I used to have a hard time going through this part too! Sometimes I would literally glitch through the wall, get stuck on the floor, and then drown! Argh, so frustrating!

Golly I played this on the Megadrive. I remember playing the first sonic on my brother's Mastersystem. For this I rented the game from Blockbuster video. It had a little slot on top of the cartridge that you can stick the first game to get a special level or something. My childhood. Or rather teenage years.
I'm 25, played a lot of games and heard a lot of music in my life, but I still say that the original Sonic games for the Genesis, especially Sonic 3, have some of the greatest music ever composed.
I fail this zone 13 times JUST to listen to the beat. So Everytime the boss came, I let it kill me. then I got bored of that ONE act in that ONE zone. So I looked it up on Utube and got this now I could advance in levels and still look back on those tune. thanks Utube for not allowing for me to only go through only 2 zones.(Yes I did beat the game a week later😁😁😁)

why the hell you all posting that this zone is hard? it was easy. and fun as hell. the hardest part is the moving wall in act 2. (i've been playing these games since release. at one point played them constantly, and goddamn good at it.)
Easy, yes, but fun? ...Meh, only Act 1 was fun tbh.... Act 2's start was great, but after that, all the water challenge was replaced with automation instead.
Hydrocity is probably the only water level anyone likes from the old Sonic the Hedgehog games, mostly because there are plenty of places out of the water as well as under it, you now have a shield that makes being underwater a lot less hassle, and most importantly unlike other water stages like Labyrinth Zone Hydrocity is about speed & platforming rather than moving slowly trying to get to the surface while spending every 15 seconds panicking for an air bubble.
Not disturbing, just giving you a fact. MJ helped compose a few songs for Sonic 3, but everyone always seems to forget the other 9 composers and rarely thanks them. Instead of thanking MJ for inspiration, why not thank the actual composer to this great piece?
this song takes me back to my childhood not to sonic 3, but to watching a tv show that had similar music showing and describing things made in a factory
This is by far the best water stage in any Sonic game (barring Colors) simply because of the music, the water slides, and being the first time Sonic could RUN ON WATER!

You click mania mode and hear this. You make a save select as sonic and tails, and get to the first level. You get to here, but this is just a cutscene. No level. You’re confused, but watch the cutscene. You’re now in green hill, being emotional by the nostalgia that hit you, it’s almost like you’re really playing sonic 1 again. But you carry on with the level. You beat Act 1 with a mini boss that was a little hard. On to act 2. You’re now on act 2, the song is different. And the layout is nothing like act 2 of sonic 1 green hill zone. You beat the level with a boss you recognize, you get to a cutscene. Then you teleport to another place. You’re in here now. Wondering why you didn’t go to marble zone. But you roll with it. You beat act 1. Then you’re in act 2. You’re in this zone now. Yet again nothing like the original act 2. But you go on, now you’re in the boss and it’s familiar to you, is this Dr robotniks mean bean machine? In fact it is, you beat eggman and get to the next level. You’re in a level you never seen before, you thought this would be marble garden, but you eventually beat act 1. You’re in act 2 and love this. You’re enjoying the song and the level and you’re at the boss, you beat it and move on to the next level. You’re in flying battery, you really liked this zone when you were playing sonic 3, because of the song and the level design. You beat act 1 and see what’s awaits you in act 2. You’re now in act 2, and sounds normal, the level is different and the boss is actually pretty hard. You beat the boss and go on to the next level. Oh look. It’s a new level, you get through the level while confused because you never played this before. But you beat the boss and get to act 2. You enjoy this and it reminds you of mushroom hill. You beat it and get on to the next level. You’re in stardust speedway. Although you never owned a sega cd, you know this level pretty faintly. The level is very calm and you get to act 2 in no time. You’re in act 2, enjoying this song and loving it. You’re getting to the end of the level very quickly until metal sonic awaits you. You knew this was coming because of the cutscene in press garden. So you’re not that suprised. But you beat the boss. It was a very hard and long one. But you got through it. You’re in hydrocity, wondering when this will be over. But you finish the level and get to act 2.
@maldos22 I'm actually right dude. In the Sonic 3 Mini boss song, the Knuckles drums are clocked in between the voice sampling never actually being heard at the same time because they're both sharing the 6th digital sampling channel while that thumping noise is coming from one of the other 5 FM channels to compensate for the absence of the official Sonic 3 drums because of MJ's voice sampling using up the space.
I'm 30 now and was 10 back then but I STILL love the Sega Mega Drive, still love the Sonic the Hedgehog games and still love the music for all the levels. So nostalgic and catchy! Thanks for sharing this little piece of happiness :-D

@NacodaLupine I wasn't denying MJ's involvment in this soundtrack, I said this actual song was not composed by him or his people. It's definitely composed by Jun Senoue and the rest of the SEGA sound team helping out. The drums are the key sound in learning which tracks were from MJ and which ones were not. These drums were only put in the replaced music tracks after they got rid of MJ.

It’s 1997 and Sonic Mania is now in stores, you get it on the genesis and you start up the game, you get past the title screen and then you hear this. You click mania mode and hear this. You make a save select as sonic and tails, and get to the first level. You get to here, but this is just a cutscene. No level. You’re confused, but watch the cutscene. You’re now in green hill, being emotional by the nostalgia that hit you, it’s almost like you’re really playing sonic 1 again. But you carry on with the level. You beat Act 1 with a mini boss that was a little hard. On to act 2. You’re now on act 2, the song is different. And the layout is nothing like act 2 of sonic 1 green hill zone. You beat the level with a boss you recognize, you get to a cutscene. Then you teleport to another place. You’re in here now. Wondering why you didn’t go to marble zone. But you roll with it. You beat act 1. Then you’re in act 2. You’re in this zone now. Yet again nothing like the original act 2. But you go on, now you’re in the boss and it’s familiar to you, is this Dr robotniks mean bean machine? In fact it is, you beat eggman and get to the next level. You’re in a level you never seen before, you thought this would be marble garden, but you eventually beat act 1. You’re in act 2 and love this. You’re enjoying the song and the level and you’re at the boss, you beat it and move on to the next level. You’re in flying battery, you really liked this zone when you were playing sonic 3, because of the song and the level design. You beat act 1 and see what’s awaits you in act 2. You’re now in act 2, and sounds normal, the level is different and the boss is actually pretty hard. You beat the boss and go on to the next level. Oh look. It’s a new level, you get through the level while confused because you never played this before. But you beat the boss and get to act 2. You enjoy this and it reminds you of mushroom hill. You beat it and get on to the next level. You’re in stardust speedway. Although you never owned a sega cd, you know this level pretty faintly. The level is very calm and you get to act 2 in no time. You’re in act 2, enjoying this song and loving it. You’re getting to the end of the level very quickly until metal sonic awaits you. You knew this was coming because of the cutscene in press garden. So you’re not that suprised. But you beat the boss. It was a very hard and long one. But you got through it. You’re in hydrocity, wondering when this will be over. But you finish the level and get to act 2.

Every time I listen to Another Part of Me, I can't help but think of this level in Sonic 3
@maldos22 I'm actually right dude. In the Sonic 3 Mini boss song, the Knuckles drums are clocked in between the voice sampling never actually being heard at the same time because they're both sharing the 6th digital sampling channel while that thumping noise is coming from one of the other 5 FM channels to compensate for the absence of the official Sonic 3 drums because of MJ's voice sampling using up the space.

I'm 30 now and was 10 back then but I STILL love the Sega Mega Drive, still love the Sonic the Hedgehog games and still love the music for all the levels. So nostalgic and catchy! Thanks for sharing this little piece of happiness :-D

@NacodaLupine I wasn't denying MJ's involvment in this soundtrack, I said this actual song was not composed by him or his people. It's definitely composed by Jun Senoue and the rest of the SEGA sound team helping out. The drums are the key sound in learning which tracks were from MJ and which ones were not. These drums were only put in the replaced music tracks after they got rid of MJ.
