We stayed in Mismaloya south of PV for 10 days of heaven right before the pandemic and both fell in love with the area and have now recommended it so many times. Such a quick flight from Canada and the USA. Hoping to get back for an extended stay some winter very soon.

WOW!!! Thanks so much for your care-ful "tutorial". It combines a general overview with detailed information, personal experience, opinions, fun and facts to makes you go or skip certain places. Explained with culture and common sense . Kind regards from someone who lived and worked (at VW) in Mexico a long time ago - and now wants to back and show his Korean wife... ; )
Very good video! We look forward to our October visit. On our last visit, my partner missed a step in a local store and fractured her hip quite badly. She spent four days in a hospital and had superb care. Google translate was our best friend - my four years of Spanish didn't include medical terms lol. And Uber. Cannot say enough. Why better than Taxi's? Because Uber drivers get the best fares when they have full stars. They rely on delivering you safe and happy. I took 10 Ubers in four days and everyone was fantastic. Full tips to all the drivers. We literally made it to that Church in Centro and one store so we definitely look forward to actually seeing the place next time!! Oh! And we had a Vallarta Adventures planned and that had to be cancelled. They not only refunded our money BUT the VA guys met our Uber at the Airport and arranged someone to take her through customs and the paperwork in her wheelchair and they took excellent care of us. Love that area.
We had the same experience! Obviously, not with the emergency injury, but my wife had a few surgeries while we were there. The medical care was amazing and so were all the people. Thanks for your comment.
I was there last month while on a cruise and got to walk around the malecon and church area, puerto Banderas, also a rancho for lunch. Felt much safer than here in los angeles, California. God bless, hope to return soon God willing 🙏
I stayed at both Centro and 5 de diciembre in the fall of last year, LOVED it! Thx for the tip re. Jarretaderas, need to check it out next. Thx for sharing! Hey you guys just discovered your vlog, fantastic. my wife and I have been going to P.V. for seven years going on eight. It is as though you were us in your attitude and love of exploration as well as a love for Mexico and her people and very much the food. I have to say I love this video in that you are giving a ton of information that is spot on, much more than just reviews of food and places to stay. Don't get me wrong I enjoy those videos as well but this is much more great information for someone who is investigating coming to PV. We will be checking out more of your content but thank you for doing a great job.
I'm loving that you mentioned Jarretaderas "Jarretas" for short. An awesome little local village (where i live) & love with a great past and present history of struggle & success. It's 100% authentic and the locals are the real deal. It greatly contrasts the rapidly developing NuevoNayarit. So many don't have the nerve to explore as it contrasts all the new development & literally & physically is shadowed by eL Monstruo Vidanta. Great food as you mentioned, on Tues has a great open air mercado (best deal in all of Nayarit). An awesome catholic church and park plaza just across the street. Buy some fresh tortillas, special mention to Mama' Nena's (to eat). Explore the area.... Muchas Gracias your always welcome back 😘🇲🇽

@@olesyaromanova-izgagina3779 lol!! Well I wish I could be more helpful on that end! Also Jarretaderas is a great place to visit, but for a whole stay can be a little boring. It’s not really close to the beach and other fun areas. So it’s definitely a great place for a day visit!
Gracias for this video - just last night I booked a trip to PV for Christmas, and it will be my first time. I've also just subscribed and appreciate your effort in compiling these tips and suggestions.
i love your guys's info on PV, i grew up there as a child and i fell in love with it i still visit every yr, for at least a month sometimes 2 at diff. times of the yr. as far as your spanish learning just think of it this way, the way it is written is the way it's pronounced, as long as u can read it it should be pretty simple but in the more touristy areas, most the locals know enough english to be able o communicate comfortably. enjoy the rest of your stay and i hope u guys are having a blast.
Thanks for watching and reaching out! We were so impressed with the locals English abilities and it definitely inspired us to go farther with our Spanish! -Erika
Hi Guys here's a true fact "Statistics show the crime rate in Puerto Vallarta is 37.01, much lower than Miami's 58.45 crime index. same with many US Cities sourced on Mar 14, 2023...great viz & info ..beautiful family ..hello from Van BC Canada
Hey! Thanks for watching! We were definitely turned around in the beginning when someone would mention Nayarit, until we realized… we were in it! Fun way to find out 😂 -Erika
Your video is really helpful and well explained. Your video and editing skills are superb. We are in Puerto Vallarta a lot and you explained the area really well. You have a cute family and we subscribed 🥰💞👍🏻
Just got back from 5 days (Oct 2023) in PV. My main complaint was the heat. I am 73 and found it hard to take, as very little air-conditioning is available. It was 90 degrees everyday, which isn't bad, but the humidity was like 95% and you just don't stop sweating. BTW, we took a water taxi to Yelapa to the beach and waterfall. Some guy there had the biggest iguana I have ever seen, and I actually held it. We stayed in a villa a little South of the Romantic Zone below the Hyatt. It was beautiful but a little old and needed maintenance and I did fall walking down the stone steps they had at the villa (there was no rail). It took us 57 steps to get up to the street level. Whew! Great video, BTW. I probably won't be going back as it was a little 3rd worldy to me.
Great Video! thanks for all the tips we are researching were to stay this coming winter, so this so helpful, ps i had medical in Guadalajara and yes my room was like a hotel very nice and my hubby did dental and we saved more than half..
Awesome!! Glad the video was helpful! And yes, we were very impressed with the medical and dental here! We didn’t really touch too much on it in the video, but it could be a whole video itself!
Thank you for saying that!! We are certainly trying. A lot of people have commented negatively about our spanish, (we just started learning) so I appreciate you saying that! - Matt
Awesome! Glad you got value out of the video. And yes that will help a ton. As you could tell we are learning 😂 it’s a very English speaking area also. So that makes it easier. - Matt
Hey! Thanks for watching and commenting! We fell in love with the culture and had a hard time leaving. Hoping to go back soon (with better Spanish next time 😁) -Erika
Nice overview..i first went to PV in 1976 before all the big development. The funny thing to me then was the McDonald's that had failed and was turned into a taco shop.. We stayed at old hotel Oceano downtown great memories.
@@TheirHappyTrails yes around 1995 when Nuevo Vallarta was just being started. They were relentlessly trying to sell us a property there for Nuevo but at the time it just seemed like a dumb idea. The pv ciudad Centro and malecon was still wonderful and altho there was a large hotel at mismaloya it was still very pleasant and enjoyable. Another sunset in paradise.
The title of the video gave me a real chuckle. I’m endlessly amused by people who’ve lived in México for ten weeks or ten months and who propose to explain México to others. I first arrived to work in Mexico City in the year 1978. I’m a bilingual dual national and have studied Mexican history here at the university level, yet after all these years I only comment on my perspective of México if someone asks, and I always caution that it is my perspective, and others may feel differently. México is a profoundly complicated country with an incredibly diverse population and culture.
Hi Lee! We agree, Mexico is incredibly diverse with a fabulous culture. I’ve been going since the 90’s and still feel like I’ve barely scraped the surface. This video was to simply lay out the basics of Puerto Vallarta for any travelers who had never been and who are thinking of going. Maybe you should create a more authentic and detailed version from your perspective? Doing our best and loving the journey… -Erika
Exactly. Amusing and well, annoying. People who want to "tell you all about it", yet cannot seem to pronounce the simplest of Spanish words. Funny, when they mis pronounce a place name...they giggle. Can you say cultural imperialism?
@@lagartogrande1908 hey, if you watched the video it must not have been that annoying 👍 also just because I can’t say something doesn’t mean I can’t do my best tell you about it. It’s annoying when people like you rag on people who are doing their best to adapt to the culture and learn about it. I don’t appreciate your input, but I do appreciate the comment so more people can see my gringo ass talk about PV! -Matt
Really enjoy your channel and your videos. We, too are thinking about a move to PV so there's lots of helpful stuff here. Would love to see a video about why you chose to live where you chose? (and if there is that video already, I'm sorry. I didn't see it) Right now that seems to be what we are working on.
Hey there! We don’t live in PV, just there for an extended visit! It’s hard to say where we would live, but most likely near the city because of more options! But it just depends on the person!
Really enjoyed your video. We have been to PV many times from the UK. Been to many of the places you mention, not over to Nuevo though, so might try the small village you talked about next time. Very positive and accurate video. Will definitely watch the next one. Thank you. I am Welsh like Richard Burton 😊
Hi Guys, Great video. My wife and I have been vacationing in PV 2 - 3 times per year for many years, and we absolutely love it. At one time or another we've stayed in all of the zones there. Our favorite is the Romantic Zone, and we always use AirBnB because of the many choices available. On another note, the quality of your video is excellent. What kind of camera and audio recording device do you use?
Hi Rick! Sorry it took so long to get back, we both thought the other replied haha! I’ll have Matt pop on and need out about his tech gadgets, that’s his department! So glad you enjoyed the video, cheers to PV! -Erika
It is just Vallarta to the locals. Nobody but tourists call it PV. Zones? If you really want to sound like you know what you are talking about, it's colonias, not zones. Colonias de Puerto Vallarta. Zones is a consumer label.
That is a great topic! We plan on making a video for it, but in a nutshell, flights were easy to find and book just like any other flights. Once in route, instructions are pretty clear in regards of what to do at customs and with baggage. The main suggestion is once you arrive, walk past all the people asking to give you a lift and go outside. There you’ll find registers cab drivers and a line for taxis. OR if you’re up for saving a few hundred pesos, walk out of there airport and turn left, keep walking along the front of the building then turn left again. You’ll see the tunnel that goes over the highway and on the other side are drivers and Uber pick up spots for a fraction of the price, like half! Good luck and let us know if there’s anything else we can help with! -Erika
Thanks for posting this video! I found it to be informative, very friendly. I am selling my house and property +2 townhouses and moving to Mexico. Puerto Vallarta is one on my list to check out. I like the fact you mentioned outside areas as I don't care to be around immigrant tourists . I have been to Mexico 25 times. I'd like to know more on basic medical if possible. Enjoyed the video!
We are visiting from the UK for the first time in Jan.24. Your videos have provided us with lots of info and tips for which we thank you. One concern that I do have as a smoker, is that the ban introduced earlier this year sounds very restrictive. Can you please give any indication as to what level it is policed. Thank you again. Jean
Excellent advice, and video! Thank you both! I’m heading there in a few weeks, and this was the most informative video I’ve watched yet. Your wife is just like me, in the terms of travelling “being her jam” 😉 quick question… I’m travelling solo, so any spots to avoid, or things to be aware of as a woman alone? I’ll be watching more of your content 👏
Hey! My girl, “our jam”! lol! Luckily, Puerto Vallarta is generally really safe. Just like any major city, avoid dark alleys at night. Otherwise, have at it! Hope it’s an amazing journey for you 🙌🏽
I spent Christmas in Puerta Vallarta, just got back and it was awesome. Stayed at a friend's place, he's lived there for 5 years so he knew it all. The thing I liked most about it was the people. Mexicans are polite, kind, friendly and gracious. If you walk by anyone on the street and say "buenos dias" you will get a smile and a response. I am obviously American, no one is going to mistake me for a native, and I think they appreciate it when you speak to them in Spanish. If, like me, you really don't know more than that most of them will slip right into English without missing a beat. Cool video, have fun out there!
Hi! Erika here. Christmas in PV!? I bet that was incredible! We may just have to venture there for some winter holidays (wink wink to Matt 😬). Yes, the locals definitely outstanding their kind and welcoming energy. Couldn’t count the amount of times they either tried to help us with our Spanish or giggled as we attempted. So glad you had a wonderful experience as well! Cheers!
@@TheirHappyTrails Hi Erika! Yes, indeed it is a fabulous place. So many different restaurants from Mexican to German to French to Venezuelan to Argentinian, the list goes on... I'm out looking for a home and pvr is definitely on my list. Costa Rica next stop, thanks for the information this was really excellent having just been there it felt like I was with you!
Great video and Puerto Vallarta is our favorite place in Mexico, that being said, time-share salesmen ruin the entire experience. From the airport, to popping up from a dead log on the beach they are everywhere. Even the consignee at our hotel was on the take, from Time Share companies.
Yeah, there are bunch! But it really depends where we are. In the tourist areas, sure, but in some more of the local area there are none at all. Just depends!
Thank You.. this was helpful. I want to live in Mexico for the culture, the weather, the people and the amenities. The only negative thing that I've heard about P.V. is the high humdity level at certain times of the year. ❤
You’re welcome! Thank you for the feed back. I’m glad it was helpful! And yes, most people who move there leave during the summer months because it does get really hot and humid!
A bit of history: Las Peñas was renamed Puerto Vallarta on May 31st, 1918, to celebrate the town’s promotion to a municipality by the state of Jalisco.
Helpful video. I may have missed it, my 2 year old was watching with me but how is the WiFi internet? Does it go out a lot? I would like to play online poker there for a few months out of the year. Thanks! Will continue to watch you guys!

Heading to PV in January. This video really helped me with the details others gloss over. Great job!

Glad it was helpful!

i love your guys's info on PV, i grew up there as a child and i fell in love with it i still visit every yr, for at least a month sometimes 2 at diff. times of the yr. as far as your spanish learning just think of it this way, the way it is written is the way it's pronounced, as long as u can read it it should be pretty simple but in the more touristy areas, most the locals know enough english to be able o communicate comfortably. enjoy the rest of your stay and i hope u guys are having a blast.
Thanks for watching and reaching out! We were so impressed with the locals English abilities and it definitely inspired us to go farther with our Spanish!
-Erika
One should try to speak Spanish, not the other way around. Just because "the locals" speak some English, does not mean they will speak it with you.
@@lagartogrande1908 I totally agree! But it is nice for someone like me who is practicing

Lots of good info here. I wasn't even aware of the Nuevo Nayarit name change. Thanks.

We just got back from P. V. This video is very informative. Thank you
Awesome! Hope you had a great time! -matt
Hey thanks for sharing your experience! Glad you enjoyed the video :)

Great video! Vallarta is beautiful!
Thank you! We loved it!
Nice overview..i first went to PV in 1976 before all the big development. The funny thing to me then was the McDonald's that had failed and was turned into a taco shop.. We stayed at old hotel Oceano downtown great memories.
Wow!! Yes im sure it has changed so much since then! Have you come back here since?? -Matt
Thanks for sharing !
We loved our time there, and thanks for watching!

Doing our best and loving the journey…
-Erika
-Matt
Really great video... I'm heading to your other ones now!
So are you guys just traveling around PV or are you living there?
Awesome! Glad you liked it, and found it accurate!! Yes the small town is a great place to visit. Thanks you for tuning in and commenting!
Great. Thanks

Hi Guys,
Great video.
Thank you for the video we are excited to come to Puerto Vallarta
Read my comments and also the comment from Vicente Hernandez!
Our pleasure!
Super helpful info!
Thanks Jen!!!!!! See you tomorrow!!
This was really amazing ❤❤
Hey Emma! Thank you for saying so! I hope it was helpful if your planning to come to Puerto Vallarta!! -Matt
Very thorough video!
Thanks for watching!
Excellent video. What about your experience with the airport & flights in & out? I'll be watching more of your vids...
-Erika

We are visiting from the UK for the first time in Jan.24. Your videos have provided us with lots of info and tips for which we thank you. One concern that I do have as a smoker, is that the ban introduced earlier this year sounds very restrictive. Can you please give any indication as to what level it is policed. Thank you again. Jean
Hey, I smoked just fine everywhere we went in PV! It was no problem
It's prohibited in closed places. in an open environment there's no problem

Hi I am coming to Puerto Vallarta in a couple of weeks, on a cruise. Can we rake a taxi to the Zona Romantica?
Yes. Or, ride a Cento Plaza Bus outside of the cruise terminal for 10 pesos.
Hope it’s an amazing journey for you 🙌🏽
@@TheirHappyTrailsthanks doll! I’m much more confident about it now. So looking forward to it! 🏝️

Yes please! We are not in PV anymore, but plan to visit in often. We just moved to Costa Rica!
great video. by the way, Puerto Vallarta is the safest city in Mexico, and way safer than most cities in the US
But, do not lull yourself to sleep in PV! There is crime!
Yes, but I agree with him. We felt much safer there any bigger city in the USA
Gracias from Texas 👍

Hey man!! Glad you tuned in! Hope the rest of your time in PV was great! Let’s stay in touch!
We will be there early May staying at the Mayan. Where is the local place to eat that's close to the resort?
There are tons of great restaurants everywhere!
I will give you a tip for those time share promoters, just tell them that you live in town and they would let you go free
Thank You.. this was helpful.
Welcome
A bit of history: Las Peñas was renamed Puerto Vallarta on May 31st, 1918, to celebrate the town’s promotion to a municipality by the state of Jalisco.

Hi, thanks for the travel info. Question for you, I'm a middle aged active female looking to travel solo to Puerto Vallarta. I will be staying at an all inclusive, am not sure if staying in Puerto Vallarta ( Centro zone), or up in the neuvo nayarit area( looking at the Rius).Which area would you recommend? Thanks
Hey there!! We would recommend centro if you want to venture out of the resort and experience Mexico. But if you want to stay in the resort and want more luxury (more Americanized) then stay up north in Nayarit
wonderful
I'm going to PV from SF via cruise ship in Feb. I've only been to Nuevo Vallarta but never PV, so I'm excited
