Hey everyone! We are back home and we wanted to make a video showing the top foods you must try before leaving Japan! Let us know what you think! Please leave a comment and like the video and don't forget to Subscribe!! Thanks for all the support :D Y&S
Salam! I just wanted to share that for takoyaki, there is a halal shop in Shinsekai, Osaka. When I was there, I asked the chef what makes the takoyaki different (for halal and non halal kinds) and he said that takoyaki stalls may use Lard as oils. That was already a red flag for me. But there are more factors that contributes to takoyaki being not safe to eat (as a halal consumer) even tho it is seafood, like the tools they use. Most of it are made of pigs. But wallahualam. It is good to find out what makes a food halal (or not halal) especially while travelling.
One of my lecturer who work in halal certification section in JAKIM (Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia or Malaysian Islamic Development Department) have been requested by the Japanese industries to teach them about how to make a food halal to Muslim. So you can be sure that the Japanese are very serious about this halal business. They've been aiming to increase the number of Muslim tourist.
Assalamualaikoum. Regarding takoyaki, some takoyaki mix packs, which are used as the basic flour, are halal and others are not. And for soy sauce, the majority contain alcohol.. please be careful. May Allah grant us ease.
Thanks for the video, but for Japanese food, there's a huge problem which is Mirin. It is a kind of vinegar which contains alcohol, and is used in most dishes, rice, noodles, and broth. So basically, pretty much everything from sushi to noodles become haram in a way...
Japanese foods usually contain sake or mirin or both. It is used as part of their dips ( usually added to their soy sauce) and also in their seafoods dishes, sushi, even vegetarian foods, soups, meat and chicken and some deserts. A quick check online will show many recipes from Japan where sake and mirin is used in most recipes. Unless maybe a person request at restaurant for these alcoholic seasonings to be omitted?
Welcome to Japan! Unfortunately, most of Japanese foods contains mirin, miso, soy sauce and rice vineger. And alcohol is added to most of them. Of cource there are some of them which has halal certification, but those are not commonly used in Japan.
I don’t want people to miss understand that it’s should be hard to find absolutely “halal” food in Japan. The sauce for Takoyaki or Okonomiyaki, mayo and even soy sauce are maybe include alcohol (vinegar) if there are not halal restaurant. Please don’t miss understand guys! You must be make sure each time, there isn’t halal food everywhere..
asalam u elikum . watching your yummy videos and loving every singel one specially right now in ramadan 😂 . help alot to find halal food . inshallah yull get above million subscribers salam from pakistan.
Assalamualaikum, Thanks for your video, it's very helpful.. But it's better if you provide information about the name of the restaurant and the location, because there are some foods like okonomiyaki and others that use pork and sake Thank you very much
I agreed, plus I think its much better to show the halal certificate as well.. Because a lot of vendors might use the cutleries and kitchen tools that they used to cook pork/lard/alcohol based food, to cook those non pork/lard/alcohol food as well..
@@TifaYuki Oh well at the hotels and tourist areas people know english, but I have to admit it was not as easy as I thought. We used google translate a lot and people were very friendly and helpful!
Hi I have a question about okoknomyaki or tepanyaki was made infront of you,but was that only for vegetarians? My point is what if the another customers order that included poultry or pork was prepared in the same place or the same spatula and it was just cleaned by a wipe. I am just trying to understand don't get me wrong. or where they certified hala establishments. As you chose sea food for tepanyaki hence I thought over . Thanks
Hey :D there are designated restaurants that are just seafood and do not serve any pork/chicken etc. There is also a halal japan app that you can use and it tells you which restaurant serves halal :D
Nurezwani Rusli hey! Yes of course my other vlogs I go into details of the names and locations but tell me which place and restaurant and I will give you the info:)
Salaam bro! I watched all your videos before I went to Japan, and I agree with everything on this list except the naritaya ramen place (only place we did not enjoy). Thanks for your vids it helped on my trip a lot!
Salaam bro! Thank you yes I agree. We didn’t mention narirtya but at least people should try Ramen when they go. There are now better halal ramen in Japan so next time :)
Wa'alaykumsalam Yusuf . I wanna asked you some question . What about the sauce , japanesse sauce they make for the cooking and the food , is it halal too ?.... is it have halal sertificate in each street food kiosk that you mention in this video ?...... because you know japan sauce like " Mirin " and " Rice Vinegar " are contains alchohol in it , and its Haram , Alchohol forbidden in Islam .
Nahda Zira that’s a great question! So if you are going to eat ramen it’s best to find a halal restaurant cause a lot of the ramen is made from pork. However there are a lot of ramen stores that serve seafood or vegetarian ramen but you have to ask them.
Sushi is a cold meal, and expensive fancy sushi restaurant tends to make lukewarm rice sushi because eating a cold meal isn't good for your stomach or digesting. Oh, I'm Japanese, and I recommend you to eat sushi with hot soup like miso soup, or hot green tea. Don't eat cold sushi only, for your health!

Hi! I'm Singaporean (-: Yup we have a lot of Halal food here. Even have authentic hand stretched noodles/boneless chicken rice (Chinese Cuisine) that's halal and super great! Just search it up and there's so many articles to read. We're basically food heaven HAHA please come
KiIIaInc Salaam Bro! The ramen place is called Naritaya Ramen! But there are a lot of other halal ramen places all over Tokyo :) make sure you google to see which one you want to try
I have a question. Are ALL the shops that sells (for example) takoyaki, in the popular street that sells food, halal ? or is there a specific shop that sells halal takoyaki?
Aliah Ah Salaam! Jazakallah for reaching out. Yes! Most are halal the only ones that are not halal is if they put pork in the takoyaki ball but we found that 90% only used halal ingredients :)
You go to a teppanyaki restaurant, even though you are choosing seafood, how can you confirm the previous customer not having pork or beef on the teppan?
Could you please be more specific at which particular street stall in Dontonbori you got the halal Takoyaki? Certified Halal? I was queuing for Takoyaki at a very popular stall on the opposite side of the Glico man. Guess what I saw while queuing?! The same stall sells pork - listed on their menu stuck on the wall.
golekgolek Salaam! The one we went to is called Kukuru, they use octopus inside the takoyaki ball and there is no pork or other meat. It doesn’t need to certify for halal cause it serves seafood and not meat :)
Salaam Heyam! Yes next time I will include the name of the restaurants or locations. But if there is any specific ones let me know and I will tell you :D

The sushi restaurant is called Umi, it is a michelin star reviewed restaurant it was amazing :D but there are so manyyy sushi restaurants in Tokyo. The best place to find good sushi is at the fish market. Honestly I am not that picky with Mirin, I asked all the chefs and they said there is no trace of alcohol in the sushi and rice so it depends on your comfort level :D
So you’re following with the fatwa or knowledge the fits the most to you? If it’s containing mirin or alcohol but has to trace in it? Then it is permissible? I recognized at first that it Umi, the chef face that i knew. Hmmm pricey bu lt worth the value :)
There are a few fatwas that say that that alcohol can be used in cooking if the flavor, or texture is not there such as putting it in vanilla extract which are used in cakes and pastries. I would not eat pasta that is cooked in wine because the flavor is still there and the wine used is meant for consumption.
