Damn 0:46 gives me chills. What an absolutely addicting vocal there. Incredible. What a great choice to hit a high note on "damn". It was the perfect change in melody for the last verse to give full momentum through the end of the song!
This was the first version I saw of Jekyll & Hyde on stage. I went to an early performance in La Mirada, California and really enjoyed it, and then at the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles. I am glad I had nothing to compare it to because it was fresh for me and I was entranced and captivated throughout the performance. I enjoyed the music so much that I purchased the CD and still listen to it from time to time. Beautiful voices and costuming. Wonderful memories for me. C.J.
I just finished Jekyll and Hyde with Virginia Musical Theatre and we actually had Constantine reprise his role as Jekyll/Hyde! He was absolutely stunning to watch and listen too; a true man of talent. I hope he continues his life of performing.
Was doubtful when I went to see it, but the cast blew me away. Yeah, I wish they could have done more with the transformation of Jekyll to Hyde, but considering how fast they had to do the transformations, I don't blame them for what they did. Constantine really helped the change by adjusting his voice. You could hear a distinct difference. I don't have to say that Teal Wicks and Deborah Cox were amazing, but they certainly brought it the night I saw them. Loved it!
I was absolutely blown away last Friday, March 1st in the second row! Constantine was absolutely amazing as both the gentle Dr. Hyde and the blood-thirsty, evil Edward Hyde. His voice was flawless, as was Deborah Cox's. The acting...marvelous, the new musical arrangements...original, the scenery and sets...avantgard! My prediction for 2013 TONY AWARDS...Best Musical and Best Male Performance for Constantine Maroulis! It's a must see musical! Thank you Constantine! You rock!!
Can't wait I met Constantine and Deborah in La Mirada when I saw the show 4 times, I am going again in Feb in Los Angeles. They are very humble and takes time with their fans. They better be nominated for Tonys. Jeff Calhoun is amazing too!
Amen to that! From the first sound that came out of his mouth on Idol in 2005, he has had my complete attention. And Deborah now has a new fan too! As a result of Constantine. Wish they'd record an entire CD together. Wish I could get out West and experience your beautiful theater!
I've followed this show, since I first saw it, "pre-Broadway", in O.C. Then, the show starred Linda Eder, & was dark, sinister, bloody, & INCREDIBLE! (I recall regretting NOT paying for better seats!) Then...A "good" version, few years later, at the Pantages, in L.A. It starred Chuck Wagner, & Andrea Rivette. I saw a FANTASTIC production, at a "Performing Arts High School", in Las Vegas! It was (so far) the truest "re-do" of the original! I'm looking forward to this B-DAY gift, from my Cousin!
This was perfection. I saw it in San Diego and I'm coming to see it tonight at the Pantages! Can't wait!! Hopefully get to meet the stars at the stage door! (:
Watched it last night and I have been having goosebumps all throughout the show. I've seen Jerkyll and Hyde TV special on PBS with David Hasselhoff being Jerkyl / Hyde and After last nights performance by Constantine it made David Hasselhoff looked like an idiot Lmao! I think Constantine is the best Jerkyll/Hyde transformation can be seen when he became Hyde the music becomes ROCK. Rock on Pantages.
oh wow i didn't know that deabroah cox was into broadway i still love her song nobody supose to be here to this day!! i might just go and see the show!
I predict Constantine and Deborah will be Broadway's next First Couple- they were both outstanding - as was the entire production. Exciting and powerful. Counting the days until I can see it again in LA:)
Plus, every time I watch this video, especially the part Jekyll sings 'this is the moment', Constantine reminds me of Leonard from The big bang theory for some reason lol
Ahem, end-game boss battle? I saw that clip of Confrontation, and it looked more to me that he was battling the Devil Himself via that ''wall of flames." and the voice effects they used for Hyde at ''I'll live inside you forever..'' part gave me the CREEPS! You don't hear that on the CD. And you had to wonder where that ''movie'' came from and how ''they'' did it. I'm still pissed (pardon my French) that I won't be seeing this in the theatre at all! I'm a huge CM fan!! *(crying)*
Ummm...... what the bloody hell have I been missing in my life? Oh, that's simple.... THIS!!! Why was I not informed of this magnificence?!? Why did I have to accidently stumble on this through a random advertisement?!? I feel like I've been betrayed! Oh well. I will inform my friends.... unless... they've been hiding this from me.... (O___O) Those monsters!!!
@ A Lawson, coming from a theatre buff's perspective, I would've enjoyed this version. I've seen Jekyll and Hyde 3 times (twice on stage, and the Hasselhoff DVD) and their versions were all the same. Plus they have new features in the show, and a kick-ass American Idol icon in it this time. My kinda show!!
Just saw it in Denver. Every single one of the voices knocked me flat, and though I wasn't exactly a fan of Deborah's acting, the production is a good one. Going in I thought it looked like a bad soap opera, but if I've learned anything it's don't judge a show by its ad.
@PantagesTheatre seriously, have paramedics standing by in Feb! ill be in the first three rows for five nights. Not confident ill stay fully conscious. lmao! Seriously.
me tooooo! I no longer love DH the way I used to. the last I heard him perform a song from JnH, he could hardly breathe and made a complete ass of himself!!! Go Constantine!!!
The way these new singers destroy the songs is painful to hear. Can anybody explain to them that musicals are not their concerts? This is happening in many plays all over Broadway, even in SMASH you can see hat the "Idols" will never stand a chance against the real musical theatre artist.
The thing is, other people that can do it ten times better than Maroulis and Hasslehoff, that's the reason i hated Jonas as Marius in Les Mis and Wilson as Raoul in Phantom, but I've only seen videos from this production, so i cant say much more than that. A lot of people are pissed that they tried to make this into a rock musical, because it's not, then because they hate that part, they hate everything else and need something to bitch about.
I personally believe that Jekyll and Hyde carries some of the most heavy and tricky songs. Yet, Deborah and Constantine make it look way too easy! Not fair! What is the first song? I don't have that on my album...
Maybe that's true, but because you are one thing does not mean you cannot do anything else. You can be able to sing rock-like and sing classically and sing pop-like if you know how/are taught.
I watched it last night, great performance! But there was something wrong with Costantine's microphone (maybe it was too close to his mouth), I could hear some noise like hissing all the time, which spoiled the impression a bit. I was hoping it would be fixed during the show, but no :(
I am grossly unimpressed with Maroulis' Edward Hyde. Letting his hair fall down is not enough of a transformation. Neither his body language nor his voice - both speaking and singing shows any real differentiation with his portrayal as Jekyll. If this is his attempt at an "original interpretation" of Jekyll/Hyde, the man fails to understand the very basis of the character. The goal is to play two diametrically opposed characters in the same show. I don't care what TV game show he came from.
@PantagesTheatre Please tell Constantine and Deborah that the two should hook up again for the roles of The Phantom and Christine. Suggested by ThePhantomfan5
I saw an early lush national tour of JH and the one featured here. What failed the Maroulis/Cox production was less than talented people thinking they had to come up with a version no one had seen before... that was down right amateurish. The cast was breathtaking . They deserved better.
Deborah Cox just...can't act. She isn't Lucy to me at all. She's just falls flat. Constantine's This is the Moment is so, so great. Other than that, i'm not a fan of the score change or the whole Confrontation deal with Hyde being prerecorded. Not cool.
I personally think that Constantine was amazing, but Deborah really brings the show down. Constantine performed Dangerous Game with Linda Eder, and it was MUCH better than his version with Deborah
Chloe Burton no matter what you said any negativites against him makes anyone my enemy so that means you . he was the best no the most amazing choice we had and velot prats like you refuse to accept him
I won't deny that Constantine has an epic rock voice, because I really enjoy his singing. However, I don't feel the rock works well for Jekyll and Hyde. The songs are great as stand-alone pieces, but I don't like it on stage in context of the play. While I really like Constantine's singing (his This is the Moment is awesome) I don't feel this style. This is just my humble opinion, though. I respect that others may really love this version. I just prefer Robert Cuccioli or Rob Evan.
Not to argue, because everyone will have their own opinion & preference of actors/singers. But, I've loved Jekyll & Hyde from its debut. I saw the original production. I suffered through the David Hasselhoff fiasco, which was like a train wreck that I couldn't stop watching. I have even seen the steampunk production, where they nearly rewrote the script, deleted songs & adding couple new songs. I think Constantine has the perfect voice for Jekyll & Hyde. The score was updated & given a slight rock sound, which is what Constantine is used to singing.
to all the people bashing Constantine on his acting choices when he sings: i'd like to see all of you even attempt to do it. he is singing at an INSANE range and he is mastering it with ease. focus and minimal acting go a long way, much longer than David Hasslehoff's ridiculous over-acting and pitchy vibrato tone ever went. Constantine is a gifted human being and he is well deserving of this role. be respectful to him and the fact that he is sharing his marvelous talent with us all.
I mean, I won't say that they don't have nice voices, because they do. They also both have nice ranges. But don't mess up a great musical by sticking people that have no business being on that stage up there! I'm sure that if someone had never seen or heard the original cast or concept album then they might think this is an awesome production. But the magic is in the delivery of the characters, plot developement and genuine struggle within Jekyll. From what this video shows, it has none of that.
Wondering if the whole show has been taped? I would love to buy it. The only jekyll tape im aware of is with hasselholf, yuck! Much rather see Constantine.
What in the hell did I just watch? it certainly wasn't Jekyll and Hyde. Well, at least I will be saving myself the price of tickets. Not a chance will I go see...whatever this is.
I went to Opening Night on Broadway this past Thursday and I was heavily disappointed. However, this video doesn't do justice for Deborah Cox or Constantine who I'm not a fan of. The singing from these two and the rest of the cast was phenomenal. Unfortunately, it was not enough to have much pull on the many flaws of this version of the production
Why so hostile? I agree and i am a singer and actor, so what? he is overdoing it all, turning it to a bad pop rock song, and only thinks of himself, while she is simply outstanding. Dont jump on people because they have freedom to comment. damn...
I bet he can't do both at the same time. I'd say if that's the case, I'd rather him focus on his voice. Hugh Jackman tried to act and sing at the same time in les mis, and his bring him home made me want to die.
Adding the Heavy Metal/Rock element into their musical arrangement in the songs like Alive and Confrontation is the best idea they've come up with. Staying with the traditional orchestra is boring.
Isn't she more of a belter? And anyway I meant Deborah would be fine but not... Constantine. Keep him away from the more classical theatre and he'll do great. He's got an impressive voice and it's good, but it's not... really... his style.
I just don't understand these re-orchestrations at all. If they wanted to go the rock route, why not just do J&H Resurrection, a FAR, FAR superior rock version of the show? Instead of keeping the original tempos for the orchestra and then directing the singers to do something completely out of synch? It doesn't make any sense.
Damn 0:46 gives me chills. What an absolutely addicting vocal there. Incredible. What a great choice to hit a high note on "damn". It was the perfect change in melody for the last verse to give full momentum through the end of the song!
Hasselhoff did the same thing on the DVD. The song feels incomplete without it! :)
What a LOVELY comment, Christine :) So happy you enjoyed the show...we are VERY proud to have it in our theatre!
This was the first version I saw of Jekyll & Hyde on stage. I went to an early performance in La Mirada, California and really enjoyed it, and then at the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles. Jesus this mans voice! He's amazing!
I just finished Jekyll and Hyde with Virginia Musical Theatre and we actually had Constantine reprise his role as Jekyll/Hyde! He was absolutely stunning to watch and listen too; a true man of talent. I hope he continues his life of performing.
Saw it last night on Broadway and had a great time... they were both wonderful.
Bravo you go Constantine keep of the good work love
We'll make sure we let both Constantine and Deborah know :) Hope you can make the show in February! 3 Weeks!
Saw this earlier today. By far the best show that the Pantages has ever had. Constantine and Deborah were phenomenal. Can't wait to see this again.
Was doubtful when I went to see it, but the cast blew me away. Yeah, I wish they could have done more with the transformation of Jekyll to Hyde, but considering how fast they had to do the transformations, I don't blame them for what they did. this is the moment that i have been dreaming of since I came to the US, watching Jekyll & Hyde in NYC! Can't wait!!
I was absolutely blown away last Friday, March 1st in the second row! Constantine was absolutely amazing as both the gentle Dr. Hyde and the blood-thirsty, evil Edward Hyde. My prediction for 2013 TONY AWARDS...Best Musical and Best Male Performance for Constantine Maroulis! It's a must see musical! Thank you Constantine! You rock!!
woah did I just hear Jekyll and Hyde? DIDN'T I JUST SAAAAY!!!
This show needs to come out on Bluray and dvd
I live in the Chicago area and WILL be attending this!!!!
Can't wait I met Constantine and Deborah in La Mirada when I saw the show 4 times, I am going again in Feb in Los Angeles. They are very humble and takes time with their fans. They better be nominated for Tonys. Jeff Calhoun is amazing too!
Wow!!! Now that's how to sing This is the moment!
Amen to that! From the first sound that came out of his mouth on Idol in 2005, he has had my complete attention.
And Deborah now has a new fan too! As a result of Constantine. Wish they'd record an entire CD together.
Wish I could get out West and experience your beautiful theater!
Absolutely extraordinary! Both of them.
just saw in in Durham NC... IT WAS FREAKING AMAZING WHAT A PREFORMANCE
Iiiiiiincredible!!! Constantine's acting and singing is Al Pacino levels. Stunned completely! Great great production!
Constantine is such a fresh voice on Broadway 🌺
I've followed this show, since I first saw it, "pre-Broadway", in O.C. Then, the show starred Linda Eder, & was dark, sinister, bloody, & INCREDIBLE! The Show is fantastic! I saw it on New Year's day and what a great start to the year! Good luck to the cast May you find success everywhere you go.
I know! We're so excited!!
This was absolutely amazing!
I saw it at Pantages and the cast was amazing!!
This was perfection. I saw it in San Diego and I'm coming to see it tonight at the Pantages! Can't wait!! Hopefully get to meet the stars at the stage door! (:
OMG his voice improved so much since AI!!!! Love this!
I would like to have been able to see this show.
Oh dear GOD! Mr. Hyde! Please have a paramedics ready in Durham, NC next month!
Happy Birthday Constantine! Hurry up and come back to Broadway!
Haha...Constantine's voice has that effect on people ;)
WOW. WOW!!! WOW!!!!! CONSTANTINE... the Rock & Roll has GOT to go!!! THIS son, is YOUR stage... where YOU are a MIND🌟 BLOWING🌟 SUPER🌟 STAR!!!⭐
I NEED THIS SOUNDTRACK!!!!!
Is there ever going to be a video recording released? I really want to see this show.
0:46 wow, just wow
oh wow i didn't know that deabroah cox was into broadway i still love her song nobody supose to be here to this day!! i might just go and see the show!
I saw this at the pantages on Wednesday. LOVED EVERY BIT OF IT :) marry me Constantine?
HYDE...SWEET MOTHER OF GOD...!!! I just fainted.
I predict Constantine and Deborah will be Broadway's next First Couple- they were both outstanding - as was the entire production. Exciting and powerful. Counting the days until I can see it again in LA:)
Abosolutely amazing.
*Claps* WHOOOHOOOO!!! CONSTANTINE!!!!
Plus, every time I watch this video, especially the part Jekyll sings 'this is the moment', Constantine reminds me of Leonard from The big bang theory for some reason lol

@ 1:26 min absolutely WOW!!! I am speechless.
Ummm...... what the bloody hell have I been missing in my life? Oh, that's simple.... THIS!!!

constatine is probably one of the best jekyll/hydes out there, besides gregorio
Incredible, Constantine is
holy crap! It's Leonard Hoffstader from Big Bang Theory as Jekyll! LOL!!
Love Constantine singing … Hyde! (High note!)
Just saw it in Denver. Every single one of the voices knocked me flat, and though I wasn't exactly a fan of Deborah's acting, the production is a good one. Going in I thought it looked like a bad soap opera, but if I've learned anything it's don't judge a show by its ad.
Agreed!

His voice? What? 😁😲😊

Are they singing over a backing track in "A New Life" and "Alive"? What is that weird echo?
The thing is, other people that can do it ten times better than Maroulis and Hasslehoff, that's the reason i hated Jonas as Marius in Les Mis and Wilson as Raoul in Phantom, but I've only seen videos from this production, so i cant say much more than that. Pah! Steve Harley sang the Phantom's part in a video, and um, he's a rocker
I personally believe that Jekyll and Hyde carries some of the most heavy and tricky songs. Yet, Deborah and Constantine make it look way too easy! Not fair! What is the first song? I don't have that on my album...
no she's got a sweet voice
Maybe that's true, but because you are one thing does not mean you cannot do anything else. You can be able to sing rock-like and sing classically and sing pop-like if you know how/are taught.
oh and tell them that maybe they should team up to do Phantom of the Opera as well
anyone got the lyrics for this?
What song is this
Ok
I watched it last night, great performance! But there was something wrong with Costantine's microphone (maybe it was too close to his mouth), I could hear some noise like hissing all the time, which spoiled the impression a bit. I was hoping it would be fixed during the show, but no :(
What the heck was that nod at 1:01?
It's calling acting.
I am grossly unimpressed with Maroulis' Edward Hyde. Letting his hair fall down is not enough of a transformation. I like Constantine, he can sing and act. Deborah has a good voice, but can't act to save her life:P
ecxellent.
\
So sad that they are using auto tuning for Debora Cox. There are plenty of talented people who could sing this role!
Oh God no, why. Why is this happening?!
to all the people bashing Constantine on his acting choices when he sings:

Colleen Sexton and Linda Eder were both phenomenal as Lucy. This one did not impress me as much 🙁
Constantine .... please marry me
MRtoast right

he was good but he couldnt live up to some fo teh originals they say but i honestly didnt mind his fresh spin on it
Wondering if the whole show has been taped? I would love to buy it. The only jekyll tape im aware of is with hasselholf, yuck! Much rather see Constantine.
What in the hell did I just watch? it certainly wasn't Jekyll and Hyde. Well, at least I will be saving myself the price of tickets. Not a chance will I go see...whatever this is.
fyi the music rips off the jnh Resurrection sountrack
Check my version of This Is The Moment and send me a comment? 😃😃
You can barely understand Constantine Half the time
I went to Opening Night on Broadway this past Thursday and I was heavily disappointed. However, this video doesn't do justice for Deborah Cox or Constantine who I'm not a fan of. The singing from these two and the rest of the cast was phenomenal. Unfortunately, it was not enough to have much pull on the many flaws of this version of the production
Haha...hope you're ok now! ;)
like that they brought back i need to know. dont like the changes to Alive
Why so hostile? I agree and i am a singer and actor, so what? he is overdoing it all, turning it to a bad pop rock song, and only thinks of himself, while she is simply outstanding. Dont jump on people because they have freedom to comment. damn...

Deborah is singing this with pop & R and B Riffs. She should take a more straightforward emotional and approach to the song.
Isn't she more of a belter? And anyway I meant Deborah would be fine but not... Constantine. Keep him away from the more classical theatre and he'll do great. He's got an impressive voice and it's good, but it's not... really... his style.
