Not crazy about Radios that have a specialty battery , that you can't replace in an emergency....
AAA batteries are the way to go.
I was 🤔 wondering
Glad you got analog controlled radios in there. That's my pick. Thanks.
thanks for your comment!
Thank You!
You described the Midland ER310 as using a proprietary rechargeable battery but in fact a standard 18650 battery will work just fine.
Good to know! Thank you for that important information!👍
FYI you can pick up 18650s at most battery stores and vape shops. Samsung/Panasonic are the best but if they're not available just buy the highest Ah value you can afford.
I dunno the majority if not all solar power and hand crank radios either don't work or take many days to fully charge. With today's technology there's no reason for such failures in an emergency situation. People are relying on reliability and all those being introduced fail in my books. We've heard many sellers talk them up but when people buy them they end up disappointed in their performance.
And what do you recommend?
I purchased this a number of years ago. Worked great Except the green enclosure started to have some kind of chemical reaction, making the entire enclosure soft and Sticky. Hopefully they made this correction.
thanks!
Does the Midland ER210 indeed have a more sturdy and durable hand crank system than the Midland ER310?
Cheers for the review. If war ever breaks out the electricity grid will be the first thing targeted.
NiMH is pronounced "Nickel Metal Hydride"
L.E.D. is pronounced "L-E-D."
N.O.A.A. is actually the NWS, or National Weather Service.
S/W is a must
when the SHTF, you will want a good AM and FM receive but also a good SW receiver. Not much talk about SW.
As a prepper I 100% agree its almost better to have a world band radio then an emergency one
Fun fact: In Europe countries have stopped sending in the AM band and are going to deprecate FM, too. Therefore I would not buy any emergency radio without DAB+ in Europe.
Thank u what is dab plus?
DAB?
Is that Dumb Asss Band?
In The Netherlands the FM licenses just got extended and the FM band is full. Will take many many years before there are less FM stations I guess
I’ve been searching for a new emergency radio, though my main concern is finding one that the main rechargeable battery is replaceable, in the event that over the years the battery loses its ability to hold a decent charge. All of them I’ve seen feature batteries that are hardwired into the radio so they can’t be easily replaced
That yellow fr200 made by grundig or eaton has a replaceable batrery, similar to a cordless phone battery and can be bought where those are sold (batteroes plus) it has a little plug to disconnect it. I like that radio alot, it doesnt have noaa weather alert so need another radio to serve that function but in an extended power outtage being able to crank the handle for power is nice. I like the ones that serve as a power bank, can be charged up by usb, used as a power bank, have am/fm radio and weather alerts and can be cranked to charge them and other devices. Those are really versatile and having a power bank is great for everyday use, and in a short term power outtage would be great, still has the crank handle for extended power outtages.
Consider the new CCrane Solar Windup Radio. AM/FM/NOAA, 3400mAh replaceable Li-ion (18650) battery or 3 AA batteries. Digital tuning with memory.
Thanks for your comment!
The baygen freeplay radio was the best you could buy. By far. They were discontinued for some reason. Have mine going on 12yrs yrs. Still winds up and plays great. Flashlight still in working order. I don't believe anyone makes a spring generator radio.
Thank you for sharing!
@DisgruntledVeteran Thanks going to look into that. I'm assuming it doesn't wind a spring though.
@DisgruntledVeteranwhere do I get the best cheapest one?
The latest CC Crane emergency radio is by far the class leader. The build quality is second to none and the tone and quality from the small speaker is just amazing. In my area there is no need to expand the antenna to receive FM/NOAA, no other radio I've used exhibits this sensitivity.
Thanks for sharing
What is the model number of this CC Crane Radio plaeas......
@@moviemagg Item#: CCRS
@@amham48 Do you know how it compares to the Sangean MMR88? They look quite similar. I have the Sangean and it is the best small emergency radio I have, but I don't have a CCRS to compare it to. I would like a larger base station type emergency radio (something larger than pocket size), if you know of a good one.
@@TheDarkSkorpion Sorry, unfamiliar with that radio.
The voyager.
I'd like to know if any of these radios rechargeable batteries are replaceable or proprietary.
Midland rechargeable is replaceable.
Are all of these radios safe from EMF pulse?
If you are buying one for SHTF, put it in a used and unplug microwave oven. You can store most of your electronics and batteries in there.
@@LarryDickman1 hmmm, a small faraday cage, thank-you!
@@backfreedom8232 You are welcome.
1:49 Can you recommend an emergency radio that'll fully charge your phone? Or are there none? Thanks,
Unfortunately most emergency radios if not all are not able to fully charge a phone
@@WhollyOutdoor That's what I thought. Thanks.
Buy a small fold up portable solar panel. No sense wasting good sun light on a dinky sized solar panel on the radio.
the best radio would be a radio that receives almost anything that limits you to 3rd gen Digital Scanner radios only
The problem with this emergency radio flash light with hand crank is the build in battery, much battery if detachable battery 18650 for easy replacement for battery much higher capacity. The more battery slot the more reliable for emergency long lasting usage
What?! Where are the CC Radio Solar, the Kaito KA368, Midland HH54? Or even the Kaito Voyager V2 or Sangean MMR-88?
The intent of this video was good in trying to inform potential buyers on what to buy, but the selection needs upgrading. Also, maybe some pauses while talking. It feels like I am reading a run on sentence.
Todderbert makes some great radio reviews on radios he owns. He unboxes them, shows you the settings, and shows you how well it scans stations. Not this collection of images for a video review.
Who put this list together? The most recent iteration of the C.Crane solar powered emergency radio blows all of these radios away. They're not even in the same class. It's like comparing Volkswagen to BMW.
If it is reliable as a BMW then is sheet.
BMW
big money waster.
Imagine if the Eaton Sidekick had the Photo Voltaic elements on the huge space of the backside instead of this stupid Ambience light... More space for a bigger Solar panel would make charging sooo much faster and more efficient. Instead they could have added the light on the upper side of the handle and make it flip out. It's a shame they waste such an interesting design as i really like general shape and design of it.
Looks cool but I have to pull out the manual every time I need to do something. Want to set the time? Press the tiny menu button, scroll through the options to "set time" using the tuning wheel, select option using the "Weatherband Alert" button...
If you are going to use it all the time, I guess it wouldn't be too hard to remember. If you are only going to pull it out once a year or so in a power outage or camping trip, keep the manual handy.
I'm curious as to how reviewers (attempt at not singling you out, as there are many similar videos extolling virtues of these radios) rate the products.
I have been caught out on other products sales hyperbole over the years & these days first look at the Amazon negative reviews as a cautionary heads up as to the can of worms I am considering. I have looked at all of these & worryingly as the leaders in the field, they have all received significant amounts of bad reviews - all sold as emergency backups & buyers won't know until an emergency how far up 5h1t creek they might be. To be fair, I suspect this is down to manufacturing & quality control issues, hence buyers get a Schrodinger's cat scenario where until an emergency, they won't know how good or bad their purchase is...
You do realize you can "pretend the powers out" to test these AT ANY TIME, don't you? Would be beyond stupid to buy something and wait and "hope it works" when you need it the most. Test test test emergency gear and have a backup. 1 is none, 2 is 1. BE PREPARED.
& yet I think that's what many people do.... so busy building up their preps, they don't make time to learn to use them - or scope out if they need to find a replacement.... @@Bootyhunter1971
How did you get Alex Jones to narrate this video?
hahaha!
Ok so any radio that doesn't include short wave stuff is not useful. Only one of these did . So a video of junk.
I will stick to my old FR 250.
Probably for you its junk. what brand its that fr 250?
@@stormk-1130 there is no date on my radio. i got it from my farther in law. so very old
A real person would say Miliamp hours and MAH, or say L E D and not Lead. I look for reviews that are genuine and not fake and lazy. Never again for this channel.
I had the scorpion 2. Do not buy this radio. The crank broke and it's definitely not waterproof.
You have a voice for print.
thank you, haha
They are all utter shit, I have gone for a good radio with shortwawe SSB and a USB rechargable 18650 battery and a separate solar panel, and enough powerbanks to last med forever without sun if needed.
OTOH, I have plenty of radios too, so I have started to give away the crappy survival radios to people who won't buy one.
Thanks for sharing, but which models are the best in your opinion?
