The Brihadweshar Temple in Tanjore (Thanjavur) was built in 1009 AD by Arulmozhi Varman aka Raja Raja Chola 1. He was given the name Ponniyin Selvan which means the son of Ponni. Ponni or Pennai is another name for Cauveri river. The Brihadweshar Temple was opened for the public in 1010 AD. It is one of the World Heritage Sites declared by UNESCO. This Temple is an architectural marvel by the Chola Empire. It was carved out from a single rock which stands more than 100 feet. It has been there for the past 1012 years. It's still preserved well. There is a crown portion on the top of the Temple. This rock alone weighs 83.6 tonnes (83600 kg). This Temple has no shadow even at noon. It is one and only architecture in this world having such a feature. Aditha Karikala Cholan is his elder brother. The Pandiya princess Nandini is actually a fictional character.
