  • Tamiya Grand Hauler TAM56334 with MFC Part 3 - Paint, Final Wiring, Thoughts and Tips
    This part three of the build series where I will be taking you along finishing up this epic build. This Grand Hauler and the MFC are completely as cool as they seem like they would be! The details in the truck kit and the addition of lights sounds and the physical shaking of the truck makes it as realistic as it can be without needing a CDL!!! I will give my thoughts and tips on certain things that may help you out if you are thinking about getting one of these trucks. I certainly recommend getting one but maybe not for a first build as it is a very involved kit.
    I was recently gifted a supremely special gift of a Tamiya Grand Hauler with the Tamiya Multi-Function Control Unit (MFC) TAM56511 to go into it by The RC Elf. So, this video is sponsored by the Elf. A Tamiya 1/14 scale semi-truck has been on my radar for many years now and now I am finally able to build one and since I am I will take you along to show you the process and let you know of any areas I found hard or confusing and tips to help you out if you decide to get one for yourself.
    Thanks again to the RC Elf and let get into the video!

      They are big trucks which is part of the charm of them. The color came out really cool. It took a ton of it though. Since it was a translucent blue it took a lot of coats to build up and even coverage. Thanks for stopping by and checking in!!

    Hey man just found your channel, i literally just got the GRAND Hauler myself and the Tamiya Tanker, the TANKER was awesome to build and i will post a video on my channel, the tanker took me a little over 6 hours, all in one sitting, LOLOL. Your tips on here are AWESOME, i will definitely use them when i start my build in a few days on my GRAND HAULER. You did an AMAZING job on your build.

      Awesome! I am glad you enjoyed it and I will have to check out your video! They are really a joy to build and you can really go down a rabbit hole with them... I started putting all kinds of accessories in carts and wish lists when I was getting it wrapped up and decided to back away from it for a bit. I love it but also didn't want to spend hundred and hundreds to keep adding to it right away! I am glad my videos may help you on yours some and glad you found them. I will go check out your channel now!

    Hey! Great build! I have a tip for putting the lights through the body. You can pop the wires out of the connectors that plug into the MFU. It’s very tedious but can be done with a small flathead screwdriver. Run the wires through the hole and pop the wires back into the connector. Just be sure to put the 2 wires in the connector the same way you popped them out.

      Didn't even think about that. Luckily I the snipping of the edges of the bulbs worked out! I did notice on the MFC the ground is on one side of the board and the positive is on the other so that helps identify the right wires. Thanks for watching and for the tip as I will be building another at some point for sure

    Hiya Addam. Wow that was one heck of a build and the finished truck looks amazing. You'll have to be super careful with it when you go out. I look forward to that run video when you do get some nice weather. Makes so much difference to video in the sun. Only downside is avoiding the shadow of yourself which isn't a worry on a dull day. Anyway thanks for sharing. Hoorah for the elf :-)

      LOL! Yeah, this was a while ago and the lots of improvements to the garage and the video quality too. It is to bad the goofball behind the bench still struggles with words and stuff but I guess he is consistent! LOL! Glad you enjoyed it, it is an amazing truck to build and drive!

    22:45 I ground out part of the headlight area and glued in the second pair of lights so there are four total. It can be done if you don't mind hacking up the body (carefully) and then the front looks great. One issue I ran into while doing this is the extra headlights are closer to the lenses so they seem much brighter but its still a great look compared to two headlights only. One note about the motorized support legs and the rear wheel fenders. You can use them but if you jack-knife the truck with trailer attached you will scrape them up badly. I recently ruined mine and now have to strip and repaint them. I may just remove them altogether. BTW great looking truck!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 роки тому +1

      I thought about cutting the light out but was too excited to see it done!! I did scratch a rear fender already. I bought some chrome diamond plate from RC4WD to cut out a couple covers for the tips of the fenders. The hope is it will look like they are walk guard or something and not doofy! If they end up looking bad I'll send and print mine too. In hind sight I would have skipped the electronic legs all together. Thanks for stopping by and checking it out!

      They are expensive, there is no getting around it but if you love the build part and the enjoyment of taking a pile of parts trees and turning it into something amazing the ln it is worth saving up for!!!! I already have plans for another one, I just hope I can pull it off. It will be down the road a bit but it is a while different part of the hobby and I am loving it. Thanks for stopping by and for the kind words. Have fun and start saving, you won't regret it!!!

      You can move the speaker unit under the hood and it will allow for the full interior with the rumble installed. Bob from hobby concepts sells the brackets, I made my own but took a bit of trial and error to get them right so may be easier to get the ones from Bob! Thanks for checking it out and they are a fun kit to build up. Just take your time with it and you'll enjoy it.

      @@AddamsPlayground I am really enjoying what you do. I like how you present your content and how insightful you are with your builds/topics. The only minor improvement I would suggest is a microphone to hear you better. Please don't take that as a criticism but as a suggestion. Cheers!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 роки тому +1

      @@canuckchuck8836 I will accept all criticism, it helps me know what people think and how I can improve. I do have some plans of upgrading the camera gear and sound. It is hard to juggle as I want to keep getting new stuff (builds, parts and stuff) to keep making videos and provide interesting content but at the same time I am trying to upgrade stuff so it is hard to choose which to do. Obviously the kits and parts are way more fun than cameras and mics but I know it needs to be done. Since everything is out of pocket for me ( I make zero dollars here currently and a while before I am even eligible) so it is a hard choice to make. I am so glad you like the videos and I really do appreciate the feedback!! Thanks :)

    Hey Addam' great video. I found your video because I was searching these kit after buying one for myself this xmas and I've run into couple issues that I hoping you or someone reading to help me out. When mention the pain in the a$$ the roof lights were and my issue is gluing. I am having zero success gluing anything that's plated and even had amazing goop glue eat some parts (completely garbage) I am not having doubts moving forward with the remaining similar parts. Manual calls for instant cement (which I have) but it also calls for (synthetic rubber cement). What I found and have yet to test is TAM87188 Multi-Purpose Cement Clear.
    Any info you care share with me would be greatly appreciated

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 роки тому +1

      Sorry about the late reply, been without power all week! For the roof lights I took a hobby knife and scraped away the chrome off of the spots where the mount and the slow on the cab then used regular medium model cement. That will give you the best bond but it is tedious and slow. You can use instant glue, test it on a scrap piece of chrome like the parts tree sprue to make sure it won't fog up the chrome. The only place I remember the rubber cement was for the rubber bump stops on the suspension. I used some spray adhesive there since I didn't have any other rubber cement. I just sprayed a bit on piece of cardboard and then dabbed the rubber pads into it and then used a bamboo skewer to wipe some on the plastic parts, give it a minute or two and then stick them together. Hope it wasn't too late to help out!

    I wonder if you can use a capacitor on the rumble motor power supply to give it a boost on start up?
    Great video mate 👌🦘🇦🇺

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 роки тому +2

      I had not thought of it but it may work. It only take a few seconds to shut it down and then restart to get it going. There is not much out there on the specs of the MFC output powers and I am worried about wrecking something with it by messing about too much! It is a fun thing to have on to show people the full effects of it but for just driving it around it is best to leave it off for the sake of not shaking the truck to pieces! Glad you liked it and thanks for stopping by!!!

    Is there any way to use the mfc with a aftermarket ecu?

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 роки тому

      So you have the MFC but want to use another speed control instead of the built in one? I mean you can, you would have to use a Y-adapter for the throttle channel on the receiver and split the signal to the MFC and the other ESC and just wire the motor to the new ESC. You would have to split the signal to both to get the sounds from the MFC unit when going forward and reverse as well as the brake and reverse lights. I don't see any reason you can't do it, just make sure the motor leads from the MFC are protected and won't make contact with anything in there while driving, that would be not good!
