  • How to Remove BMW Grilles The Right Way!
    In this video I show you how to Remove the BMW OEM grille and install black kidney grilles in your BMW the right way. Using this method to install and remove the kidney grilles will ensure you don't break any tabs and can swap the OEM grilles back in if you need to.
    The F chasis of BMWs have the grills as part of the front bumper. Older BMWs would sometimes have them as part of the hood which made the installation of black kidney grills much easier. For BMW's where the grille is part of the front bumper like this F22 M235i, you will need to first loosen up the top of the bumper. This will give you access to the back side of the bumper. Once you have access to the back side of the bumper you can start loosening the clips that hold the oem kidney grilles in and remove them. Once the oem kidney grilles are removed, you can easily install your M performance or other aftermarket black kidney grilles into the bumper. Changing the kidney grilles of a bmw is very easy when you do it the right way as I show in this video.

    Just received them, about to put them on my 118 now. That's the first video that i found that actually shows the locking mechanism of the plastic and how to press it. Jeez, Thank you for this. I really did watch around 20 videos till now and every1 is just saying "Press them out" leaving us to guess how. T30 in hand im going downstairs now, thanks again!

    Thanks a lot for the video - I’d class myself as a novice at doing things like this - took me about 35 minutes from start to finish (taking my time). Was thinking of getting it done at my local bmw body shop - they quoted me 2 hours labour + 20% VAT. Thought I’d have ago myself after watching this - very glad I did - a lot easier than I thought it would be. Thanks again!

      Do you mean permanently? The bumper plastic is very flexible so bending it up to access the grill isn't an issue.

    I have tried to remove the OEM grills four times and still have not succeeded. I can't seem to push the tabs down far enough. I have even tried a long screwdriver pushing as hard as I can on a tab and it wouldn't move. Any suggestions? I've got the new all black grills sitting on my bench. Tomorrow I'll try to reach the tabs through the slats. I have pretty small hands and because of that I originally thought I'd have no problem getting the OEM grills out. No such luck. Thanks for any suggestions.

    • @TunerTestDrive
      @TunerTestDrive  5 років тому +2

      The key I’ve found was to make sure you are pulling out on the grill while your other hand is on the inside pushing the tabs down. It can help if you have another set of hands to do that part while you work on the tabs. If you don’t care to save the OEM grill you can always cut out some slats to gain access to the tabs through the grill instead of going behind the bumper.

    Dealer wants to charge me more for the install than the parts themselves, which is ridiculous. I'm doing this myself. Even if it takes half an hour for an idiot like me, it's a 5-minute job for an experienced mechanic with a fully equipped workshop. Hope it won't be too hard, the only thing that scares me is getting those clips on the first one but we'll see, how hard can it be?

  • @Baris1Eris

    Great video -- two questions: I have the night vision option and thus left grill has that camera, any suggestions/pointers on how to do the replacement with NV camera in there? Second question, I noticed that you plugged the licence plate screw holes with alpine white colored screws of sorts, where did you get those? Thank you.

    • @TunerTestDrive
      @TunerTestDrive  6 років тому +5

      I think the night vision camera is part of the grill so you'll have to find specific black grills that include the camera housing. What model do you have?
      The bumper plugs you can get from Bumperplugs.com, they look much better than the ugly holes left by front plate brackets.
