Wow man, this guy. Such genius, effortless technical command, peerless artistry - yet the humility to play with the score in front of him. Great pianists will come and go, but there will never be another Richter.
Very well said! Sviatoslav Richter was absolutely unique! Unparalleled or peerless q.q.= qualitate qua, because it is lonely at the top and he was absolutely top quality. Primus inter pares. An absolute hero, who has had a very tough life, but he deserves total respect and deep admiration for all his wonderful achievements on the piano for more than half a century.
The best pianist in the World are from Russia , sad , they are no more alive ! We " have now " garbage from China , this prostitute Wang and the psycho Lang- Lang ! Only idiots can accept their " performances ' ashame !!!!
@@present3348 he had a memory slip at a concert in Japan and started playing with the score after that, saying it was disrespectful to the audience to not have it in front of him. I appreciate his thought process on that.
i guess Im asking the wrong place but does anyone know a trick to get back into an instagram account..? I was stupid forgot the password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me
Even in the golden years of his life, he achieved so much; the retirement mentality simply was not his mentality. I hope to be so productive when I'm that old.
Fritz Maisenbacher I think this is the world’s first great minor key sonata (I would give the award to ‘first great sonata’ to the A flat Hob. XVI:46 written in c.1768, ie about three years earlier). Beyond the technical demands, the key to a successful performance of this powerful and moving sonata lies in the interpretation; this work is so profound, it offers fantastic opportunities to every great pianist, very evident in this performance.
The amazing thing about Sviatoslav Richter is that he's the only classical piano master I can think of that was mostly self-taught. Yet, in my view, his interpretations are among a select few that come closest to capturing the intent of the composer's original script.
James Lorenz I get your point, but this music is quintessential Haydn, and barely a note of it could be said to be by any other composer. This is the world’s first unquestionably great, minor key sonata; a profound and moving work of great originality. You will listen to it many times and as you have already identified, discover many layers of sound and meaning.
To think that on the very day of this performance the Soviet Union was being officially dissolved! I wonder what was going on in Richter's mind and heart--and those of his Moscow audience. It must have been important to have an icon like him perform so beautifully, contributing to a sense of stability and pride.
Richter proves his greatness over and over again. Here we hear it throughout and in the passionate moments of the last movement, his humaness comes through with some split notes. But note how in the repetition...it's absolutley perfect...How cares? The emotional impact and more importantly the emotional statement goes beyond.
No. This is not a song. The performer is a pianist, not a singer. There are no words. Songs are vocal compositions. Piano and other instrumental compositions are pieces.

Meraviglioso e indimenticabile!
Richter is so amazing. I keep returning to this performance again and again.

He is the one and only whose playing makes me cry

Desde siempre 🙏🇮🇷 ❤️. Y para siempre Richter 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Richter masters the flowing, cantabile essence of Haydn sonatas, the notes move from theme to theme, and Richters moves with notes...
Precioso ❤️ escenario buen sonido gracias
Even in the golden years of his life, he achieved so much; the retirement mentality simply was not his mentality. I hope to be so productive when I'm that old.
Take a look at his notebooks and conversations :)
To play Haydn at any age is a nice thing to do
@@PK-re3lu I have this, it’s a wonderful window into Richter, the artist and the man.
Such emotion after all those years from The Master is heartwarming, to say the least.

Our great Soviet maestro, great pianist of the 20th century, also a man of great integrity.
This is amazing! Start of sonata its a one of the most sad moments in music history
Thank you. At least someone who is listening.

I could have heard Sviatoslav Richter in Bamberg in 1995, but in my youthful exuberance I didn't go. Today I regret it.

"mostly self-taught"? No. Richter had great teachers. Tho, it's said that Richter invented his own techniques.
A true Maestro.. i miss you so much~

Valioso recuerdo!
Très joli!
Some parts of this make me feel like I am listening to a collaborative composition from Chopin, Mozart and Beethoven. Haydn is very interesting.

Nice work if you can get it. Sviatoslav seems to be a timeless, disinterested avatar, a vehicle to convey the composer's subtlest ideation.

It is so perfect except the audience...
The audience is so rude. They came to the concert to cough.
Is not a live perfom without cough hahaha.
They are much better than most of the British/American audiences.
You live in Russian climate and you will cough ,too...
Artur Rubenstein once commented that 10% of the people with a bad cough went to the doctor. The other 90% went to his concerts.
