Volt remained faithful to Alt country . This genre attracts dedicated cult audience with the exception of a few popular artists like Lucinda Williams, Jason Isabell . Despite obvious talent , Drive by Truckers never achieved the popularity of a Southern rock band like Lynyrd Skynyrd
Wilco took risks , Jayhawks stayed in their comfort zone till this day

This was a great show!! I worked as a volunteer and saw so many great bands for free. Man Noah hits those drums so damn hard.. Love it!!

Pretty sure I was here live deep in the crowd. Where has the time gone? I would have been 32 at the time. So fun seeing this up close. I recognize all the players except who was on the drums? Always love seeing the beautiful Jessy Greene.

@@codybruner7608 at the Basilica Block Party, Basilica Catholic church fund raiser on the west edge of downtown Minneapolis. To answer my own question it was Noah Levy from the Honeydogs on the drums.

Almost turned off when Father Michael O'Conner took to the stage. The church looks rather opulent already, hasn't the church taken enough money from the community?
'Cities 97' seem to be doing a fabulous job, with their cd sampler complilations - Cities 97 sampler Vol. 8 etc..
