that was my comment 😀 Anyway returning to skating has been the best thing for me mentally and overall happiness. I look forward to my weekly session. Like you said I've found the younger skaters I've met have respect for me coming back at my age. I just realized in my original comment I meant to say I can't do all the tricks I used to . I'm just having fun
I got seriously back into skating during the pandemic. I have a little set up at the basketball court and go to the park once in a while. On Sundays, me and another dad have a basketball court skate sesh. I'm 50. As long as I can still ollie, it will stay fun (though my hip joints feel sore the next day). I set up little microspots around my neighborhood, a curb or a planter rail-slide bar. I started skating before skateparks were really a thing, so, I prefer being in the street.
I got massively depressed in my late 30's, so I started skating again! I am now nearly 49, and I hit Burnside almost every weekend... the park has become a sacred temple, a group therapy source, and an outdoor gym. My mind and body have benefitted greatly from putting myself back into skateboarding, and I have become a member of Burnside's extended family (which is a rad feeling!!). If you are feeling "old" or "tired", skateboarding will give you youth and energy in both mind and body.... If you are feeling "sad" or "useless", skateboarding will give you joy and purpose... If you are feeling "alone" or "different", your fellow skateboarders will give you someone to connect with, relate to, and be encouraged by, no matter your differences.... Stop making excuses, and get amongst it!!! You're gonna die one day, you may as well have the best time possible.....
skateboarding is beautiful man I broke my ankle and lost pretty much all of my flip tricks since I didn't skate for a year or so but I'm back on the board and it's still fun I can at least ollie and the tricks are coming back a little bit
I'm 43. I started at 42. Had to quit because I was recently diagnosed with gout. The shit is so weak. I even set up by first board last year. Fucking getting old.
keep up the great vids man!
