  • This video will show you how to replace the front and rear differential oil and transfer case fluid in the 2011-2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The gear oil and transfer case fluid was purchased from Amazon and I will provide links down below. Make sure you use the correct transfer case fluid because Jeep used three different transfer cases and they require different fluid. The Jeep in this video has the MP2010 transfer case which requires Shell atf 3353. The NV245 requires mopar NV247/245 transfer case lube. The others will take ATF +4 fluid.

    For owners that have the Quadra Trac II, the spec’d transfer case fluid is ATF +4. Shell 134 is for Quadra Trac I.

    I have a 2015 JGC two-wheel drive with almost 95000 miles. Not sure last time this was done as I bought the truck used w 35000. I plan on doing this the next time I change the oil. Thanks!

    Nice video,but if you have an ESLD on the rear cadr you need an additive on top. I have the CG Summit disel 2016 and it is mandatory to use this additive.

    Great, helpful video. I have a 2017 GC Trailhawk and will be doing this for both diffs. I plan to use Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90 full synthetic, which contains friction modifiers for my ELSD. Do you see any issues with that? Looks like about 3 quarts should cover both diffs.

      Local shop wanted $800 for front, back and 4x4 oil. Thank you for the great video will do change the oils myself now. I just change my engine oil last week and replaced the engine filter and cabin filter.

    We have a 2018 JGC limited . 8 speed transmission , although I’m not sure on the differential. Might be the same as yours . We have the knob to switch to low, sand,snow etc …. Is there a way to check mine so I use the correct fluids. I asked if I did this myself and it won’t void the warranty if I document it with pictures and records. I appreciate any guidance that you can provide….. thanks

    Great video but for me, no matter how hard i try, the oil pan prevents getting an allen head in the fill plug of the front diff on a 2018 High Altitude. Any suggestions or methods that may help? The last thing i want is to strip out the fill plug.

      They sell short allen wrenches for tight spaces like that. I ordered a set as you also need them if you ever have to remove the driveshaft on the GC

    When did they start using ATF in transfer case. Mine 05 with qd2 used gear oil. Lucky I've checked before ordering.

    Hey thanks for your great video! I'm a bit lost on the right fluid for the transfer case. I crawled under the car and the case says DCS2225191 CAV7. which after some research should be the MP2010. So far so good, I can't seem to find any seller in Canada for ATF 3404... some more research is saying this has been replaced by ATF 134. Is that true? Where can I find some reliable information?

      I found ATF-134 about a week ago on Amazon for right around $12.50 per Qt. Bottle 👍🏽

    I have a 2018 also and in the owner’s manual there is only a service item for the transfer case fluid change at 120k miles but no change indication for rear/front differential.

      It’s probably because they think it’s a lifetime gear oil that never needs replaced just like the transmission fluid on these jeeps but in my opinion no oil or fluid is considered lifetime.

      Change your differentials every 50k and transfer case every 30k

    How do you determine which transfer case your vehicle has? Also the description states that the MP2010 transfer case requires the Shell ATF 3353, but the video shows shell 134? Is 134 the same as 3353?

    Nine-tenths of a quart, about 29 ounces, which includes 4 ounces of limited slip additive.

    I have a 2018 JGC Limited 2WD 3.6L gasoline engine....1) does it have ELSD ..... 2) which is the correct differential fluid to use..75W-85 or 75W-90 and 3) do I need to add a friction modifier....thank you so much.

      I prefer doing them along with the transfer case every 30k-50k miles also depending on how you drive if you tow or haul a lot with if or if it gets submerged in water from off roaring on trails or towing a boat I would definitely do it every 30k.

    I wonder why did you use automatic transmission fluid for transfer case instead of transfer fluid from mopar that was specific to use? Means that I can also use ATF+4 transmission fluid?

      As long as you don’t have the nv245 or mp2010 transfer case like in the video you can use the atf+4. Do you know what transfer case you have?

      If yours is a 4x2 you won’t have a transfer case that’s only on the 4x4 models.

      @@comowhat2744 Jeep claims the transmission has a lifetime fluid that never needs to be changed but in my opinion no fluid or oil is considered lifetime because fluid starts to breakdown over time especially with heat and friction.

Well thank you for replying, I guess that means less work regarding the tranfer case.. I want my jeep to last so I'm trying to make sure it gets maintenance for what it needs. But at the same time trying to find out as much as I can so I don't get ripped off.

      @@comowhat2744 Your welcome that's smart though getting to know your vehicle before you take it in. It's hard to trust people theses days. Since yours is a 4x2 you will only have one differential as well. The biggest thing that will keep your vehicle long lasting and on the road is keeping up with oil changes. I still do all my vehicles every 3k miles even though the vehicle manufactures now recommend every 7-10k miles.

    Get amsoil diff fluid. It comes in a package you can squeeze in like a tube of toothpaste. Don't need a pump.

      We use Amsoil in all of our Jeep GC Overlands High Altitudes for both differentials, transfer case and transmission, replaced the trans pan with a PPE and flushed the system with Amsoil ATF years ago. Runs so much smoother. I either use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum or Amsoil Signature series oil. I don't use Mopar fluids or filters.

      Customer wanted it replaced. It’s still good maintenance to change about every 100k this one had 88k on it.

    Is that a 4x4? I know my wife’s is just a 2wd model so is there a gear housing in the front or just the rear in my case?

      Yes this is a 4x4. If yours is 2wd you will only have a differential in the rear because it will be only rear wheel drive.

      There should be a label on the case with a part# & serial number which I googled and found what transfer case my JGC has. I also checked my equipment list and found what transfer case that my JGC has.

      There will be a tag on the transfer case underneath the vehicle. What model grand Cherokee do you have?

      Most likely you will have the mp2010 just like in the video just crawl underneath and check the tag to be sure though.

      No it’s different depending on what transfer case you have. The mp2010 transfer case takes the shell atf 3403 like what I used in the video. If you have the nv245 transfer case it will take the mopar nv247/245 transfer case lube. All other transfer cases will take Atf +4 fluid.
