Oh my God at about one minute into this video, you can see the velocity of the water coming into their town. It is mine blowing. I have seen a lot of videos having to do with Japan’s Tsunami of 2011 and it never ceases to amaze me, the amount of devastation and destruction.
It's heartbreaking to watch, when you see people still down on the streets as the water comes, they don't realise the magnitude of what is about to come and how fast it will grow, you know that many of these people would not have made it to high ground 😔🙏

Despite the tragedy of the whole matter, Japan also seems to have had a bit of luck: namely that most of the coast that was hit by the tsunami seems to be quite hilly. I.e., there were plenty of high places to flee to just a few hundred yards away in most videos I've seen. If that hadn't been the case, I'm guessing there would have been a lot more fatalities.
It's amazing and scary to see how close some of these people were to being killed - the driver of the car at 1:26 that actually drives through the water, and the four people who come out of the building on the right, and who initially just look at the oncoming wave without any sense of urgency. They had just seconds to get away to safety.
They ignored the warning of a huge Tsunami, they feld safe because of the protection wall..............................,., for many it was a fatale mistake.............................
@@cjb8010 I think the sirens sounded in loops(in intervals) with pauses in between, hence the sirens sound didn't make it into every video. It can be counter-productive if sirens sound continuously for more than few minutes, because it gets distracting.

that's how I felt - as interesting these videos are on a scientific basis - it's horrifying seeing people die and lose their entire community - how the hell can you "like" that?
I think youtube should start to give us more options than like and dislike, especially if the video shows bad things occuring-like natural disaster. I think many people apreciate that this video for its education value, because it shows how quickly tsunami can move, but on other hand none of us apreciate that this destruction and suffering happened. So it would be great if there was more options.
I hope the three people that ran out into the street at 6,09 managed to get to safety , I think this video is one of the most terrifying I’ve seen it shows just how rapidly this tsunami was flooding the towns along the coast
In one video I saw, the water went from about ankle high to single storey building roof height within seconds! Anyone caught below the height of 10 foot were under freezing cold, fast flowing water and debris. In homes, workplaces, shops and vehicles, and on the streets, people drowned in the tens of thousands, (10,000 dead within minutes in just one coastal community, which was literally wiped off the map, never to be rebuilt).
If you put description of video to google translate it says that 'The clerk who came out of the shop climbed the stairs of the cliff below and was safe.' I think they mean 4 people who came out of shop in 1:37. By 2:02 that square area started to flood rapidly and by 2:10 it was flooded. They had c.30 seconds to escape to nearby hill. With steps being so close, they made it. In 1:27 red car drove through water and we don't see it anymore. And earlier motorbiker and two people from 0:42 we also don't see them anymore, but at 5:51 we see that there is road leading up to higher ground. People from 0.42 no doubt turned to that road and escaped long before water even reached area where we see them in the video. It seemed to me like the car in 1:27 it went through higher amount of water than in 1:29, so the car was moving to area less flooded. And it was speeding up, knowing the danger. The escape road towards left was really close. I think if there was no obstacle upon the road(like another car), then the car speeded away just in time. That is if it turned and didn't continue to that road we see people from 0:42 came from. If there was obstacle, that person could have still escaped, or if car was engulfed by water, still survive. The houses we see being destroyed, act bit as barrier, against strong current. Though there was debris and some current, the car would float for while, before water would fill it. By that the time debris is no longer smashing with strong force, the person could climb out of car and swim towards safety-which was really close. Even in icy water(it was less than 10 minutes swim distance, 10 minutes is minimum you have before hypothermia hits bad) and even in debris, that person in car might have still made it and there would be people nearby to help that person fight hypothermia even if that person was soak through and very weak. So with high probability the person in red car made it also. But not 100%.

This video didn't show a person trapped in the debris and they went and saved him. I think he was one of the people that ran out of the shop just before the water hit.
I pray these people coming out of the building (01:35) made it to safety !. They seemed shocked to see the water as at first they just seem to stare at it before turning to run !. Less than a minute later the yard they'd walked out onto was filled with buildings !!
At 1:02 the water splashes over the wall, by 1:10 it's a torrential flow...just watch how fast that is moving...you cannot out run that. I know it did no good to tell RUN to the people that appeared out of that building but I couldn't help myself just as I could not stop from yelling NOOOO at the person in the maroon vehicle.🥺 If this what happened in THE Best Tsunami Prepared Country on the Planet...🙏🧡🙏Japan
To protect yourself from the tsunami, prepare for evacuation in the event of an earthquake. If you do not prepare for evacuation, you are more likely to be affected. And the scenery seen from a high place shows the future. Hell is waiting in the low places. Fortunately, the people shown in the video are helpful. Please be assured.

Unfortunately, many ignored the warnings and stayed at home or work, remaining in the tsunami zone. Japan's much praised sea defence system was thought by many to be more than capable of stopping any tsunami. Added to this, complacency over false alarms, the freezing cold weather and a sense that it'll be okay was pervasive. However, all but one of the sea defence systems hadn't been designed to stop the size of tsunami that came, because no one had ever considered such a thing to be possible. They died in truly horrific circumstances, in buildings, vehicles, in tsunami safety zones and structures which had been located too close to the sea and which were too low in height. It may be said with absolute certainty that when furure alarms sound, they will be responded to immediately, as everyone had seen the terrible videos of the tsunami.

Прочитав статью о трагедии в СевероКурильске -1952... я узнала о цунами чуточку больше ...первая волна наплывающая (предупреждает..люди бегите на возвышенность.. )..вторая и третья уже опасные... Но почему здесь люди так поздно уходят( супертехнически осведомленные).. скорость этой цунами 700 км/ч... Очень большое кол.во жертв..общевзятые по прибрежным населенным пунктам..около 16тыс..много безвести пропавших...

Считаю, что одна в этом случае должна быть мысль - БЕЖАТЬ И КАК МОЖНО БЫСТРЕЕ В ГОРУ и там , на горе оценивать. Для япоцев, переживших столько этих цунами, не должно быть никаких оценок, кроме как БЕЖАТЬ в гору.
@@adminsz3259 Люди в то время считали цунами не более чем наводнением. Поставьте себя в ту же перспективу, что и люди, вышедшие из своих домов. Все, что они могли видеть, это крышу дома напротив. Поэтому они ничего не понимали, пока не услышали рев, вызванный цунами.
@@adminsz3259 Я много размышляла об этом. Думаю это был шок и мало времени на сборы и главное это люди приходили в ступор видя воду рядом с собой. Я ставила себя на их место и думаю, для того чтобы понять что нужно бросить всё и бежать нужно несколько секунд, что и видно на видео. Кроме того цунами всё-же бывает в Японии не так уж и часто и наконец не такой страшной силы.

I’ve seen numerous videos where they just stare feet away from certain death, then at the last minute, the slowly run or slowly drive away from the wave and debris, only to be overtaken and almost certainly killed. Please, Japanese people GET TO SAFETY FIRST, then stare down at the carnage.
@@tuutts39 I dont believe the thought it was going to be that serious. We live in an area where hurricians numerous and can be incredible destructive. They tend to be so commonplace that we tend to shrug them off and fail to take them serious. This appears to be the case here.

船が流されて行くところは、一瞬「早送り？」と思ってしまいました。宮古市を襲った津波は、こんなにも早い勢いだったのですね。
当時、NHKラジオ第二の気象通報を聞いていて、「宮古……入電はありません」涙声のアナウンスが忘れられません。
そして……４月に入電が再開した時の喜びも。
今 コロナ禍ですが、宮古 浄土ヶ浜パークホテルに滞在してます。こちらのホテルは、高台にある為 津波の被害は無く 被災した方達の避難場所として、ホテルのスタッフの方々が活躍されたとの事です。亡くなられた方達のご冥福をお祈り致します。
おでんセ「宮古」・・・パークホテルの周辺は散策出来ます。楽しんでください。
今の時期、ちょっと高いですが「ウニ」がおすすめです！絶品です！潮吹きも、ちょっと足を延ばせば、見る事が出来ます。ラーメンも楽しんでください！

津波は海が深ければ深いほどスピードが速くなるからね。
みんな大袈裟だべぇ、あんな高いとこさいっでぇ…という現実があったんだということが、津波が堤防越えたにも
関わらず呼びかけがなければ上に上がろうとしなかった人達が写る、こういう映像を見てるとよく分かります。
自然の圧倒的な力を目の当たりにするまで「なーに 大したこと無いさ」と舐めてる人が逃げ遅れても・・ 合掌

多分建物の影で津波が見えなかったんだよ。この映像を今後の避難訓練に活かして行けば良いと思います。

I agree!! I think they were depending on the levy’s to keep them safe. The sea is a bit bigger. So sad.

宮古の別の映像ですが、消防団？自衛隊？の人達と急げ走れと叫んでいたのに目の前まで波が押し寄せ、道路にいた数人を飲み込んだ瞬間のものを見たことがあります…
呆然と立ち尽くす人達の背中が切なくて苦しかった…

同じ市内で被災した者です。
当時は海から離れた場所で山の上に避難していましたが、閉伊川が逆流し、車が流され、小山田付近はマンホールが吹き上げている程度でした、全く海側の状況が分からずでした、暗くなり海側の自宅に帰る時やっと現状がわかりました。
自宅は海側ですが標高も高いところにあり無事でしたが、帰宅すると被災した親戚やらがいて驚きました。
あの日、この惨状を見なくて良かったのか…12年経っても悩み続けています。
みんな、唖然としてたもんね！人命救助もしたしね。毛布を担架にして、5・6人で担ぎ上げ、低体温対策をしたことを思い起こします。

This video didn't show a person trapped in the debris and they went and saved him. I think he was one of the people that ran out of the shop just before the water hit.
I pray these people coming out of the building (01:35) made it to safety !. They seemed shocked to see the water as at first they just seem to stare at it before turning to run !. Less than a minute later the yard they'd walked out onto was filled with buildings !!

At 1:02 the water splashes over the wall, by 1:10 it's a torrential flow...just watch how fast that is moving...you cannot out run that. I know it did no good to tell RUN to the people that appeared out of that building but I couldn't help myself just as I could not stop from yelling NOOOO at the person in the maroon vehicle.🥺 If this what happened in THE Best Tsunami Prepared Country on the Planet...🙏🧡🙏Japan
To protect yourself from the tsunami, prepare for evacuation in the event of an earthquake. If you do not prepare for evacuation, you are more likely to be affected. And the scenery seen from a high place shows the future. Hell is waiting in the low places. Fortunately, the people shown in the video are helpful. Please be assured.
@@385iwate I wish people here in the US would take your advice Seriously but they won't.A person here in California died from the 3/11 Tsunami trying to video the water surging up the Russian River. More people will perish here from trying to get Social Media Posts than people trying to Escape...🙏🧡

Unfortunately, many ignored the warnings and stayed at home or work, remaining in the tsunami zone.
Japan's much praised sea defence system was thought by many to be more than capable of stopping any tsunami.
Added to this, complacency over false alarms, the freezing cold weather and a sense that it'll be okay was pervasive.
However, all but one of the sea defence systems hadn't been designed to stop the size of tsunami that came, because no one had ever considered such a thing to be possible.
They died in truly horrific circumstances, in buildings, vehicles, in tsunami safety zones and structures which had been located too close to the sea and which were too low in height.
It may be said with absolute certainty that when furure alarms sound, they will be responded to immediately, as everyone had seen the terrible videos of the tsunami.

It's not 'Mas' but 'masu'. He says many times これてます which roughly means 'This is it'

Боже как страшно..какая сила и скорость волны.. Прочитав статью о трагедии в СевероКурильске -1952... я узнала о цунами чуточку больше ...первая волна наплывающая (предупреждает..люди бегите на возвышенность.. )..вторая и третья уже опасные... Но почему здесь люди так поздно уходят( супертехнически осведомленные).. скорость этой цунами 700 км/ч... Очень большое кол.во жертв..общевзятые по прибрежным населенным пунктам..около 16тыс..много безвести пропавших...
Причина задержки эвакуации заключается в том, что каждый человек по-своему оценивает величину землетрясения.
@@385iwate А то, что следом было оповещение о приближающемся ЦУНАМИ, какая при этом должна быть "оценка" ситуации? Считаю, что одна в этом случае должна быть мысль - БЕЖАТЬ И КАК МОЖНО БЫСТРЕЕ В ГОРУ и там , на горе оценивать. Для япоцев, переживших столько этих цунами, не должно быть никаких оценок, кроме как БЕЖАТЬ в гору.

Люди в то время считали цунами не более чем наводнением.
Поставьте себя в ту же перспективу, что и люди, вышедшие из своих домов.
Все, что они могли видеть, это крышу дома напротив. Поэтому они ничего не понимали, пока не услышали рев, вызванный цунами.
@@adminsz3259 Я много размышляла об этом. Думаю это был шок и мало времени на сборы и главное это люди приходили в ступор видя воду рядом с собой. Я ставила себя на их место и думаю, для того чтобы понять что нужно бросить всё и бежать нужно несколько секунд, что и видно на видео. Кроме того цунами всё-же бывает в Японии не так уж и часто и наконец не такой страшной силы.

Is it me, or do Japanese people NOT do anything possible to save themselves? I’ve seen numerous videos where they just stare feet away from certain death, then at the last minute, the slowly run or slowly drive away from the wave and debris, only to be overtaken and almost certainly killed.
Please, Japanese people GET TO SAFETY FIRST, then stare down at the carnage.

I dont believe the thought it was going to be that serious.
We live in an area where hurricians numerous and can be incredible destructive. They tend to be so commonplace that we tend to shrug them off and fail to take them serious. This appears to be the case here.

海水の影響で、ショートしてクラクションが鳴ったり、ウインカーやライトがつきます。
津波と共に右から左に走り抜けた車は助かったのかな？
そのあとわらわらと3人くらい建物から人が出てきたけど、助かったのかな？
