- A Toyota Master Diagnostic Technician and an Automotive Engineer with Toyota Experience answer a much debated question. Are Toyotas Made in Japan better than Toyotas made elsewhere?
In this much requested and debated video myself along side my good friend David share the truth about Japan Vs. elsewhere built Toyota's.
The information in this video comes straight for combined 4 decades of experience between myself and David. This is the truth that settles this matter once and for all.
These are not speculations or opinions. These are facts from the ground and I hope it settles the matter for you.
We'll first clarify and identify the types of problems new cars can have. Starting with design\engineering issues.
Then we'll dive into part supplier issues including a clarification if Toyota's made in Japan have parts that are 100% made in Japan and some more interesting information about Toyota part supply network.
Lastly we will dig into the main subject. Are they are made better in Japan and the simple answer is Yes and No. I hope you find this video helpful.

Japanese workers are more prideful, organized, and meticulous in their jobs and are less prone to make mistakes. Not saying its built better parts wised/engineer wised, but its built better in the assembly line
Exactly and is where these guys are missing the point, they are not thinking about the front line workers in the trenches and build them from start to finish
I agree with what you have said here. I’m retired from the automotive business. Mostly a GM background. The assembly line and workers play a critical roll in the reliability of your vehicle. We have Toyota’s. Our 2010 Corolla ( Japan made) has 150k with zero problems. The 2013 Highlander with 111k ( US assembled) has been ok. Some minor inconveniences. Japan being a homogeneous society has a distinct advantage over the U.S with our diversity. You can’t instill a work ethic in everyone.

@@gordondonahue4810 Diversity has less to nothing to do with it. Work ethics is a particularly interesting subject since Toyota is operating and manufacturing globally.
With kai’zen and the Toyota Way, Toyota as a company is actually doing what Mintzberg just brushed up against in his book Structure In Five | Designing Effective Organizations: namely the visionary or rather missionary organizations. Being Swedish I am familiar with this concept through IKEA.
With that said being a missionary organization, based on certain values, diversity is not a problem at all as long as the workers commit to the values and the mission at heart - kai’zen.
Labor unions and fairness are also important. Productivity is not just assembling cars and trucks faster. They also need to be correctly assembled.
Workers at the assembly line could at any time pull the string and put a stop to the assembly line to correct problems. I’ve heard stories from the USA within Toyota and Honda assembling facilities who do not dare to pull the string. Grown men and women in diapers because they can’t go to the toilet. I think that together with low payment could give cause to fear and resentment which easily could translate into poorer outcome.
One of the manufacturing facilities in the world who has the lowest fail percentage is actually in Turkey. One of my old Toyotas was assembled there. It was a very good car. I bought it used and drove it without larger repairs for five years.
@@yunus_aros “as along as the workers commit to the values and the mission at heart -Kai-zen” This is much easier for a Japanese worker who is raised in a highly structured and disciplined society as Japan. When I go to buy another Toyota I will be looking for a Japanese assembled vehicle if it’s available.

In don't understand where ppl in this country are getting this Biased ideas from? Toyota taco made in Mexico blah blah blah.. they consume too much propaganda. Way B4 the Taco was send to the markets here in the USA, The Hilux was a success in whole Latinoamérica, they are still being built in Argentina along with the original land cruiser Jeep made in Brazil Colombia and Venezuela. Back in the days Where there where no pave roads, only muddy jungle trails for example
To extract the coffee beans for you favorite drink here in the US. Not a single American made pick up was able to endure the hardship, only Japanese pick ups, like Isuzu, Toyota, Hino trucks, Nissan, Daihatsu etc and maybe one of two Russian made UAZ. Heck those very old BJ40 land cruiser from Colombia are imported now in the US and sold for a lot of money, and those were workhorses in the Country side and still running like a Champ!! 🤣🤣🤣 Toyota is literally in all the continents that also include the Antártic continent thanks to the Argentinian Army where they use it and have them at their own stations 🤣

This is a pre-cursor that Japan will lose more manufacturing jobs due to aging population and cheap Labor elsewhere. Made in Japan used to mean Made to Perfection. Toyota PR is evolving.
When you pay a man less and expect more, the quality eventually suffers, software is no exception. As long as Toyota is on top of the quality rank, they care less and less on how low the bar drops.
@@retiredrebel time for them to reform and start accepting more inmigrants and changes in their laws so young ppl can have a decent life with kids and not the low quality of live with heavy expenses but that is just my opinion who knows if Japan will put they proudnes to the side and think about their future before they disappear!
Hi how are you? Please tell me 1 thing, I keep reading and hearing that modern Toyotas are not as durable and reliable like they were in the 90s and early 2000s and that modern Toyotas will no longer last 400,000 /or 500,000. Why did Toyotas let the quality slide, I heard the new Toyota vehicles especially 4 cylinder engines will no longer make it much past 200,000 and that gone are they days of keeping Toyota forever without many problems. Car prices are more than in the past so why is the quality no longer there like before?
Over the past 30 years I’ve owned many Japanese cars and I’ve noticed that cars assembled in Japan are a superior level of finish and reliability.

Old American made stuff was good... Today it is no longer the greatest
I would add that, even in Japan, certain models were exceptionally prone to rust issues in that same period. I've also had 80s to the present models of both USDM and JDM models of Toyotas (and other imported marques); while they were and are Mechanically superior, all of them have been rust magnets in the areas of the world that suffer through adverse weather.
My 86 f150 runs like a champ even with it's little 5.0 HO out of a mustang running on the truck icm. My 01 ranger has a lot of quarks but it runs fine
When I was in Germany traveling around, I talked to all the cab drivers and most told me that the Prius's were by far the most trouble free cab cars. Those Mercedes's, and BMW's are always in the shop for something.
Bmw need to just let japan 🇯🇵 fix their engineering problems otherwise just shut down their fuckin plants 🏭 cause its just a buncha complicated plastic bullshit at this point with bmw & mercedes

Japanese are practical, if you're poor buy a Japanese car, if you can afford it buy import cars. And to people living outside of Japan, Japanese car aren't more reliable.
At the end of the day, I would still buy a Toyota made in Japan if I have a choice.

Okay, I've owned 5 different Japanese made cars, a '78 280z, '96 4runner, '00 Trooper, '04 TSX and now a 2018 4runner. The Datsun died of rust(my fault for too many trips to the beach), the old 4runner died on a patch of black ice, and the Acura had to be sold because it was too small for my family. The only one that died unnecessarily was the Isuzu Trooper. I got rid of it not because the engine died but because the transmission made by GM went out. When I bought the new 4runner that I drive now I was also considering a Tacoma. If you're having trouble deciding for yourself take a trip to Mexico and then a go to Japan (I've been to both) . Japanese culture eats sleeps and breaths pride in workmanship. Just look what they do with Wagyu beef. It's hard to pass on a car that's made in a country where everyone sees themselves as a measure of what they produce.
True, even their batteries are awesome, my 05 4runner sport got the Panasonic battery until it got weak in 2019 because i only drove less than 2 miles to grocery. That's 14 years of Chicago cold. Still got my 4runner, 214k miles atm.
Agreed to both comments here, after having Toyotas and Lexus most of my “driving” life, I was shocked to hear batteries only are expected to last 5 years, as mine typically last double that (yuasa/Panasonics)

I was hesitant to buy my '98 LS400 because so many of the components were different from earlier models. But I really had to get rid of my MB and took the chance. It's still my daily driver.
All were made on the same Japanese assembly line by then specially-selected workers who viewed it as an honor to build the LS's. Can't imagine how well-built the Centuries must be.
I have a 98 LS too! 292k still running strong. Getting ready to pick up a low mileage 2012 Es350.

On the SMA channel one guy commented that he had toured both the GM (or maybe Ford, it was a while ago) and the Toyota truck assembly plants. He saw that in the GM plant when a truck had a defect they had a special team come in and fix it and keep it going on the line. In the Toyota plant the truck was yanked off the line and sent back to where the defect came from so it could be redone. From there it continue down the line. He stated that he was astounded at the emphasis Toyota put on quality. I'm not surprised my 2007 Tundra is still going strong with no leaks anywhere. I stopped buying US cars a long time ago.
A few years back, I had a layover at an airport in Texas and spoke with an automotive engineer. He said that the difference between Toyota/Honda and the Big 3 was the philosophy. If there was a defect in preproduction, the Big 3 would do a cost analysis and make a decision to keep a part that had potential for failure. Because the of the cost of modifying or replacement later under warranty or issue a TSB. Where as Toyota and Honda would redesign the part and integrate the cost into the vehicle in order to insure the part would not fail or lessen the chances of failure. Basically, Toyota/Honda was based on quality versus the Big 3 was based on quantity.
Yes I saw on another channel that Toyota would stop production on assembly line 2000 times in a week when they saw something to be fixed or improved. Compared to Ford which only stopped their production 2 times in a week in order to pump out as many vehicles as possible.
Antonio, I wish I could say you are wrong, but you are not. I traded a Jeep Grand Cherokee for a Japanese built Lexus rx350. A similar cost between the two .
The Lexus hasn't been perfect, but after working on both vehicles the Toyota has a higher build quality by a huge margin.

Japanese built cars are superior. I've owned Acura, Hondas and Lexus. The Japanese manufactured cars are better. Once, my brother and I both had Honda Accords. Mine was made in Japan, his made in Ohio. While they looked the same, the fit and finish were different. Even the sound of the door when it closed was different.

I agree. My father had a 2008 Accord that was made in Japan. The 2015 Accord I had just never seemed as rock solid as his 2008. Unfortunately a careless driver in a minivan hit us and totaled his car.
Japan built vehicles are a little better because they do it upto the minute details and up to the last micron. Perhaps the workmanship spirit and fine details of the builders translates to the final product.
Although the Honda's and Toyota's (Mazda and Subaru to some extent) either from countries and/or from USA, are still far better made than most American, European and Chinese Cars.
Toyotas are maintenance budget friendly and easy to take care of, plus they do provide respectable after sales support and assistance.

Fit and finish or interior are one thing, but how about the mechanical parts?…I would still say made in Japan is the number 1, no matter what anybody says.
They are very similar as the video said. Everyone has an opinion. From what I see on the field they’re the same.

I think it is about the people who build the cars, how their behaviour and attitude, mostly Japanese are more dedicated to their work for life.

I worked at TMMI building Sienna and Highlander. The biggest change I have seen is Toyota got rid of Aerotek and started their own variable work force. They hire many unqualified workers that can't handle the rigorous work involved especially in Assembly. They go on restriction and continue to pay them to sweep the floor at full pay and benefits. Then they wonder why the capable worker quits. They overwork the productive team member because management constantly have to help the incompetent worker.
Toyota also has a problem finding qualified team members to promote. They promote people that don't listen and never promote quality circles to figure out the problems with the processes. Reality is Team leaders and Group leaders don't want the "Hear it"
I also specifically chose a 2020 RAV4 Katashiki that I knew comes from Japan. The main thing is the Japanese suppliers make the core parts better.
I only replace my parts with OEM parts for my 88. 33 years later it has not proven me wrong!

When I bought mine in July I could’ve gotten one that day that was made in the US or I could wait two weeks for the one coming from Japan. I waited two weeks. 2022 Corolla hybrid.
Congratulations on choosing the Hybrid as AMD recently recommended. All Corolla Hybrids sold in our market are currently made in Japan.

@@WaRDawG19D If I could fit inside this generation of Corolla, my first choice would be the hatch with a manual. In other markets the Corolla sedan, hatch and wagon come in automatic, manual and Hybrid. Soon there will be a Corolla Cross, from a brand new factory, to add further choices to our mix. I believe the Cross Hybrid should be here next year.
@@rightlanehog3151 I will have to look into that when I need a new one I got the sedan not the hatchback. Great car I’m averaging 58 miles to the gallon in Portland Oregon. I’ve seen a little bit about the new crossover. When I see the Toyota Corolla crossover hybrid with all wheel drive. I will buy it.

I own two Toyota Corollas, both 2016 model, one built in Japan the other built in Thailand. They drive totally different. The quality of paint and interiors are very different. The made in Japan one had most of the visible parts including the battery, windows and tyres all made in Japan. I think the manufacturing standards are the same but the suppliers and parts are different.
Standards can be the same but it doesn't mean Thai people will make vehicles with the same care for quality as Japanese

I have always bought all of my Toyota 100% built in Japan and alw AZ ysxwill do so in the future. Never had any problems at all with the cars built in Japan. To me, the Toyota cars that are built in Japan ARE THE BEST ONES...PERIOD!!!

I bought a brand new 2019 Rav4 limited made in Japan and I’m loving it with no problems 👍🏼
I have Canadian rav 4 assembly quality is not that great. Side mirrors are shaking sometimes extra noise in cabin. Plastic parts not mounted really good. After 4 runner limited which assembled in Japan it’s bad assembly quality. Otherwise still same power train which works fine. It’s still Toyota. American build Honda Civic in my second vehicle have really good assembly quality. Really good- Completely satisfied.

Today I bought a Brand New 2022 Toyota Rav4 LE AWD Hybrid in Silver......and yes it's build in Japan. It was about $32k + tax & fees. Had to pay sticker due to shortages. The fit and finish and overall quantity is way better than American build Toyotas. Sad reality but true. The manager at the Toyota dealership said he only sells Japanese build Toyotas to his friends and family members.....I guess he knows something the general public doesn't know. Hope this helps.

Buying a vehicle actually mfgd in Japan is just playing the odds/stacking the deck in your favor.. People who have a good system for manufacturing quality, continuously improved products, and who seriously care about the final product will TEND to do better. Which shouldn't be a surprise.
Except the systems are identical at Toyota, whether it be in Japan, Indonesia, Canada, US, Russia, Thailand or anywhere else. Almost everything is automated.

When I bought my new '18 RAV4 XLE hybrid the sales person said the hybrid RAV4s all came from Japan and he thought that starting with the '19 model year they also would be made outside of Japan. Can I ask this question? When Toyota started to make hybrids why were they all made in Japan and had to be shipped all over the world. There is a reason they only wanted them made in Japan. Think about that. My RAV4 is perfect.
As a logistic professional with 37 years in the automotive sub supplier
Toyota’s built in Japan used parts manufactured within a few miles of the plant
The shorter the the supply chain the easier it is to control quality.
Toyota manufacturing plants outside of Japan may utilize suppliers thousands of mile from assemble.
A much greater logistic challenge.
Avoid American Junk, F-35 is a good example , $100 million jet fighter horrible Junk, or scams?

Yes. 4runner , landcruser , rav4 hybrid all made in Japan and ranked the most reliable vehicles
I'm glad toyota representatives are honestly engaging with their customers and potential customers . You guys have won me over to the brand you represent. I was a nissan loyalists before. Could you guys discuss the JDM import market, like the ordinary vehicles? Could you guys cover cars like the toyota blade 3.5 v6 corolla and the toyota Estima 3.5 v6 van, FWD layouts and the Toyota Majesta V8 luxury sedan. This is because the private vehicle import market has opened up here in Australia. You guys forgot the toyota factory in South Africa its been there since the 70s and has had a huge motorsports history in racing in South Africa like TRD South Africa.

While I was working in Peru about 6 years ago I had the opportunity to drive and analyze Toyota Hilux 4x4 pickups. The company had 35 units. Some were made in Japan, some were made in Thailand, and some we had some made in Argentina. By far the Japan build PU was the best. The Thailand built PU was a close second to the Japanese built truck. The Agentine built Hilux PU was far inferior to the 2 others.

Say what you want, my Japanese made 2001 Toyota is still running strong while my friends have ran through multiple copies of the made in Canada versions.
Ditto for my friends who bought made in Japan Subarus.
They went multiple Canadian versions because it wasn't maintained yours sounds like it was
I need to knock on wood. My recent 2009 RX purchase had it made in Canada and having purchased with 81k miles on it in June I can only find 2 faults. The very well known V6 cold engine knock and some type of rattle underneath that my 2008 Rav4 has made in Japan. Sounds like a heat shield but isn't since my 08 was taken off. Other than that the RX runs really well. Actually minus those two things and an annoying rattle in the a pillar on the passenger side it really drives and runs like new. I however don't like the shifting logic of the 5 speed as compared to that of the anemic 4 speed of my Rav however.

We have a 2017 rav4 se. jtm vin. We looked around for almost 2 months for a j vin here in the southeast. Most of the ones I saw were Canadian (2) vin.

All 5 generations of the Toyota Avalon are built in Kentucky, and are among the most reliable cars on the road. I own a 4th generation Avalon, and one of my former professors still uses his 1st gen Avalon as his daily driver. *Update and correction* His 1997 1st gen has over 425,000 miles and counting! He recently bought a 3rd gen because the 1st gen is getting tired, but he is still using it as a daily driver.
We own a Corolla that was built in Japan and an avalon. They are both very impressive vehicles despite the downplay they seem to get. When I traded for the Corolla I thought, just a Corolla, but was left very impressed with all the inputs (literally all of them) and the quirks are nothing compared to my prior vehicle.
These cars are the best possible option as long as you don't need awd or extra space

I have a 2nd gen. I've heard of about 4 different ones with over 400k.
One argument is that Japanese workers simply have better work ethics and are less likely to make mistakes or let imperfections slide, and that leads to better quality products.
Toyota's built in Japan are in a different level of build and quality.

All of the Toyotas, 2009/2011/2013 Sienna Limited AWDs and 2021 Sequoia TRD Pro, that we have purchased were all manufactured in Princeton, Indiana and have held up, splendidly.
I work at a Lexus dealership and have over 6 years. I am Master Certified now as well. I will say, we do quite a few more timing cover reseals on the Canadian built Lexus vs the Japanese ones. Not sure if that's because there are more Canadian ones on the road or what.
Toyota ships engines and transmissions fully assembled to their Canadian factories. They don't let non-Japanese assemble the engines and transmissions, only the rest of the car.

@@18_rabbit Sorry, my info was either old or wrong. They manufacture engines outside of Japan. As for whether or not robotically assembled, it appears that they are still assembled by people, though the castings are CNC machined (which is a type of robot).

J VIN vehicles are the best vehicles made. Japanese culture, assembly line procedures, attention to detail and work ethic make these vehicles the best in the world 🌎.
I was a GM nut until about 2010. Since then, I only buy used Toyotas (preferably ones with a good maintenance history). I have had a '94 ES300, an '01 Japanese Camry, an '02 Canadian V6 Solara , an '02 US Avalon, an '03 US Camry V6 and helped my kids find 2 different US 1998 Camrys. With over 150k US miles on all of them, other than issues with CD changers, not one has required anything other than timing belts, tires and brakes and light bulbs (all of which are normal life expectancy). I change oil regularly, flush brake fluid, coolant bi-annually along with a drain-and-fill of the transmission. They are all wonderfully reliable vehicles. I very much agree with your assessment of the need for just a normal amount of regular care to keep them running for a very long time and I find that maintenance is pretty easy for a DIYer like myself. I had a 2020 Camry hybrid made in Kentucky, I was so happy with it that I traded it for a better well equipped 22 Camry hybrid made in Kentucky. An absolutely flawless piece of machinery!
I did the same with my wife...i married her in 1999 and I traded her for a much better younger model on 2010
I have a 2005 RAV4 with current 321,200k miles, and it was made in Japan. For the past 17 yrs of owning the vehicle, I had the mentality of thinking it's better to buy a vehicle made in Japan. Thanks to you and David for clarifying the myth of the difference between cars made in Japan / North America / Canada. I also own a 2006 Highlander LTD made in Japan. I guess I was lucky to purchase both vehicles that were made in Japan without customization. I like to watch all of your great videos. It would be great if you could make somewhat detailed steps videos showing DIY'ers how to repair or replace parts.
Update on the '05 RAV4 it is currently at 324,200k+ miles. The engine starting to get a little more noisy. Most likely the piston rings are wearing out or the Timing Chain guide is worn out. I might open up the TC cover and inspect in the summer with possibility of replacing some minor parts.

I love your channel and content. I find myself watching it a lot. I was with Toyota for 10 years and with Lexus currently 21 years. I have owned mostly Toyota trucks built in Japan my latest one is American made. I think the quality of fit and finish is definitely different and better in the Japanese model. The plastic seems to stay more pliable as it ages. The workmanship I think is also maybe just a little bit better in Japan I hate to say that. Most everything is just cosmetic as you say. But if I had a choice I would rather purchase a Japanese built. My 94 truck had 250,000 miles on it when I sold it looked like new when I got rid of it my 2008 Toyota truck Tacoma still looks good with 140 thousand miles. Some thing as simple as a seat back the springs in the lumbar were all broken. I would think that they would be the same quality as my 94 that had no problem it’s not like we reinventing the wheel. The nice thing is take care of the car and it will last you I recently redid the driver seat and feel like the car is almost new. Keep up the good content I really enjoy your shows.

I was a Toyota Tech in Canada for over 14 years. Yes I’m a big Toyota fan.
However Toyota isn’t perfect.
I can tell you from personal experience that when the Corolla was being manufactured at the Cambridge Ontario plant the parts were very substandard from the Japanese ones. For example the Japanese models used “ Tokico struts , the North American production used Munro. In these cold climates the Munro leaked like a sieve. Great for us, we made a bundle under warranty. Might be different today though.

@@paulwood9043 absolutely, I recommend a RAV4 as it has good traction in winter and has some height making it easy to get in and out of.
The country that has the highest discipline has the best workers and the best quality control. I had a brand new truck built in Mexico and the Mexican technicians in LA, found a lot of bolts lose at the electrical box mounted on the firewall.
I think they built my truck on Sunday and were drinking Tequila.
When it comes to cars and a lot of other things Japanese have the highest quality.

Love the channel. Keep up the good work. Got some good insights today. I still think that the Toyota cars and other manufacturer cars made in Japan are a little bit better particularly in fit and finish. This opinion is based on having owned Toyota cars made in Japan and North America.
I've a 1998 Tacoma assembled at the NUMI Plant in Fremont, CA. Purchased off the lot with 19 miles on the odometer in November 1997, it now has over a quarter million miles on it; it's been meticulously maintained and is solidly dependable. I've got a 2019 RAV4 Hybrid parked next to it in the garage, made in Japan. Beautiful vehicle now that I've had Toyota replace the original fuel tank and fuel tank sending unit and gasket.
I've owned four Toyotas: three made in the US, one in Japan. The best one I've owned (so far) was a 2003 Camry made in Georgetown, Kentucky. Only a few relatively minor issues surfaced with that car and that was after buying it used at about 90,000 miles. My present one is a Corolla hybrid, made in Japan. So far so good. I'm meticulously maintaining it so I hope it holds up. The other two had a major issue apiece. One had a defective U660e transmission in a 2007 Camry that cost me more than $6,000 to replace (with a Toyota reman with the newer part number). I experienced defective piston rings in its 1ZZ-FE engine in a 2002 Corolla, which was supplied by an engine maker in Buffalo, West Virginia.The car itself was assembled at the now defunct plant in Fremont, California. I later learned that these engines were famous for that at the time but did not correct the problem until the 2003 model year. Perhaps it would have fared better if I were the first owner and maintained it like it was supposed to. Hard to say. It's certainly a mixed bag to be sure.
Makes sense. Honestly, I think within Toyota, the model is the biggest factor. Camrys are basically Toyota's flagship. They ensure a higher standard than they do for, say, the Yaris.

i have read that the 4.7 in the 4runner which is made in Japan is built with a better crank shaft than the 4.7 built in San Antonio. love your videos.
Thank you for this video. For what it's worth my story. I purchased a 21 Rav4 LE built in Canada. I performed my first oil change at 5k and found that the oil filter was cross threaded from the factory. I had to replace the union ($11) and it was a 2 second job. Luckily this is so far the only issue I've had. The real question isn't there supposed to be some sort of torque clutch on the machine spinning these things on? Anyway I am overall insanely happy with my Rav4.

It's possibly because the video foxes primarily on the content going into the cars not the way the parts are attached. And 1% difference mentioned is on the Japan side and the fit and finish mentioned by both is on the Japan side but doesn't effect reliably. But there is a difference they said it

fizout You're not comprehending the words here that you just stated yourself quality and reliability, these have nothing to do with your paint being uneven or the space between your door and your hood being uneven that does not stop your hood from working or your door from working or your paint from working. And when they did talk about fit and finish and aesthetic's that do not affect reliability and quality they both admitted there is a difference but restated those slight differences do not affect reliability. And listen I like both these guys but you understand they are biased correct one works for Toyota and one has deep roots with Toyota do you think it's that to their advantage to say yeah I don't buy any cars made by my boss that are built in Canada the states or Mexico I mean let's keep reality here and our focus. The mouse doesn't ask the cat whether it's safe to come out of the hole. Be a critical thinker, it will make your life much easier. I can find you many experts as well that will tell you there's definitely a difference matter fact both of these guys admitted there is a difference but they glossed over it and said it was small and did not affect reliability most of the time.
Also, I like both these guys on the video, but ultimately, David, for example, will not be keeping his 2020/2021 cars for as long as we will (due to the nature of his job), so time will tell at the 10yr mark!!
Chris Kaye that's a very good point. Ten or twenty years is far different measurement than looking at them when they come off the production line.
I have had a 2006 Avalon XL since 2010. The only problems that I've had is that an O2 sensor go bad and the tension bar that "pops" the trunk fell down, so I have to manually raise my trunk up and down, that's it. Car runs like new and looks very good still as well. Toyota really is #1 in quality.

Enjoying your videos, regardless if I own Toyota or any other car :) I used to have 1995 Corolla which was made in Japan and then couple of years later my uncle got a 1997 version of the same car, but his was made in USA. Pretty much similar car, but fit and finish of my Japanese made vehicle, just felt better. I sold my car in 2003 and it is still on the road in my city! As for my uncle's car, he sold it in 2006 to one of our relatives and she drove it until 2019 and then something happened to the transmission(she probably didn't service fluid), so car was sent to junk yard. I own Acura RL and was made in "Sayama Plant, Japan" according to the sticker and the quality is felt throughout the car!
My pops is the first owner of a 06 RL. Damn thing has almost 300,000 miles still drives it. It’s been from the east coast to Cali 3 times. Garage kept and serviced by the same Honda master tech since it was new.

Some good info here for sure. All the same. I think I’ll be sticking with my ‘21 4Runner TRD Pro and ‘20 MX-5 RF. Both solidly made to very right tolerances and with precision. Both made in Japan.
I own a 2000 4RN LIMITED 4WD and 1999 10AE Miata. Eventually I’ll upgrade to newer ones by so far, love them both.
Made in Japan is definitely better because of the pride workmanship culture and near-zero tolerance of letting issues slide. The MX-5 is a great example of a car made exclusively in Japan, and has been since May/June 1989 I believe. The Honda Accord I have now is made in Japan also. Seems like the majority are made in Marysville, Ohio in the case of the Accord.

i can agree on the statements.
here in europe cars mainly come from 4 different factories.
england, france, turkey and czechia.
i had my concerns with the turkey plant as well since turkish people have some, lets say reputation issues around here,
however, after seeing all these nmt vin number cas being almost flawless in terms of warranty problems, its safe to say that they got a good team down in turkey.
on the other hand, cars that come from tmuk seem to have a fair share of production issues.
TMUK plant has had some serious issues in the last few years just trying to stay open. The EU targeted UK auto industry from early on. I think Honda called it quites a few years ago because of the pressure. They're working through it though and have some highly skilled team members. It'll fix itself soon enough.
