I really appreciate your videos. I was struggling to solve the red release button with the spring, however after viewing your video regarding this issue, it was easy to solve it and also the trick to disassemble all plastics and screen parts. You are smart and your videos are easy to understand and remember.

I Followed Your Video 2 Years Ago For My DC40. I Used A Combination Of Air Compressor, Steam & Plastic Car Trim Removal Tools. A Bit Of Rubber Friendly Lube On Any Gaskets Will Help With Replacement. Cone Filter Can Be Rinsed For Cleaning But I Recommend Bottom (Ball Filter) Be Replaced Or Gently Blown Out With Air. To Date, It Is still Working As It Should. You Sir Are The Man And I thank You.

Great video. I really appreciate the fact that you left in the parts that didn't quite go to plan. They give a good indication of what to look out for. I was particularly interested to see the spring replacement. I had previously completed a DC41 overhaul following your guide and now this one for the DC40. Keep up the good work.

This is fantastic! I've had the desire to take it apart and clean the individual parts, I'm glad I never went for it because I'm sure I would've broken it. I would've been forceful, so glad for this video. ❤️❤️❤️ thank you for the video!

Really , really good guide ! I just got at DC 40 from my gf after her complaining that it did work very well so she went out and got another hoover. So pretty much followed step by step and the floor and myself where an utter mess !! No wonder it didn’t work very well as the filter was almost rock hard , also the little circle bit on the top of the cyclone where caked in dust pellets think there was about 5 still clear. Torque T15 bit was what I used to unscrew with something that was long enough to reach I say easily 20 cm . The only fiddly bits where the springs I found that with the red clip u best put it on and twist it before clipping back together and the little grey bit best to take off and leave till end . A simple flat head as long it’s got the spring in and facing the right go hand side will easily push back in . Easily half an hour to strip , hour to clean all parts then leave to dry over night and about half an hour to put back. The difference in the hoover now is night and day and I’ve pencilled in another deep clean service next year:)

Indeed, good job. Dyson never advertised this type of maintenance. it is dirty work, best done outside. It is great to do a job like this yourself and see the difference. I think if you wash the filters out frequently, then it might not happen. But I dunno. I think there is a lot to be said for bagged vacuum cleaners.

Legend!!! Simply blowing it out does nothing. Even with new filters, the stale dust smell still lingers and is probably why you found it dumped outside. Taking it apart like you have is the only way to avoid paying someone else to do the same. I've just done mine and it was disgusting inside, definitely the source of the smell. Thanks for showing me how to do it.

Thank you so much. I nearly ruined the gasket covering the top screws for the cyclone head but seen this video.
I stupidly washed the cyclone with a hose pipe to clean the paint dust from it after connecting the sander to the hose.
I thought it was clear after the wash but after taking the cyclone apart the holes were still blocked.

Greetings from Cleveland Ohio. Thank you so much for this video! A friend gave us one of these since it became to heavy for her and it needed a deep cleaning. Without your efforts shown here I know my level of frustration with the canister would have been pretty high. Anyway when I got into removing the screws to get to the cones I found seven screws to remove on mine not six like yours. The Vac is like new now. Best Wishes!

Just had to make the effort to sign in to say thank you very much for taking the time to make the video. It helped me sooooo much in taking my (sh!te compared to the old ones) Dyson animal ball apart to its component parts to try and find out why the suction is sh!te, and why it actually BLOWS dust out when started up !! It was relatively clean inside, so will give it a try when the filters have dried out, and see how it goes. I'm glad I got to find out where the cyclone screws are, how to access them, how to get the two springs inserted before I had to try and find out for myself......a big thank you again 🙂

A bit late to the party , pensioner neighbour was just out on her patio with a DC40 and she said it had stopped sucking , i looked at it and could see the internal pipe was all split , not the easy one , the one after that , so i have ordered her one as she was going to buy a new Vacuum ! Any way I brought it home and thought i would give it a good clean, the gauze was completely blocked and behind it was a few MM thick. The gauze is quite sturdy and i wire bushed it clean with a small soft wire brush.. Anyway I though how do you get behind the gauze.. you have helped so i will now take it off to clean . Thanks
