In terms of popularity, Bill Elliott was Hulk Hogan (not many Winston Cup guys can say they were on the cover of Sports Illustrated in the 1980s) BUT overall, Elliott has to be NASCAR's Bret Hart.
Thanks so much for doing a video on my all time favorite NASCAR driver. Been a fan of NASCAR now for 34 years. and great job on the video great work on getting the stats for the video. I am blessed to call you a friend. May God bless you and your family
A major factor of this season was the first tire war between Goodyear and Hoosier. The stiff competition between both tire manufacturers resulted in multiple crashes and injuries due to tire failures, as both Goodyear and Hoosier rushed production of their tires just to one-up each other.
Yeah how come the melling Ford in those years was so much faster then the field? Being an old fart I remember the elliotts having a problem with Ford because they refused to help the other Ford teams they were the only one. There were times in the years that the Thunderbird dominated this Bill Elliott was 3 seconds faster than all the fordss LOL Because we all know his brother was a damn cheat, but if you ain't cheating you ain't trying😄
You should do Championship Season: Bill Rexford 1950. Rexford is the most forgotten championship in nascar history. He only got 1 win in 1950 and beat fireball Roberts to win the title. That 1 win was Rexford’s only Cup Series win.
f1r3m4nN1nj4 22 yeah but there are quite a few pictures of rexford but the videos don’t have to be rexford It could just be footage from the 1950 season
Two fun facts/statistics about Elliott's 1988 Championship season: 1. Within his 22 Top 10 finishes of the season ... at one point, 16 of his 22 Top 10 finishes were consecutive. 2. Elliott in 1988, did not have a finish all season outside of the Top 20. He finished Top 20 in all 29 races that season. Thats consistency.
Bill Elliott should’ve went to Robert Yates racing after the 1994 season. I can remember Dale Earnhardt trying to talk Bill Elliott out of being a driver owner. Bill Elliott made more money than any driver between 1995-2000 because he owned his team but it cost him probably 20-30 more wins and maybe one more championship.
I've been a Bill Elliott fan since I started following NASCAR back in 83 and he will always be my idol. Helluva man, humble but can get it done and knows how to be the best. Thank you for the post and go Bill and go Chase!! Get #2+

My only memories of Bill Elliott were the times I caught NASCAR on ESPN during my high school years. Maybe it was fortuitous timing, but _every single time_ I saw him, he was rolling like Usain Bolt over a bunch of 10-year-olds with asthma. Never a slipup, never a mechanical failure, never a bad line. The only drama was whether he'd win by a colossal margin or an unbelievably ginormous ultra mega colossal margin. In the years since, I've come to realize that he was a victim of his own success. The fact that he so utterly ruled the big tracks...your Daytonas, your Talladegas, your Michigans...made his comparatively lackluster results on the small tracks all the more glaring. But he was amazingly popular, and although he'd never claimed the ultimate prize, he'd come close a few times, and so the spotlight remained on him. You could tell this was someone the sports media desperately _wanted_ him to become a true superstar, to reach the same echelon as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or Michael Schumacher or Mario Lemieux or Evander Holyfield, despite the fact that he never really was _that_ good.
