It's a lot closer to the original vision for fights in the series. There's tactics here. The hand signs and techniques were always present. But the cleverness, the planning, the plan executions. The swagger.... This fight in early Naruto really nailed it.
Yup taking into consideration their lineage, they already had considerable abilities and potential. This is a problem with most shonen series,where they don't really put it in perspective that the heroes and villains are just on another level to begin with. Go rewatch the Ninja war and note the power level of the multiple ninjas who are just background npc characters. That's the baseline power, it's just that the actual characters we see more about are all elite level/greatest clan/Kage level.
I know the surprise was supposed to be the fireball, but it seemed so easily evaded, that I think the close combat should've been the final trap instead.
It started off fairly grounded with a good mix of close combat and other techniques but became who had bigger megazords, Biju fights and flashy eyes real quick it was so uncreative but when they did have more grounded combat sh*t was peak
He eventually did... The hard way. But the point of the technique wasn't in trying to get out. It was that your head was vulnerable to getting lopped off.
