In 2014, the Home Office discovered Exam Frauds at some govt-approved centres for Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) which involves a written and oral section and a separate multiple-choice question paper. The Home Office has also deported more than 1,000 people after its own probe into exam fraud began in 2014.
The cheating scandal came to light in an undercover BBC Panorama investigation into fraud at two centres administering the mandatory language tests. As a result, the Home Office ordered the US firm providing the exams, Educational Testing Service (ETS), to check more than 58,000 tests taken between 2011 and 2014. It said voice-recognition software suggested that proxy test-takers were used in more than 30,000 cases.
Labour MP Stephen Timms has said many students were falsely accused, and had been given no opportunity to clear their name.
Denied Appeal rights: Driver’s licence revoked, bank accounts closed, can’t use hospitals for free and in a woman’s case she was billed £14,000 for child birth.
"They trusted Britain to provide them with a decent education. Instead, they've been falsely accused of cheating and been given no chance to appeal."

Do not be surprised. The UK government has been dysfunctional since 2016. That's the Brexit Bonus. If you are familiar with the story of The Wizard of Oz, where Dorothy peeks behind the curtain and sees Oz, not a wizard, but a machine minder. That machine is the system of governing which is well and truly broken. The worst political shenanigans is now in play, and the worst human instincts are now are unrestrained. And any migrant living in this country should be careful. Targets have been set to reduce migration, something that they had failed at for years. Now the ruling party is on the back foot and have to prove themselves. Populism is a dangerous path, and they are following it to stay in power. I do not know how this travesty of justice can be endured, and it will further harm this country's reputation. But I'm not surprised. People looking to come to the UK to study need to look elsewhere.

There are just so many historical and contemporary dynamics, including brain drain, lack of unity, limited vision, corrupt government officials and their colonial cronies, ethnic divisions, RELIGIOUS ZEALOUSY, European idolatry, etc. that prevent African progression. I think it's high time people of like minds should get together to create a global satellite station to focus on the unreported/ underreported/misreported part of the world, it doesn't cost too much in the era of technology and pulling of technical and financial resources to do this.

Now I am definitely happy I did not go to England to study Law. I was already admitted into several schools and just decided it made no financial sense. Hearing this confirm my assumptions. The way international students are treated there is appalling, if this is the case. I think there should be mobilization by these people to make their stories known to the wider public. This can further bring public scrutiny to the whole process. Thanks for enlightening us about how the system in UK is festering anti immigrant feelings. Clearly I’m in support of justice for those who are found wanting, but it is sad to hear how they are using it as a blanket excuse to massively deport students.

I studied law in the UK and this nonsense is why the UK should ever remain in the European Union. The EU law trumps the UK law that is not consistent with the EU law. If students are prevented from exercising their rights in the UK, they can take the UK to the Human Rights Commission in Strasbourg. I am surprised that the UK can do this when they are still in the EU. What will happen if the country exit the EU? Nasty UK.

They’re thinking of introducing Martial law. We will now witness the real cruelty that will be exerted on migrants. @@oliviak9617, I know they voted out but the UK are still in the EU since 3 years back until the country exit maybe this year. Legally, the EU law still apply until then. These sort of reckless behaviour is so sad. I still believe that remedies could be sought from the HR court. Unfortunately, this action ought to have been taken 3-4 years ago. Since the UK may exist EU in a few months time, the victims may be left in the cold. So terrible to hear of these actions because I know what it takes to be an international student in the UK and then ending so badly because of the government's wicked actions. Unfortunate.

    • @Tafariification
      @Tafariification 5 років тому

European court of human rights would probably do nothing about it coz their primary aim to cater for European citizens as compared to other people. The UK govt is being led by a right wing party that has now shifted further right (the more right , the more racist)The current prime minister was once the home secretary/ minister and it was during her tenure that most of these draconian rules took effect with the aim being to make life very tough/ hostile for illegal immigrants but that has disastrously backfired and as consequence genuine , innocent immigrants have been caught up in this whole mess. The people in the home office are under pressure to meet targets for deportation numbers hence they will ultimately make reckless/idiotic decisions so that they can keep their job and get rewards. In the long term this is going to kill UK universities as international students will seek alternatives in other countries.

I think it's time for the university systems in the countries of origin of the foreign students to start allowing contributory lectures and reseaches from there diaspora technical and academic experts, this would greatly improve the quality and quantity of students and research output coming from this countries. This would help build the economy and brain power of the countries; because as you said, the UK and other developed western world, don't give a damn about Africa and the other developing part of the world.

Some students were doing their last yr degrees, phds n so on,so u want to tell me tht they did all their studies cheating exams as well? Coz if u can even pass ur 1st yr in all subjects taught in English surely u can pass tht English test, I myself have written it twice, thts how I got to loose my student Visa, same story many of us got trapped in tht test, we wrote first time passed, than apparently the UKBA said we needed to take another one coz the Mark's were not enough, went to take another just for them to come back n say we can use the first one Mark's now have been lowered, tht tym ur Visa has already expired now they required u must have £7000 in ur account to do ur Visa... it's so unfair to do such to ppl,no proof nothing, cancelling ppl's hard work (qualifications ) jus like tht. I am so angry... coz I can remember what I went through, n tht was 9 yrs ago. This are the things tht let to many students over staying n being illegal.
Apart from tht many ppl come from English speaking countries, which English was brought to our countries by them by force, now they have to test us,wen our first language is English?

It is my understanding that the only lasting solution available to us is for Africans to develop Africa. It will not be easy because the agenda to keep Africa down is deep but I believe that it is possible if we are determined to make progressive choices. The whole Africa continent with exception of few countries was under slavery and some Africa leaders pulled together with a determination to liberate us from physical slavery. It was difficult but their common purpose was achieved with South Africa being the last country to transcend from apartheid regime to democracy. It is time for us to pull together once again to develop home and then we can negotiate with the western world as equal human beings.

Hi Phrankleen. I think what you are doing is absolutely amazing and we f with you in my household. We wanted to bring to your attention that you may want to look at issues regarding the leave to remain granted to immigrants based on humanitarian which is for 2 and Half years and they have to renew it about 4 times before getting settlements. We have a lot friends around us with this issue and the money spent over the years is ridiculous plus the fact that the UK govt just recently increased the NHS additional charge from £500 to £1000. You might be interested in looking into this and discussing what you think. ✌🏽

I think the gross violation of human rights highlighted by you illustrates what I consider to be the tip of the iceberg. I’ve often wondered why the U.K. would allow themselves to be manipulated into leaving a free common market, a coalition of EU states that provide all the economic benefits that the free movement of human resources and goods can allow. Let me say it is that overarching, inconvenient concept of international law. As long as the U.K. is not part of the EU or strives to leave it - they can and will continue to deny anyone that falls within the scope of its controls their basic entitlement of human rights. Without of course, any repercussion from the international court of justice. It’s been happening to minorities in several sectors - banking, housing, health - the list goes on. When the lid is blown off the MASSIVE SCALE of what is going on here, this country would have sailed out of the EU like the pirate ship it is.

Most of us are originally from countries were our country's passports mean nothing to the west.... Yet we let the west come to our continent.. Breed, take at will while we lazy around and sleep... Instead of building our continent's economy... Nooo the west is "better" 🤔🙄😩.. That's why they feel like they can switch immigration rules whenever it suites them....... I.e the Windrush situation... That is an example of...hmmm No comment honestly... How can you be here for donkey years... Someone tells you.. U and them have the same status.. Then u will believe.. And sit.. Whilst other people with your same colour are paying thousands to sort out their papers....
My brother it may seem like am ranting but I think this sunden switch to visas, immigration documents being messed with, it's an attack on the black community mainly.... Because how many black foreigners can come here and comfortably not worry about papers, except if they are Americans or Europeans by birth or citizenship...
All am saying is, let's build our contitent... Invest in it and be proud... Of it... So that we don't have to run here, and secondly.. Let their be t and c's they that the west has to adhere too.. When they come to do whatever in our continent...
