I just realized I forgot to feature fanart on the endcard!! I'm so sorryyy don't worry if you sent some ill still feature it next time Was so excited to post after so long I forgot and rushed straight to uploading 😅
Another thing that annoys me with toyhouse is people being overly-aggressive, either with tags being like “DONT EVEN F******** THINK ABOUT OFFERING” or profile warnings like “if you do x I’ll kill you, or if you like [this thing] get the f*** off my page” etc, it makes the site so unwelcoming to newcomers and I wish the site generally had a kinder environment. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told to like kms or some super rude message just for offering/asking for pings on a character in a kind manner when it was never made clear not to. Generally I wish people would response with something like “sorry, they are actually not for offers!” instead of berating them
people are way too comfortable going ballistic over the simplest things honestly. if i'm really THAT annoyed with someone i'll def be kinda dry/have a little bit of an attitude ("nty i'm not accepting offers") but i genuinely don't understand why people have to yell at each other / act like they've been brutally injured bc of something that simple like honestly, i have an issue with my temper acting up too quickly, but that's why, if i can tell i'm about to get upset, i would rather just not reply at all. most people will understand that NO response, IS a response. and if they reply again i'm probably relaxed by then and can reply kindly. and a lot of people breaking boundaries like that probably aren't thinking too far into it and will forget about it if they dont get a notification. wish people thought about that more. just don't respond at that point if you're going to tell someone to kts
@@Qwizz yeah it’s honestly unreal to me how people have no self control on this app, like people need to realize if someone offered on a character, they probably didn’t know or don’t mean anything bad. Once I asked for pings on a character where i did not see anywhere on the profile to not ask for them, and then the person preceded to IP block me, block me on all socials, write me an extremely rude message, and then when they realized we shared a discord server, harassed me there too and tried to make me out to be the bad person in front of everyone, and this person was a 20 year old adult 😭 actually wild to me how people can act over pixels on a screen
the labeling of designs as LQ MQ HQ [low quality, mid quality, high quality] is super rude and unnecessary. i've seen people say they refuse to trade for a design cus its lq and its just like-- just say no thank you?? no need to go insulting that artist omg O_O
Fr, like calling someone else's art not "quality" is basically like saying their art isn't good enough. In my opinion all art is top quality because they spent time on it! ❤️ the only time the word quality applies to art is if an image gets compressed and becomes more pixelated and someone wants to see the original file or whatever lol
I get what you mean by that, kids on Amino did that ALOT and it was super annoying and strange?? But from what I've found it's mostly relating to image quality (At least in my experience lmao) and it's not really trying to insult the original artist or anything. I think people on TH and places like Amino prefer a more high quality image of OCs/adopts mostly because images over there were generally very terrible quality and blurry because of the way saving images worked back then. It's not so bad on TH though! But that's my understanding of the LQ MQ and HQ (Though who uses MQ lmaooo)
wth people actually do that??? that's so fricking rude omg, i think I might just cry if someone were to label a design I put effort into as "low quality" :')
Not defending it, infact rlly dont like the process I always found it so strange, but in my experiece it always felt like it wasnt about art quality, and more about like 'percieved time' if that makes sense. Ive seen gorgeous art on a profile for sale labled LQ but art of similar quality but higher quantity + small bits of lore count as HQ. I guess the idea being your getting more effort into a single concept than just a png. But thats just my experience, and i feel we have a better way to show that than what feels like an insult to someone's efforts-
Yeahh I've seen some people like you around where they use toyhouse for character storage and not for trading and I can see how it would be super annoying if someone starts posting random offers on ur ocs in that case
I mainly use mine for character storage but I have a dedicated and clearly labelled 'Adopts' section and thankfully between that and my profile stating 'other than characters residing in the 'adopts' folder none of my characters will ever be up for sale so please don't ask' I've never had anyone making offers for anything that wasn't already up for sale in the first place.
I also use it for character storage! It's a super handy tool and makes it really easy. I always wanted to use Tumblr but the layout makes it really difficult to figure out. I even learned coding so that I could design my own portfolio and showcase my characters on Neocities, but quickly realized that storage space is an issue and my dream of fancy pages for each character would be extremely difficult. Toyhouse makes it really easy and wonderful, and I like that. But the concept of character trading makes me anxious, and I dread someone ever asking me to buy one of my characters or offer me one. I design characters for people privately, and after that it's completely free use for them. But I don't understand the concept of pre-designing bulk look-alike characters and then selling them (character designing is really personal for me, so the art trade community is just a bit confusing!) It seems like a lot of fun but it's something I can't wrap my head around, so I don't do it ^^" and I hope all the warnings I've put on my page are enough lol
@@chen9833 "settings--visibble to--- only me Toyhouse is very confortable to me for organice the characters from my grafic novel on a very intuitive way so I don´t have to put them on google documents or somenthing, so of course ALL OF THEM are hiden for evade people who think they are toys xd
Something that annoys me is that SO many people think they own a colour palette?? I completely understand not wanting people to copy your characters, but colour picking your characters colours is not copying. You can't claim a colour palette as your own!!!
I feel like you’ve talked about it before but god I hate those super gatekeepy artists who have those rules like No color picking, no inspiration, etc etc. The inspiration one is wild to me, ESPECIALLY when their design is inspired by like, a cannon character/meme/literally just a real animal with very few (if any) variation. “Color theft” doesn’t even apply to characters as far as I’ve researched, it’s so ridiculous that (mainly big artists) can get away with harassing people over stuff like that- obviously stealing/tracing is it’s own thing but c’mon- you don’t own like, a red fox with heterocromia (as a hopefully random example)-
I feel like to a certain extend I kind of understand it; mainly with big artists who sell alot of adopts it probably feels shitty for someone to basically make an off-brand version of a character of theirs, specially if it was a character for sale, since its basically like getting the character without having to pay for it. I saw an artist who I've followed for a bit now go through something like that recently, where basically every single design they posted, a specific artist would basically make their own version, using the exact same colors in the same ways, extremely similar character traits and features, etc. So while I understand why some artists might not want for others to take heavy inspiration from their designs, I totally agree that completely preventing other people from taking even the lightest of inspiration or color picking whilst not using the colors in the same ways and other stuff like that is WAYY too strict, like I feel artists who feel that way completely forget that they themselves didn't create their characters from thin air, but instead were inspired by many sources and probably took elements from other art and character designs they like
@@died897 oh definitely agree! However I’ve seen so many of those big artists make characters that are one to one with the IRL animal, colors, markings, etc with pretty basic changes. Maybe making it fluffier, giving a splash of unnatural color (usually in the eyes), giving it extra hair (usual tuft or actual hair), or just some neck accessory. In cases like that it’s basically impossible not to “rip them off” since unless you make it super complex they’ll typically cry theft and blast you- Most certainly nuance! This is pretty complex to begin with, but hopefully I’m coming across somewhat clear. Definitely against intended theft, if that wasn’t obvious lol.
Tbh one of my biggest gripes with th is the culture that has cropper up that makes people feel like they have to sell character's they own the moment they dont have a use for them. I dont know how many times ive seen "im still attached but I dont have a use for them". Like its a character, find a use for it if you still want it or just keep it. Why do we have to justify owning things that make us happy because we arent using it atm? Just because someone else might have more use that doesnt mean you have to sell something you dont want to
thats literally all my characters atp too lol. most arent up for sale at all but i still have them on my TH and im not accepting offers for them. Some people ive bought from have had to sell characters due to needing the money for smthn but the people who just toss characters willy nilly confuse me
@@exist4046 I almost never sell characters I own, adopts yes but never characters I either bought or made for myself. I buy them because I like them and even if I'm not actively using them I still get enjoyment from them, plus I'm always making new stories and worlds that I could fit characters into. I think part of it is people feeling pressured to sell any oc they aren't actively using and not wanting to be labeled as a character hoarder, people are so obsessed with having "normal" amounts of ocs. It's weird that people feel like they can't have too many characters when that literally can't hurt anyone, unless you're going into actual debt buying ocs what's the harm?
fr, the idea of "character hoarding" is stupid imo. they're characters. they're art. who gaf. as someone with hoarder family members, it's a much bigger problem than just having lots of characters on toyhouse
You often point out how unwelcoming the site can feel and I agree. I store my characters there and keep up with irl friends, but I just can't bring myself to interact with the community. There's so much hostility, and some strange snobbery with trading. I'm especially saddened by terms like LQ MQ and HQ. Really wish the art community in general could be kinder to each other right now.
my "dreamies" folder is just titled "characters", i use it as a "yooo this character is so cool........ fav" folder rather than a shopping list. if a character in my "characters" folder is up for sale, cool. im not foaming at the mouth and shelling out all my money immediately.
For me I’ll save characters I like to my assorted folders but if I really like them I’ll leave them unsorted so it’s easier to see if they become ufo or are still open to being adopted! I’ve been trying not to be an impulse spender so I leave them there and check up like once a day and decide if it’s really worth buying them because I usually cannot responsibly afford them 😭
never been uncomfortable with pings or dreamie folders since im a fairly confident and understanding person. however offering on characters that have not been explicitly stated as you can offer or ask to offer is CRAZY (like sometimes ill see a folder say offers okay and ill ask if i can offer on a character in that folder, but never just upfront offering on a character that has nothing like 'offers okay' or 'ask to offer' in the character bio, or folder bio!?!?!?) honestly plan to update my dreamie folder since honestly i just through the most random designs in there i think are pretty and dont really plan on offering if they are ufo ever. edit: also wait early to a qwizz video who am i !??!
Every time you causally drop that you’re a child in videos, it’s a jumpscare, because I feel like your videos are so well-produced and your opinions on these sorts of things feel very well-rounded! You’re very skilled and introspective. You should be proud!
@@corasundae child just means below the legal age!! here it's 18. child and minor are synonymous! it can also refer to younger children but it depends how it's used in the specific context
This is the reason I am sometimes uncomfortable using Toyhosue but its just too usefull not to. I basically never sell characters because I disliek treating them like property or objects, i treat them mroe like actual people. So if some random ass perosn coems around asking to buy my character (and esscentially making them smth you can buy for value) it just makes me extremely uncomfrotable
A lot of the time people dont want their characters in wishlist-dreamie folders because of theft, or heavily referencing from their designs. Some people will use their wishlist as more of a 'I like these design traits' and can even make adopts or ask people to make customs based on that wishlist folder... which if its a character or design the creator is personal about that can make people pretty unhappy. Personally I don't care too much but its a valid point of view.
I made a full-body iguana custom for someone with clothing refs and they ghosted me for 2 months. I gave up on them and found someone else willing to trade for this guy and they haven’t replied in a month now. Please don’t offer on characters if you can’t go through with it…. We could be using that time to get actual offers instead of putting them on hold for months
IMO, I loveee seeing people add my characters to dreamie or wishlist folders, it really boosts my confidence in my own designs and such!! Not that I’m necessarily gonna give them the character, but it makes me happy knowing people like my designs or characters :3
honestly I so agree with the wishlist/dreamie folders. I personally have many comfort ocs, or ocs I simply really cherish, and I hate that sometimes despite the character being strictly nft, there is still some person that will put it in their wishlist, as if the character is for trade in the first place. and personally I have so many characters i wish to have, or artists who's designs I would love to have no matter which one, and even so my folder for those is literally named "fav artists". beside not ever going against anyones tos/wishes in general, it also can just show people offering for my ocs the type of designs I like, because obviously they are favorites for a reason.
Very much agree with the dreamie/wishlist thing,, I don't like them exactly for the reason you brought up, I don't like my account(s) being treated as shoping lists. To the point Ill check where favorited characters were put, and delete the favorite if needed. Its just very off putting for me to SEE someone keep an eye on my ocs for the sol reason that they want to own them.
my BIGGEST PET PEEVE EVER is super long public blacklists accusing literal children of heinous crimes wit zero evidence. im sorry but slapping "dont harass anybody" at the end will NOT stop ANYTHING 🪦
people doing that is lawsuit territory because of how it could mess up income streams, but apparently people’s right to ‘feel safe on the internet’ [used to mean slandering people they find annoying with no consequences] is more important
I rewatched this video and with some thinking I have more to add. I don't get a lot of offers in character's I own but the few times I have I noticed that they are usually offering based on the designer. What I mean is that the designer is their friend or significant other so when they notice a design by them is going "unused" they offer. I was an active user in two different adopt communities, instagram and amino so I can say that people will hoard the designs of people they know even if they don't have a use for them. Ex friend of mine did that with me, would go around inquiring about my designs and buying them until they had so many they did a th purge because they didn't have a use for half of them. I think it is a bit of a problem, they buy characters or ask about characters not because they want them but because of their emotional attachment to the creator
i agree abt dreamie culture being weird, i hate the idea of someone looking at my personal characters and going yeah i wanna own that. cuz like. idk its fucking weird thats My character and i dont even have a trade folder on my account because im not ever going to sell these characters or trade them away. im not designing adopts im designing characters for my fuckin stories and worldbuilding. im not giving em to anyone else Ever so the idea of them being put in dreamie folders is just fuckin weird to me it feels like theres an expectation that ill just stop using these characters and immediately get rid of them by sending them to the highest bidder it feels insane
Tbh i would just tell the people that once the character is in their hands, i am in NO WAY responsible for it anymore like its ur property now and if ur gonna be problematic with it then go tf ahead but i want nothing to do with it
I can't tell you how many times people lowballed me, offered on NFS ocs, and ignored MANY warnings (profile, character profile, character warning, folder), and tried to offer on characters I got literally under five minutes ago. For crying out loud, I got a character though a raffle and the person clearly didn't do research! It's a bit crazy out here.
i mainly use my TH for oc storage and organisation, but i do like to adopt character designs, though i don't interact much with the community and only offer on characters once the seller's profile passes my vibe check. i also don't usually resell characters after i acquire them. i don't usually do impulse character purchases, if i buy something it usually means i'm already attached to it. and i usually find these characters via people i already know, or via responsibly moderated discord servers. so i don't have much reason to put myself out there on the toyhouse forums or whatnot. i keep to my own little corner populated by my friends and mutuals, and for the most part i haven't really had anyone bother me by offering on my ocs. this one kid politely asked if my oc was EO and when i responded no they respected that so i wasn't uncomfortable. i've had people add my ocs to fave folders but i've never seen them be put into a dreamie folder so idk how that feels firsthand, though i know it wouldn't make me uncomfy enough to block someone from that alone. my fave folders are like: "your character is cool" - what it says on the tin with no extra implications, i like the character but have no intention of owning them, and i have tiers within that folder for the ones i like even more, "your character is awesome", "your character is epic", and "your character is the best" that last one usually being reserved for my friends' ocs who i'm attached to in a similar way to how i'm attached to my friend. then i have a kinda?? dreamie folder but it's called "adoptables i kinda like" a title which intends to convey that 1. i only add ocs to it that were marked up for offers at the time of me faving, and 2. it's not a shopping list, it's literally just "i like this design that happens to be for sale and i may or may not consider trading for it". something i hate about toyhouse culture tho, is the hatred for "hoarding". like some kid will see a person with more than 30 characters on their account and throw a fit, meanwhile my 27 year old self has been coming up with original stories since i was a literal toddler, each having a wide cast of characters, each of whom i love dearly and want to keep and have organised on the silly website, and I have started adopting other people's designs to add to my vast interconnected oc multiverse lore that I add to all the time, sitting here with my 500+ ocs: [sweats nervously even though i know i'm perfectly valid in having all those characters for worldbuilding reasons and i don't have to justify myself to anyone but im scared of the unhinged internet children who were never taught respect and manners] speaking of that.... gosh your brief comment about changing the terms of trade retroactively hit like a brick, you don't even know how significant that is. my best friend who owned a few designs by this one guy and was very attached to them, cut the guy off because he was toxic af, like no matter how toxic of a person you imagine when i say that, i can guarantee you he was worse. the toxic guy then kicked up a fuss because my friend had blocked him and thus didn't allow him access to see the profiles of his designs, proceeded to block evade all over the place, spread lies about my friend, and retroactively changed his tos to say that if you block him he has the right to revoke the designs. like buddy no thats not how legal contracts work you absolute child. bro really tried to steal back the character several times while sending so many death threats and inappropriate nsfw comments and commissioned p**n of the character (a feral animal whose rightful owner is sex repulsed ace btw) and he got banned from the entire toyhouse like 67 billion times and kept ban evading and then crying about getting banned and then in the same message telling the toyhouse admin and my friend to kts 😭 the funniest part is how this dude is comically bad at laying low, like he got a new account and started reuploading his characters to it and then crediting the oldass art i drew for him to my main account as if i wouldn't see it immediately and tell my friend what account to block XD none of this is exaggeration btw (except for "67 billion" obviously) there are unironically people like this in the world and on the internet and i fear. re the note at 11:42 i actually used to know a guy who did exactly that. my friend made a character who was a grey cat with green accents but later sold them, and the ex-friend who bought them made them completely green and not even close to the same shade of green. and guess what, this was the same guy i complained about in the previous paragraph LOL. also i know someone who bought a light grey and yellow character and redesigned them to be dark purple with rainbow accents im not even exaggerating. you wouldn't be able to tell it was meant to be the same character if shown the images side by side without the toyhouse profile context.
god i wish i could pin this vid to my toyhouse profile 😭 i've been on there since 2016 and it genuinely feels like the community has only gotten worse since then. all the problems you mentioned and the general disregard for profile warnings (hello?? they're here for a reason!!!) has made toyhouse such an... uncomfortable environment when interacting with it's community. i've had to explicitly state on my main account that no one is for sale and then make a sales/trade account for the offers on my characters to finally stop. and, as much as i hate to say it, turning maturity block on has also helped a LOT in keeping my profile as a nice, safe space for me to host my characters. i understand that children don't necessarily know how the community works but i genuinely wish some of them would *try* to learn before jumping right into it and wreaking havoc i think another massive issue with toyhouse is it's management, though this is more like an open secret than anything. the site being in closed beta since 2015 (roughly. i don't remember the exact year) already says a lot about it's staff and development team (if there is any!). thankfully the communication between the site owner has increased a little this past year, but still. i know they can't manage the community side all too much for obvious reasons, but they could definitely do better on the character trading side. (ex. well known design stealers still being active and reuploading stolen designs multiple times with the site taking zero action, people "taking back" a design because they don't like how the new owner is using it, etc) but, yeah! it was really refreshing to see someone talk about this publicly (and not in the depths of toyhouse's forums 💀) and i can't help but agree on all the points you made! not sure if you're gonna touch the subject again in the future, but if you do, i'll be looking forward to it :3
Was halfway through a comment about how my approach to wishlist characters was just to call the folder "cool characters" and then you say to do effectively that lmao.
I appreciate designers who state that backing out of a bid or ghosting will result in a blacklist or warning. I used to think it was a bit extreme but you're right! It's a whole paycheck for them! Unless you back out for something urgent of course
wanted to comment on the dreamie folder bit, i like the idea of renaming the folder with like a heart emoji or smth i actually might do that lol but i also have rule for myself about that too, i only put characters in that folder if i KNOW they are apart of a purge/sales account cause i know people are uncomfortable with the idea i totally get that, i dont think i would mind people putting my characters in a dreamie folder personally (good luck trying to get them lol) but i can totally see how it would make someone uncomfortable too i also think that if people are thinking of selling and rehoming characters to maybe think of getting a sales account? thats what i did so i dont have to deal with people trying to offer on a main character on a story like no omg obv this isnt a need but i think it be a good alternative! idk i know everyone doesnt want to deal with managing 2 account tho lol
This is honestly so real, Ive had SOOOO many people come up to me and ask me if they can offer for my MAIN FOLDER characters! I have some honeybeest designs and people constantly ask me if they can offer them??? Meanwhile, I made an animation featuring the character 2 DAYS ago. This character is like the main one on my channel, where did you ever get the idea they were ever for offer?? x.x
I joined toyhouse like a few months ago and one of my biggest fears is someone trying to get one of my characters, as I said in my bio that all my characters are forever homed and not for trade I do occasionally do trades for characters that I can look at and be like “OH MY GOD I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I CAN DO WITH THAT CHARACTER” or just that I like super duper loved the design on, cause I like getting characters (despite the fact I had 500+ before joining toyhouse..) So I have a few characters that I didn’t make, but like I have a reason for it and it’s cause I’ve made SO MANY before joining toyhouse that I’m running out of design ideas I’m worriedly awaiting the day I get called a character hoarder…..
i have a dreamies folder but it’s more of like a “if offering premade characters these are the types of designs i think are cool!” so they have an idea of what i like
ALSO I make sure to check people’s warnings, the characters bio, and the characters tags before adding them to that kind of folder. If they prefer I didn’t I won’t add them! Simple
i have this one character where two people commented asking about the availability of him, the first asking to make an offer and the second asking to be pinged for if he does go up for offer. my profile warning at the time said to not make offers on my characters unless stated otherwise and there was nothing on the character's page that said that he would be up for offer at all. im not even that huge in the trading scene either. im having so much fun here [sarcastic]
There was a character that was put up for sale, but the current owner wouldn’t give a minimum they wanted for it. Convo went like this (between them and another user): User: 10 usd Owner: refusal User: how much are you looking for Owner: There is no specific amount that I am looking for, I can just say that $10 is not enough for me User: I can do 20 Owner: still not enough Like, just give a damn price quit being like this..
i dont use TH that much but am thinking of updating my characters profiles sometime over the summer. the first thing i did was adding a "please do not offer on my characters" blurb on my profile because all this trading culture seems like. a Lot to deal with, honestly. i already struggle coming up with a few ocs every year and get attached really hard, so the idea of trading them away to a stranger is not my jam. i hope everyone in the comments actually into trading has a good trade summer where people are decent to each other!
The community can be a bit much sometimes but as someone who joined relatively recently (2-ish years ago) my experiences have been mainly pretty positive!! I love it as a place to store character art and information, it has helped me so much to keep track of the over a hundred little guys I've made over the years lol. There's stuff like the forum games and "draw for the person above you" sort of stuff which are honestly pretty fun. If you're interested in the trading side of things there's lots of cool designs out there either for trade for art, characters or for pretty reasonable prices. I definitely would reccomend avoiding corners like the "service reviews" forums since those can get pretty toxic. If you don't want to interact with the community entirely you could also keep your characters as private or only for authorized users, and only give keys to those who you want. I feel like there's still ways to get alot out of TH if you're an OC artist or have lots of characters. If it's appealing to you I'd say give it a shot! Don't let other people affect your enjoyment of things ^^
I joined very recently and there’ve definitely been some bad encounters and weird profile warnings (most are fine but some people will be really aggressive in their warnings or say “if you like this character/are in ____ fandom dni” like brother be so fr) but overall I’d say it’s pretty cool (especially as someone who had no OCs before and now really adore a few of mine
The ONLY things I really ask from my sale T.O.S are no NSFW and no demonic/religious art of my designs, and I've gotten requests to do both of those multiple times. 😭😭 I almost feel like it's not hard to understand why someone would be uncomfortable with either of those things but here we are. 😕 edit: but for the record i don't ever sell supernatural characters, and all of them are usually very fluffy and wholesome so that makes it all the more weird.
Most character trading culture is confusing to me lol, my ocs are very emotionally important to me and i put a lot of myself into them. Sometimes I’ll make an oc that i don’t have a lot of attachment to and give it to a friend who will cherish it more, or vice versa, but i guess it’s just a culture i don’t really participate in. I think the only character Ive made art to trade for was a silly horrible gummy cat thing that i kind of treat as a joke. I needed it because it was Stupid and i loved it
I have never sold a character for money, only for art/characters but my personal TOS is: Once I transfer the character to you I have no control over it. Do whatever you want, it's yours. While I kinda understand having stricter regulations on a design you created this is just how I like to do it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
One "small" pet peeve I have also as an adopt seller is if you happy when somebody puts your adopt "want to buy" folder or something but, then you'll see they have like 100 sites in this folder not owning one of those characters probably. It's a bit discouraging.
Maybe it's just not my thing, or a thing i'd ever think of doing but it's second time i've heard about this and just feels otherworldly to me that people buy, sell and trade ocs, like i could never they're my bbs 😅😅
I agree with all of those omg, I actually declined some art offers just because I'm 80% sure they won't finish their part. Especially since like you said, it most likely won't sell later. It sucks but if I feel like I still prefer the money instead of Art I'm not taking the offer.
I’ve only done a little trading, (made a few freebies, bought a few with art) mostly through design character four, games. But yowza some of thease people are crazy. Honestly biggest issue I see is people being way way too aggressive with their Warnings/DNI. I get if you don’t want to see certain content, but downright hate speech in that. Even if I don’t overlap at all I kinda wanna steer clear. With my trading/paroozing trade listings I’ve only had one character I could categorize as a “dreamy.” I’ll recheck every so often to see if it’s traded hands/things have changed for offers wanted. But that’s simple enough, I won’t bother them because I wouldn’t want to be bothered really. Honestly didn’t think so many people would offer without it being marked as being open, crazy honestly. Commen sence online is really somthing ain’t it.
when people wait till the oc is up for offer, get it, then just sell it and it is now stuck in the trade market off of one person to another person.. to another one.....
The trading Oc culture or toyhouse culture seems very curious and interesting to me, because I see it that the infantization/adaptation of terms like selling a character from a frachise (but instead of a franchise is just a design that will never get somenthing serious more than a little roleplay or text because doing a series or a comic is somenthing too big for us, the mortal creative ilusional dreamy artist) the trade back characters are basically the case of Benito, the "mascot" of the chocoflakes in Spain, the person buy a licence of use, not the character. And aaaahh~ the naivety of kids and some artist that ignores how a business and economy works. (Literally it´s all about bought cheap and sell expensive, it´s LITERALY the norm on EVERYTHING. Look at grocerys stores for example) so glad that I´ve never meet anyone like that on Toyhouse~
To be fair, in high school I used to have all the white boys on my bus asking if my dad was selling the truck sitting in our front yard when I got dropped off at my house every day LOL
me personally i wouldnt care if some1 put an oc in a dreamie folder / wishlist. 1. they will never get it bc i am never giving my characters up unless made for the purpose 2. i like to see someone has an interest in my designs
I once told someone that they could look in any folders for a character and they send a link to my FURSONA who is in a FOREVER HOMED FOLDER and when I said no they said “well then next time don’t tell me I can look in any folders if you’re just gonna decline” and they got pissed off at me Like??? I said you could look, not that I would accept!
@@Shrimpcheesesandwich I have over 300 characters I can’t think of whether or not I’ll trade oc number 46 for their oc, but my fursona does have not for sale in the tags Additionally, that’s how most character trading works in the spheres im in. You send someone your toyhouse, they look through it, and ask you if the character they picked is okay. I have never joined a circle where it isn’t done that way, so it’s not like I’m the only one doing it. And it’s not like I am angry or anything if people say that they want a character I wouldn’t trade for, I’m just bewildered at the fact that they were rude to me afterwards and acted like I had personally wrong them somehow.
i agree with most of these,i use my characters a lot even if i dont draw them as often and would feel really uncomfortable if someone just offered on one of them randomly 😭 also oh my god the way you did the checkerboard pattern MADE ME REALIZE HOW TO DO IT THANK Y
Honestly yeah! I think some ppl want to still be able to meet artist friends and have their comments open and stuff, though--they just don't want offers But if you don't want to engage with the community at all you really could just go private
@@Qwizz Haha yea! But to be fair there's also an authorize feature where you can just give your friends and personal community access to your content still so like besides the fact it could be tedious to set up depending on how many people you wanna authorize it shouldn't really be that big of a deal imo :D
While I do agree that offering on any and every character who have "for sale" in their bio when it's clearly not for sale is overblown and just... bro read the room I do find it annoying when people do not remove the "for sale" tag that link the character to the TH search sell pool. It's litteraly just some box to check or uncheck in the trade listing, it's not that hard to remove when getting the character. Picture this: you like to look for character for sale you might want, so you go on the browser and check the "for sell" or "for trade" stuff, in hope of finding a shiny new bean, and half of them are not for sale, you come to look for a new character, but every single one you like is in a folder that indicate they are not for sell. Yes they are not for sell so you don't offer, but I do believe it is the duty of the new owner to remove the listing. As someone who used to really enjoy going around looking for new pretty characters, it is one of the things that stops me from doing it again Sometimes I suspect people to put all the tags to increase their's OC visibility, which would be a whole other can of worm like, seriously, as a user of the for sell tag search, please, remove those tags Again, I'm only talking about the trade listing tag that gives the little green icon , not the name, or bio, or stuff like that
Haven’t started the video but one pet peeve I had was went sorting for characters to buy people would lump EVERY trading tag onto there characters/slots/lf things and then the description would be like “only looking for swaps >wo!” OKAY… then why is it in CURRENCY. I’ve stopped doing anything related to the trading and selling adopts community for a few years now, artists kinda hurt my brain, I just do what I want myself at this point
Omg the first point 😭 ? I’m on the other side of it. “Hey I’ll buy this character at the higher price of the extra art” “ok sweet what do you want ^w^!” And it’s been years and they never held up there end of the deal
@@Qwizz That’s great! (Sorry for late reply, I didn’t get the notification) I love motorsport too and your videos are great! Keep doing what you’re doing
The only time I’ve ever not followed through on an art payment, I was 13 and REALLY wanted an Angel themed dog. however, I uh. forgot to finish my last two full bodies for 2 months and they deactivated before I could.
I understand the pet peeves tbh, I problaby overhaul a bit of my TOS myself I knew of someone that has like a dreamies folder and I was like: Ok what does it do? Was never told about it. I got my TH account shoved down my throat because they were like: ok but if you loose your characters thats bad TH bascially helps you to keep things organized and what not. I still got never told how I do things, how I have to resize images (because people make big image file sizes when drawing) I asked multiple times how to do shit, they never bothered to make screenshots where to click and where to go to upload individual images and I had to learn this stuff all on my own, now when I meet people that don´t know TH and do get a code, I at least bother to make screenshots and explain in my own terms on how to do stuff because like I never want others to be treated that they are lost on a site that is geniunely nice and I had figured out that Dreamies are OCs that people wish for and I was like: I would never do such a thing, I put everything in my fave folder because I am geniunely to lazy to make folders, where I have the fear, oh god people would problaby message me if I put them in somekind of favorizing folder. On another sidenote: the person who shoved me a TH Code in my throat was basically guilt tripping me because they got rid of one of their prized OCs, DESPITE ME SAYING NO THANKS I DON`T WANT AN TH ACCOUNT AND I AM NOT INTERESTED so yeah that´s also something in where I was like: People really don´t have to do stuff for me if they are willing to give away an OC they actually like. I never asked them to do that, I never asked them to get me an account and yet I got it. I use it now because I got a different kind of appeal for TH and not for the major downsides such as resizing the file images or having to track the credits (because the person gifted me an OC but as we lost friendship of other reasons and matters, that single OC was basically uncredited even though the name was on the image written, google didn´t spit out an artist, deviantART didn´t spit out an artist and even Twitter didn´t get any results and that was disheartening, it can still happen even if you use TH, they never uploaded this OC on TH because they wanted to clear out the OCs they didn´t want anymore)
Personally I use the family design thing in my tos, at least ones that are based completely and utterly in my designs. If you want to make a design that has similar colors and stuff, cool! I don't really care! But there is a line that consider not really making a sibling , but just copying the designs. [ I should be more specific about this tbh but I haven't gotten to editing my tos ]
Omg ty for making this video I’ve been wondering what was up with dreamies lol And I totally get it! Tho I’ve never had anyone offer on characters outside of my ufo folder but maybe thats just because I’m not that big on the trading side of toyhouse anymore ^^
Honestly, I just use TH to store my characters and their art/info. That way I don't needa use up space on my phone or laptop, and also have them all in one place, rather than scatter them around in my laptop.
with the dreamie/wishlist thing- i didn't know about that until this video (im not super into trading/selling characters n stuff) but actually if i saw one of my characters on something like that i would feel SO fucking icky. i genuinely do not understand how people can have just like...no emotional attachment to their characters, cause my ocs are my BABIES i BIRTHED them yk? well uh. new thing to add to my profile warning ig- i dont want anyone thinking i'm gonna sell what are practically extensions of myself lmao
I've been trying to sell adopts and trading on TH for around 5 years now. And it's community is incredibly hostile, snobbish, and alienating. I fucking hate it.
IMO how I kinda see the dreamie thing is like yeah it is kinda like to keep track of characters u would wanna own but idk im respectful about it and know that this won’t mean ill get said character but its also for characters I feel match my taste and design style idk like i also use it so ppl could get a jist on what i like in characters if they are offering on
i had NO idea the "favorite" slash "Dreamie" folders were a thing.. (new to TH) im very glad i made the personal decision to NOT post my main/all-time favorite characters on there. i figured there was something along this under wraps.
I just bought an adopt thats based off a genshin character and i alrighty got a person asking me if i ever decide to put them up for offers, to ping them 💀like bruh- and im like why dont you make your own?? I don't own the original character . Also i wanted to ask what is your opinion on adopts based off already existing characters? (Not talking about ripoffs of ocs) but like from anime or games.
I dont sell characters like at all but if someone buys my character I don't think it would be fair to not let them change their design at all. I would love to sell characters and designs im just lazy and don't want to bother with that you know
12:35 alot of people just resell the sibling/children of pop-cretors [not that i like it just thats why] What i was originally coming here for, you may talk about it, but i hate people who think they can just revoke the character??????? Like huh??? "Oh you did this thing i dont like the character you payed me for is mine agian and you dont get a refund"????
My two cents on the whole "don't redesign" bit, I remember years ago I did a design trade with someone I was friends with on DeviantArt. I finished the design, they saw it and said it looked good, and I was really proud of myself! Cut to one-two days later, I see they've drawn it, AND IT LITERALLY DID NOT LOOK LIKE THE DESIGN I HAD MADE AT ALL. It wasn't just 'oh they added an accessory or a pattern or changed the eye color' THEY CHANGED THE ENTIRE COLOR PALETTE, MARKINGS, EVEN THE CONCEPT THAT THEY SAID THEY WANTED WHEN THEY TOLD ME THE DESIGN. (they said they wanted a cat with fire on it, so I did that, and the redesign literally didn't even have fire on it) They still credited me in the description so I knew this was somehow meant to be the design I'd made. It made me feel awful that I had made this design for someone that I was really proud of and then they just completely changed it to the point it wasn't even my design anymore. I agree that getting pressed over really small changes is dumb bc it's so trivial, but I don't blame ppl for putting a warning so they don't pull stuff like this.
dreamie and wishlists r so stupid LMFAOOO. agreed with everything in this video as another person in that scene. this community is wack. you have literally all the same opinions as me this is SUCH a good video. literally sighed with relief listening to all of your points. yeah people absolutely should not sell characters if they cannot handle change happening to them. if a seller is going to get upset over a character they designed changing, maybe that seller should not be a seller in the first place. maybe, just MAYBE, if you're feeling possessive over your designs, you need to take a step back and leave the scene for a while. just a thought. also, for buyers, i personally only offer for characters if i REALLY feel a connection. if i'm not chosen, i don't make a fit and i certainly do not attack the buyer. why can't adults just be adults dawg .. buying characters also is not a necessity. people, you CAN design your own characters, you know? selling characters has also felt sort of weird to me because if i'm making a design for ME, it's for ME. i don't want anyone looking at my characters like drooling babies on their tablets. ooo googoo gaga fun character @_o GET OUUUUTTTT. HELP MEEEits so stupid. i've made designs for other people. i don't care about what they do with them, they were designed specifically for someone to take and use. why r we acting all dumb in this scene. reminds me of the closed species community somewhat sideeye
I had people call my fursona/s a dreamie before and to let them know if I ever trade or sell them 😭 Idm most dreamie lists but dont say it to my face lmao
This Is Why I've Always Refused To Trade On Toyhouse Lmao. I Typically Just Do Custom Trades With People (Like Make An Oc Just For Them And Same Them For Me) With Moodboard Inspired Oc Trades. Toyhouse Has Just Really Never Seemed Like A Community Id Want To Do That On ? Idk I Abandoned My Toyhouse Before I Really Got Super Into The Community Anyway (I Learned About Unvale And Much Preferred It Immediately) But Most Stuff I See About Trading Culture There Seems Pretty Negative, Plus The Way They Do Trades Is Typically Non Customs/Pre-Existing Ocs. But Yeah, On A More Positive Note About Trading My Favorite Community To Trade In Has Been Artfight, Tons Of The People There Are Great !! Sorry If This Reads As Very Ramble-y I'm Bad About That Lmao (Unmedicated Adhd Problems) But I Agree With You
I think it’s interesting with the offering point bc I literally have the opposite problem I’ve never ran across ppl offering on off limit stuff bc no one ever offers on my stuff 😭
I don't know if you'll respond, but I do wanna shoot my shot- I got a character on TH for free recently and I ADORE their design! But I'm having trouble seeing it as "mine". For me, part of ownership is your mark on it, aka having designed it for example. But, y'know, I didn't. I wanna love them and draw them as much as one of my more beloved OCs, because I am totally head-over-heels with their cute design, but I view them more as.. like.. a circus animal- that I lovingly stare at from afar.. XD I know technically it's mine, but it doesn't FEEL like mine. I don't wanna give up and say "Eh, I guess adopts just aren't for me. Lemme go back to making shitty character designs and not getting attached to any of them!" Ya feel? I wanna genuinely love this character the same way my own OC would, instead of this weird disconnect between me and it, just because someone else designed them. Was this ever a problem for you? If so, how'd you get over it? If not, HOW...
Honestly, I would love to put some of my character designs up on toyhouse. I design tons of characters for fun that I never actually use for anything, and would be more than happy to trade/sell them to someone else. But some of the things listed in this video and mentioned in the comments (especially about how people behave towards each other) make me hesitate to try it out. If possible, could someone tell me what the moderation/reporting and blocking system is like on toyhouse? Before I do test the waters, it would be nice to know if I can protect myself should anyone start acting hostile towards me, steal my art, etc. Right now, that’s the main “make or break” concern I have about the site.
You are able to block people(including IP) so that they can't see anything from you I believe. I've randomly been IP blocked and I haven't been able to see anything of the other person on all three of my accounts. As for stealing art, you can watermark each piece you post heavily! I would also recommend just using a watermark/signature that is your account name on top of the toyhouse watermarks too. I haven't had to really interact with any admin/mods about anyone else so I wouldn't know much about that. ^^
I’m trying to join to store my ocs but… I’m scared of this stuff. Still, I’d like to join anyway to get inspiration and keep track of stuff. Invite codes and people waiting hungrily for me to decide I don’t want an oc anymore are my biggest obstacles rn. 😂 (once got yelled at for adopting a character design lol…) Edit: i got in and nothing really has happened yet :)
I love my oc on th like one of my favorite characters at the moment came from th but my god does it bother me how they do stuff over there 😭 some people are just so attached and etc and won’t let go unless u drop 600 And Yk loving a character isn’t bad but I have seen people not accept decent offers unless it’s a lot of
I feel like people should be allowed to charge however much they want money-wise for a character design they’re selling regardless of what the buyer thinks. Because it’s on the Artist to decide that value alone at the end of the day, and if they believe the money is worth more than the design, they will sell it. Does it suck for the consumer? Yes… But I also do think it’s an artist’s responsibility to not sell a character at all if they are also too attached. Because nobody deserves to be helicoptered over for a design they bought.
I just realized I forgot to feature fanart on the endcard!! I'm so sorryyy don't worry if you sent some ill still feature it next time
Was so excited to post after so long I forgot and rushed straight to uploading 😅
Generally I wish people would response with something like “sorry, they are actually not for offers!” instead of berating them
people are way too comfortable going ballistic over the simplest things honestly. if i'm really THAT annoyed with someone i'll def be kinda dry/have a little bit of an attitude ("nty i'm not accepting offers") but i genuinely don't understand why people have to yell at each other / act like they've been brutally injured bc of something that simple
like honestly, i have an issue with my temper acting up too quickly, but that's why, if i can tell i'm about to get upset, i would rather just not reply at all. most people will understand that NO response, IS a response. and if they reply again i'm probably relaxed by then and can reply kindly. and a lot of people breaking boundaries like that probably aren't thinking too far into it and will forget about it if they dont get a notification. wish people thought about that more. just don't respond at that point if you're going to tell someone to kts
@@Qwizz yeah it’s honestly unreal to me how people have no self control on this app, like people need to realize if someone offered on a character, they probably didn’t know or don’t mean anything bad. Once I asked for pings on a character where i did not see anywhere on the profile to not ask for them, and then the person preceded to IP block me, block me on all socials, write me an extremely rude message, and then when they realized we shared a discord server, harassed me there too and tried to make me out to be the bad person in front of everyone, and this person was a 20 year old adult 😭 actually wild to me how people can act over pixels on a screen
ehh. the tag stuff always felt light hearted, but thats probably just me
ive actually never felt like these were made to be aggresive lmao, ive always taken these as silly over exaggerations
I got paragraphs for saving someone’s art to an inspiration folder (i saved it because i liked their lineart brush)
the labeling of designs as LQ MQ HQ [low quality, mid quality, high quality] is super rude and unnecessary. i've seen people say they refuse to trade for a design cus its lq and its just like-- just say no thank you?? no need to go insulting that artist omg O_O
Fr, like calling someone else's art not "quality" is basically like saying their art isn't good enough. In my opinion all art is top quality because they spent time on it! ❤️ the only time the word quality applies to art is if an image gets compressed and becomes more pixelated and someone wants to see the original file or whatever lol
what would even count as a "low quality" design to these people. is it not subjective?? especially in this context😭
Not defending it,
infact rlly dont like the process
I always found it so strange, but in my experiece it always felt like it wasnt about art quality, and more about like 'percieved time' if that makes sense.
Ive seen gorgeous art on a profile for sale labled LQ but art of similar quality but higher quantity + small bits of lore count as HQ.
I guess the idea being your getting more effort into a single concept than just a png.
But thats just my experience, and i feel we have a better way to show that than what feels like an insult to someone's efforts-
15:56 "Not everyone wants to sell their characters." As someone who uses TH for ONLYING storing my characters and maybe adding info I agreed.
Yeahh I've seen some people like you around where they use toyhouse for character storage and not for trading and I can see how it would be super annoying if someone starts posting random offers on ur ocs in that case
There is a setting for people like you, don't remember the name,
I mainly use mine for character storage but I have a dedicated and clearly labelled 'Adopts' section and thankfully between that and my profile stating 'other than characters residing in the 'adopts' folder none of my characters will ever be up for sale so please don't ask' I've never had anyone making offers for anything that wasn't already up for sale in the first place.
But I don't understand the concept of pre-designing bulk look-alike characters and then selling them (character designing is really personal for me, so the art trade community is just a bit confusing!)
It seems like a lot of fun but it's something I can't wrap my head around, so I don't do it ^^" and I hope all the warnings I've put on my page are enough lol
@@chen9833 "settings--visibble to--- only me
Toyhouse is very confortable to me for organice the characters from my grafic novel on a very intuitive way so I don´t have to put them on google documents or somenthing, so of course ALL OF THEM are hiden for evade people who think they are toys xd
Something that annoys me is that SO many people think they own a colour palette?? I completely understand not wanting people to copy your characters, but colour picking your characters colours is not copying. You can't claim a colour palette as your own!!!
I feel like you’ve talked about it before but god I hate those super gatekeepy artists who have those rules like
No color picking, no inspiration, etc etc.
In cases like that it’s basically impossible not to “rip them off” since unless you make it super complex they’ll typically cry theft and blast you-
Most certainly nuance! This is pretty complex to begin with, but hopefully I’m coming across somewhat clear. Definitely against intended theft, if that wasn’t obvious lol.
@@died897but.. that example’s not color theft, that’s just theft 😅
Just because someone else might have more use that doesnt mean you have to sell something you dont want to
Couldn't have worded it better. You should never have to justify your right to own something cosmetic and fun like a character
thats literally all my characters atp too lol. most arent up for sale at all but i still have them on my TH and im not accepting offers for them.
Really wish the art community in general could be kinder to each other right now.
dude literally, it’s so disheartening to read that someone considers your design/art “low quality”
my "dreamies" folder is just titled "characters", i use it as a "yooo this character is so cool........ fav" folder rather than a shopping list. if a character in my "characters" folder is up for sale, cool. im not foaming at the mouth and shelling out all my money immediately.
For me I’ll save characters I like to my assorted folders but if I really like them I’ll leave them unsorted so it’s easier to see if they become ufo or are still open to being adopted! I’ve been trying not to be an impulse spender so I leave them there and check up like once a day and decide if it’s really worth buying them because I usually cannot responsibly afford them 😭
never been uncomfortable with pings or dreamie folders since im a fairly confident and understanding person. however offering on characters that have not been explicitly stated as you can offer or ask to offer is CRAZY (like sometimes ill see a folder say offers okay and ill ask if i can offer on a character in that folder, but never just upfront offering on a character that has nothing like 'offers okay' or 'ask to offer' in the character bio, or folder bio!?!?!?)
honestly plan to update my dreamie folder since honestly i just through the most random designs in there i think are pretty and dont really plan on offering if they are ufo ever.

Very much agree with the dreamie/wishlist thing,,
I don't like them exactly for the reason you brought up, I don't like my account(s) being treated as shoping lists. To the point Ill check where favorited characters were put, and delete the favorite if needed. Its just very off putting for me to SEE someone keep an eye on my ocs for the sol reason that they want to own them.
THE RETURN OF THE KING
my BIGGEST PET PEEVE EVER is super long public blacklists accusing literal children of heinous crimes wit zero evidence. im sorry but slapping "dont harass anybody" at the end will NOT stop ANYTHING 🪦
people doing that is lawsuit territory because of how it could mess up income streams, but apparently people’s right to ‘feel safe on the internet’ [used to mean slandering people they find annoying with no consequences] is more important
It's a bit crazy out here.
i mainly use my TH for oc storage and organisation, but i do like to adopt character designs, though i don't interact much with the community and only offer on characters once the seller's profile passes my vibe check. i also don't usually resell characters after i acquire them. i don't usually do impulse character purchases, if i buy something it usually means i'm already attached to it. and i usually find these characters via people i already know, or via responsibly moderated discord servers. so i don't have much reason to put myself out there on the toyhouse forums or whatnot. i keep to my own little corner populated by my friends and mutuals, and for the most part i haven't really had anyone bother me by offering on my ocs. this one kid politely asked if my oc was EO and when i responded no they respected that so i wasn't uncomfortable. i've had people add my ocs to fave folders but i've never seen them be put into a dreamie folder so idk how that feels firsthand, though i know it wouldn't make me uncomfy enough to block someone from that alone. my fave folders are like: "your character is cool" - what it says on the tin with no extra implications, i like the character but have no intention of owning them, and i have tiers within that folder for the ones i like even more, "your character is awesome", "your character is epic", and "your character is the best" that last one usually being reserved for my friends' ocs who i'm attached to in a similar way to how i'm attached to my friend. then i have a kinda?? dreamie folder but it's called "adoptables i kinda like" a title which intends to convey that 1. i only add ocs to it that were marked up for offers at the time of me faving, and 2. it's not a shopping list, it's literally just "i like this design that happens to be for sale and i may or may not consider trading for it".
something i hate about toyhouse culture tho, is the hatred for "hoarding". like some kid will see a person with more than 30 characters on their account and throw a fit, meanwhile my 27 year old self has been coming up with original stories since i was a literal toddler, each having a wide cast of characters, each of whom i love dearly and want to keep and have organised on the silly website, and I have started adopting other people's designs to add to my vast interconnected oc multiverse lore that I add to all the time, sitting here with my 500+ ocs: [sweats nervously even though i know i'm perfectly valid in having all those characters for worldbuilding reasons and i don't have to justify myself to anyone but im scared of the unhinged internet children who were never taught respect and manners]
speaking of that.... gosh your brief comment about changing the terms of trade retroactively hit like a brick, you don't even know how significant that is. my best friend who owned a few designs by this one guy and was very attached to them, cut the guy off because he was toxic af, like no matter how toxic of a person you imagine when i say that, i can guarantee you he was worse. the toxic guy then kicked up a fuss because my friend had blocked him and thus didn't allow him access to see the profiles of his designs, proceeded to block evade all over the place, spread lies about my friend, and retroactively changed his tos to say that if you block him he has the right to revoke the designs. like buddy no thats not how legal contracts work you absolute child. bro really tried to steal back the character several times while sending so many death threats and inappropriate nsfw comments and commissioned p**n of the character (a feral animal whose rightful owner is sex repulsed ace btw) and he got banned from the entire toyhouse like 67 billion times and kept ban evading and then crying about getting banned and then in the same message telling the toyhouse admin and my friend to kts 😭 the funniest part is how this dude is comically bad at laying low, like he got a new account and started reuploading his characters to it and then crediting the oldass art i drew for him to my main account as if i wouldn't see it immediately and tell my friend what account to block XD none of this is exaggeration btw (except for "67 billion" obviously) there are unironically people like this in the world and on the internet and i fear.
re the note at 11:42 i actually used to know a guy who did exactly that. my friend made a character who was a grey cat with green accents but later sold them, and the ex-friend who bought them made them completely green and not even close to the same shade of green. and guess what, this was the same guy i complained about in the previous paragraph LOL. also i know someone who bought a light grey and yellow character and redesigned them to be dark purple with rainbow accents im not even exaggerating. you wouldn't be able to tell it was meant to be the same character if shown the images side by side without the toyhouse profile context.
god i wish i could pin this vid to my toyhouse profile 😭 i've been on there since 2016 and it genuinely feels like the community has only gotten worse since then. all the problems you mentioned and the general disregard for profile warnings (hello?? they're here for a reason!!!) has made toyhouse such an... uncomfortable environment when interacting with it's community. i've had to explicitly state on my main account that no one is for sale and then make a sales/trade account for the offers on my characters to finally stop. and, as much as i hate to say it, turning maturity block on has also helped a LOT in keeping my profile as a nice, safe space for me to host my characters. i understand that children don't necessarily know how the community works but i genuinely wish some of them would *try* to learn before jumping right into it and wreaking havoc
i think another massive issue with toyhouse is it's management, though this is more like an open secret than anything. the site being in closed beta since 2015 (roughly. i don't remember the exact year) already says a lot about it's staff and development team (if there is any!). thankfully the communication between the site owner has increased a little this past year, but still. i know they can't manage the community side all too much for obvious reasons, but they could definitely do better on the character trading side. (ex. well known design stealers still being active and reuploading stolen designs multiple times with the site taking zero action, people "taking back" a design because they don't like how the new owner is using it, etc)
but, yeah! it was really refreshing to see someone talk about this publicly (and not in the depths of toyhouse's forums 💀) and i can't help but agree on all the points you made! not sure if you're gonna touch the subject again in the future, but if you do, i'll be looking forward to it :3
Was halfway through a comment about how my approach to wishlist characters was just to call the folder "cool characters" and then you say to do effectively that lmao.
I appreciate designers who state that backing out of a bid or ghosting will result in a blacklist or warning. I used to think it was a bit extreme but you're right! It's a whole paycheck for them! Unless you back out for something urgent of course
wanted to comment on the dreamie folder bit, i like the idea of renaming the folder with like a heart emoji or smth i actually might do that lol
but i also have rule for myself about that too, i only put characters in that folder if i KNOW they are apart of a purge/sales account cause i know people are uncomfortable with the idea
i totally get that, i dont think i would mind people putting my characters in a dreamie folder personally (good luck trying to get them lol) but i can totally see how it would make someone uncomfortable too
i also think that if people are thinking of selling and rehoming characters to maybe think of getting a sales account? thats what i did so i dont have to deal with people trying to offer on a main character on a story like no omg
obv this isnt a need but i think it be a good alternative! idk i know everyone doesnt want to deal with managing 2 account tho lol
This character is like the main one on my channel, where did you ever get the idea they were ever for offer?? x.x
I joined toyhouse like a few months ago and one of my biggest fears is someone trying to get one of my characters, as I said in my bio that all my characters are forever homed and not for trade
I do occasionally do trades for characters that I can look at and be like “OH MY GOD I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I CAN DO WITH THAT CHARACTER” or just that I like super duper loved the design on, cause I like getting characters (despite the fact I had 500+ before joining toyhouse..)
So I have a few characters that I didn’t make, but like I have a reason for it and it’s cause I’ve made SO MANY before joining toyhouse that I’m running out of design ideas
I’m worriedly awaiting the day I get called a character hoarder…..
i have a dreamies folder but it’s more of like a “if offering premade characters these are the types of designs i think are cool!” so they have an idea of what i like
ALSO I make sure to check people’s warnings, the characters bio, and the characters tags before adding them to that kind of folder. If they prefer I didn’t I won’t add them! Simple
The plus of being not adapted and not socialised on many platforms is not to have to deal with all this shit 👍👍
BABE WAKE UP QWIZZ POSTED!!
i have this one character where two people commented asking about the availability of him, the first asking to make an offer and the second asking to be pinged for if he does go up for offer. my profile warning at the time said to not make offers on my characters unless stated otherwise and there was nothing on the character's page that said that he would be up for offer at all. im not even that huge in the trading scene either. im having so much fun here [sarcastic]
There was a character that was put up for sale, but the current owner wouldn’t give a minimum they wanted for it. Convo went like this (between them and another user):
User: 10 usd
Owner: refusal
User: how much are you looking for
Owner: There is no specific amount that I am looking for, I can just say that $10 is not enough for me
User: I can do 20
Owner: still not enough
Like, just give a damn price quit being like this..
i dont use TH that much but am thinking of updating my characters profiles sometime over the summer. the first thing i did was adding a "please do not offer on my characters" blurb on my profile because all this trading culture seems like. a Lot to deal with, honestly. i already struggle coming up with a few ocs every year and get attached really hard, so the idea of trading them away to a stranger is not my jam.
i hope everyone in the comments actually into trading has a good trade summer where people are decent to each other!
I was thinking about getting into toy house but recently I’ve been hearing so many negative things about it I don’t even wanna try anymore 😭
I almost feel like it's not hard to understand why someone would be uncomfortable with either of those things but here we are. 😕
edit: but for the record i don't ever sell supernatural characters, and all of them are usually very fluffy and wholesome so that makes it all the more weird.
Honestly I love when my OC’s get added to ‘Dreamies’ folders, it makes me happy that others enjoy my characters!
If someone added my fursonas to a wishlist id be really uncomfortable. I see them as a really personal thing and I would be kinda upset
I was told once that my art sucked and that it’s only worth $5 or less instead of the $20 I was selling all because I’m not a popular artist??
I think people are gonna say mean things like that on EVERY social media platform tbh.
Agreed on the DNI thing. If the person is so full of hate for total strangers, I don't even want to see what would happen if things got personal
when people wait till the oc is up for offer, get it, then just sell it and it is now stuck in the trade market off of one person to another person.. to another one.....
The trading Oc culture or toyhouse culture seems very curious and interesting to me, because I see it that the infantization/adaptation of terms like selling a character from a frachise (but instead of a franchise is just a design that will never get somenthing serious more than a little roleplay or text because doing a series or a comic is somenthing too big for us, the mortal creative ilusional dreamy artist)
the trade back characters are basically the case of Benito, the "mascot" of the chocoflakes in Spain, the person buy a licence of use, not the character.
And aaaahh~ the naivety of kids and some artist that ignores how a business and economy works. (Literally it´s all about bought cheap and sell expensive, it´s LITERALY the norm on EVERYTHING. Look at grocerys stores for example)
so glad that I´ve never meet anyone like that on Toyhouse~
To be fair, in high school I used to have all the white boys on my bus asking if my dad was selling the truck sitting in our front yard when I got dropped off at my house every day LOL
me personally i wouldnt care if some1 put an oc in a dreamie folder / wishlist. 1. they will never get it bc i am never giving my characters up unless made for the purpose 2. i like to see someone has an interest in my designs
I once told someone that they could look in any folders for a character and they send a link to my FURSONA who is in a FOREVER HOMED FOLDER and when I said no they said “well then next time don’t tell me I can look in any folders if you’re just gonna decline” and they got pissed off at me
Like??? I said you could look, not that I would accept!
i do think thats a little on you dawg… if you have off limits characters, say that. these things arent always obvious.
@@Shrimpcheesesandwich I have over 300 characters I can’t think of whether or not I’ll trade oc number 46 for their oc, but my fursona does have not for sale in the tags
Additionally, that’s how most character trading works in the spheres im in. You send someone your toyhouse, they look through it, and ask you if the character they picked is okay. I have never joined a circle where it isn’t done that way, so it’s not like I’m the only one doing it. And it’s not like I am angry or anything if people say that they want a character I wouldn’t trade for, I’m just bewildered at the fact that they were rude to me afterwards and acted like I had personally wrong them somehow.
i agree with most of these,i use my characters a lot even if i dont draw them as often and would feel really uncomfortable if someone just offered on one of them randomly 😭
also oh my god the way you did the checkerboard pattern MADE ME REALIZE HOW TO DO IT THANK Y
some people dreamie or ask about owning ocs that people aren't selling or giving away. like story ones for example
babe wake up new qwizz video just dropped
YAY U POSTED !!!
A few problems I'm seeing in the comments can easily be solved by just making your Toyhouse private XD
Honestly yeah! I think some ppl want to still be able to meet artist friends and have their comments open and stuff, though--they just don't want offers
But if you don't want to engage with the community at all you really could just go private
@@Qwizz Haha yea! But to be fair there's also an authorize feature where you can just give your friends and personal community access to your content still so like besides the fact it could be tedious to set up depending on how many people you wanna authorize it shouldn't really be that big of a deal imo :D
Agreed, I prefer to be more locked down anyways.
While I do agree that offering on any and every character who have "for sale" in their bio when it's clearly not for sale is overblown and just... bro read the room
I do find it annoying when people do not remove the "for sale" tag that link the character to the TH search sell pool.
As someone who used to really enjoy going around looking for new pretty characters, it is one of the things that stops me from doing it again
Sometimes I suspect people to put all the tags to increase their's OC visibility, which would be a whole other can of worm
like, seriously, as a user of the for sell tag search,
please, remove those tags
Again, I'm only talking about the trade listing tag that gives the little green icon , not the name, or bio, or stuff like that
Haven’t started the video but one pet peeve I had was went sorting for characters to buy people would lump EVERY trading tag onto there characters/slots/lf things and then the description would be like “only looking for swaps >wo!” OKAY… then why is it in CURRENCY.
I had no idea you were an F1 (and Ferrari) fan! I mean everyone is a Ferrari fan but oh my god this made my day
HIII even if they say they're not, they are Ferrari fan ^-^
I love motorsports!!
hi ari i didnt know you watched this xd (its me cheese :3)
@@Qwizz That’s great! (Sorry for late reply, I didn’t get the notification) I love motorsport too and your videos are great! Keep doing what you’re doing
@@kai-cheesecatt hi lol
The only time I’ve ever not followed through on an art payment, I was 13 and REALLY wanted an Angel themed dog. however, I uh. forgot to finish my last two full bodies for 2 months and they deactivated before I could.
Anyways I have this dog now and I just remembered I should probably take him out of my pending folder. I don’t even trade characters anymore
It’s great to see you return, since you uploaded a new video. Welcome back, by the way. ❤
I understand the pet peeves tbh, I problaby overhaul a bit of my TOS myself
I knew of someone that has like a dreamies folder and I was like: Ok what does it do?
YOU'RE BACK!!!!! YAY!!!!!!! Love the new character!!!!!!!!! :DDDD [even though it's been around for a good second I just thought I'd say UDBEJDJDJS]
Omg ty for making this video I’ve been wondering what was up with dreamies lol
And I totally get it!
I am so glad I found your channel again, my parents don’t like furrys and unsubscribed me from your channel a while back 🥲
I've been trying to sell adopts and trading on TH for around 5 years now. And it's community is incredibly hostile, snobbish, and alienating. I fucking hate it.
IMO how I kinda see the dreamie thing is like yeah it is kinda like to keep track of characters u would wanna own but idk im respectful about it and know that this won’t mean ill get said character but its also for characters I feel match my taste and design style idk like i also use it so ppl could get a jist on what i like in characters if they are offering on
Ye same!
i had NO idea the "favorite" slash "Dreamie" folders were a thing..
I would love to sell characters and designs im just lazy and don't want to bother with that you know
Meanwhile, a random Dragon Cave forum person who did a drawing for me less than 24 hours after I requested it:
WOOOO QWIZZERS VIDEOOOOO
Character trading and TH stuff niches of the internet I'm interested in that rarely get talk abt so thanks for making these videos!
12:35 alot of people just resell the sibling/children of pop-cretors [not that i like it just thats why]
What i was originally coming here for, you may talk about it, but i hate people who think they can just revoke the character???????
Hello! I remember that you said in some video that you have ToyHouse invates? Do you still have them? Atleat one? Please??
I had people call my fursona/s a dreamie before and to let them know if I ever trade or sell them 😭
Idm most dreamie lists but dont say it to my face lmao
"literal teenagers" as if they're mature at all lmao
Sorry If This Reads As Very Ramble-y I'm Bad About That Lmao (Unmedicated Adhd Problems) But I Agree With You
YAYYY U FINALLY POSTED!!!
I think it’s interesting with the offering point bc I literally have the opposite problem I’ve never ran across ppl offering on off limit stuff bc no one ever offers on my stuff 😭
Ngl I thought Dreamies meant "wish I could adopt this character thats OTA/for sale but I can't"
there is one moderator.
I’m trying to join to store my ocs but… I’m scared of this stuff. Still, I’d like to join anyway to get inspiration and keep track of stuff. Invite codes and people waiting hungrily for me to decide I don’t want an oc anymore are my biggest obstacles rn. 😂 (once got yelled at for adopting a character design lol…)
Edit: i got in and nothing really has happened yet :)
My main sona is a dreamie to a couple of my friends, but they know good and well that I’ll never sell them. She’s me.
I love my oc on th like one of my favorite characters at the moment came from th but my god does it bother me how they do stuff over there 😭 some people are just so attached and etc and won’t let go unless u drop 600
And Yk loving a character isn’t bad but I have seen people not accept decent offers unless it’s a lot of
I feel like people should be allowed to charge however much they want money-wise for a character design they’re selling regardless of what the buyer thinks. Because it’s on the Artist to decide that value alone at the end of the day, and if they believe the money is worth more than the design, they will sell it.
Does it suck for the consumer? Yes…
But I also do think it’s an artist’s responsibility to not sell a character at all if they are also too attached. Because nobody deserves to be helicoptered over for a design they bought.
@@thelingeringartist you worded it better lmao I get whatcha mean

What program do you use for art in this video?

I have one if you need it.

I LOVE TOYHOUSE
So same. Literally the only social I use besides UA-cam ofc.
whatever happened to just making characters to use for stories 😂
to be fair, from what I know, the majority of these ''characters'' are designs/neutral
people just got used to call character designs ''charcters''
What program/app do you draw in?
If you’re asking about the program used in this video, this is Procreate
