  • You may have heard the "ease, hike, trim" sequence mentioned for managing gusty, stronger conditions. Did you know it's also an effective flow for the light wind? In light wind, we create more power by easing, more speed by adding weight, and more efficiency by trimming.     Is this sequence primarily used for managing a blow? Or do you do this even with consistent wind?

      In the type of sequence shown here with little vang, it is used in light wind. If your boat is changing speeds upwind due to wind changes, chop or other factors such as wind shadows from other boats, an adjustment in mainsheet trim in generally advised to compensate.
