Just done this. Cheers for the guide it was really helpful. Left was easy. Right was a little trickier but the trim tools were helpful and a screwdriver helped with getting one of the clips “over the line” so to speak. Black grilles installed!
All these videos where you just pull the top 3 clips and the grill "falls out" are click bait b.s. There are 3 more on the bottom of each clip that are difficult to get to. Be careful you don't break anything.

Hi mate. Mine props out a bit but it pretty much is stuck there, I've applied enough force to pull it out.. what's on the underside do you know? Seems like there's more clips? Also does the top part need to come out fully before the bottom part stars moving? The black on yours look awesome btw.. 👌
Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier. Once I had pushed on those tabs and pushed outwards, it pretty much came out pretty easily and just had to pull on it lightly. Yes, definitely love the black look!! Enjoy yours!
I have not found a way to remove the grill underneath the fog lights without removing the whole front bumper. It isn't too bad of a job and I need to post that video. Just do not have time at the moment. I believe you might be able to remove two/three screws from the wheel well liner turning your wheel towards the inside of the car so you have a little space. Pull the liner towards you and you should be able to get your arm in there or use a grasping tool if you can see the sensor in there where you would be able to grab it. Hope that helps.

I ordered the Kidney Grill off of Amazon. I'll put a link in my description. I had searched for Front Kidney Grille for 2018-2021 BMW X3 G01Double Slat.
I imagine it would be similar. I haven't seen the X1 up close with the hood popped up, but you would have to just look in between the grill and bumper and see if it is similar.
2021 should be the same. Just look for the open slots where you can see the tabs from the grill and push with a screwdriver/pry tool slowly and out. Just be careful you don't hit your paint.
I am not sure for the BMW g15 8 series. You may want to see what clip or access push points you have on the grill insert so it can be safely removed without breaking. Just use light pressure and see if any spots feel like they could still be in place until each part of grill points are loose enough to pull out.
Watching this cause I just bought a pair to put on my x4 😄

I did not have any issues with lining up. The grilles did not whistle on me and were fine.
Do these grills automatically open and close if the engine is hot?
Unfortunately no. But that would be a cool feature depending on the temp!!

Any idea how to remove the little grill underneath the fog lights? My PDC sensor fell inside and BMW wants an arm and a leg to fix it.

Same process for the 2018 I assume. Having my window trim wrapped next week and want to get rid of the chrome grill
