Hopefully the Resident Evil remakes (and FF7) will prove that there is a lasting demand for these older games to be revisited. Hopefully, Parasite Eve will get its own remake. Yeah, I'd buy a PS4 for that.
grab a hacked psp, dl ps1 for psp iso. or if you have decent cellphone just dl ppssp and the game iso. its beautiful old relic, but it doesnt fit for recent trends and taste. maybe they will remake/reconcept/rebuilt this idea when you have grandchildren.. they already make three pe titles, but its kinda butchered the original idea game play story, it doesnt sell well. beautiful old game, lets face it dude, were old
Parasite Eve was my first-ever Playstation game, so it'll always hold a special place in my memories. I still have my original copy in pristine condition. It was unique for its time and the chances Square took mostly paid off. My only complaint is that the game is a little on the short side, probably because it's meant to be played several times to get powerful enough to see the "true" ending. Still, a short game is better than one that overstays its welcome. I'm glad someone else appreciates this game as much as l do.
Oh yeah! Easily one of the best games I've ever played. It's definitely pretty short, but like you said, it's better than it being padded out. An absolute masterpiece for sure!
Huh, despite being Japanese, Aya Brea (or even Eve's host) having a New York accent would make a little too much sense, all things considered. Even a slight accent wouldn't hurt the game or story at all. She's lived there long enough to pass the bar. She's got to be a true New Yorker..
Easily one of the most "under the radar" PS1 games. My nostalgia is strong for this game, and I still play it on my US-console from time to time. It's an Interesting game, with some unique mechanics, character development, and "modern" setting, made it an experience I don't think I'll ever forget. Thank you for covering it, and have a nice day/night.
I am so, so hype about this retrospective. Parasite Eve just doesn't get enough love. Square put out more masterpieces in the PSone era that most companies put out in their entire lifetime
What you say around 8:43... ABSOLUTELY agree with this. Video games taught me a lot when I was younger, and helped shape me in many ways (if even only by a small part)
I am not a jrpg or turn based rpg player at all I like the first game. I haven't beat it but I liked customizing weapons and the combat system is fun. I won a PSP at a work party around the time 3rd birthday came out and the first two games released on PSN. So I thought I would try them all out.
Oh man. I'm so happy you made this video. I'm like one of the biggest fan of the Parasite Eve series. You could even say i'm among the cults that praises this game. This game is the reason why I took AP Bio in high school and pick up electronica music in the early 2000s. I got this game for Christmas at the age of 13 and played over and over 30 times back to back til i was strong enough for the chrysler building. This game is truly a masterpiece!
Ah, this game. This fucking game. The art style was like nothing else at the time, the gameplay was like nothing else at the time, the music was like nothing else at the time. What a gem.
This was one of the very first games I fell in love with aside from FF. I truly believe it deserves a well made remake, Parasite Eve has a special place in my heart :D The OST, gameplay, atmosphere was all well done, something different, but not everyone saw that back in the day :(
It really is something special. I knew when I first rented it from blockbuster, that this was the exact game for me. I loved RE and FF back then, and this game felt like a perfect combination of the two.
Parasite eve omg T_T I’ve mainly been watching the resi vids and just making my way to games outside the series and this game has a special place in my heart I
Fuuuuuck I miss pre rendered backgrounds!!!! Makes me so sad we barely ever get them any more :( I really fucking hope this becomes the next nostalgia thing to come back to indie games. Makes me so sad. Also these graphics are top tier on PS1 easily. It almost feels like square is cheating or something lol some younger people may call it ugly but anyone who's played as many PS1 games as we have know what's up. The art is a pure masterpiece IMO.
I really hope the RE2 remake could help with revitalizing them. Pre-Rendered backgrounds were the shit. When done right (and most of them were) they would ooze with atmosphere. I miss them dearly.
I've been hoping the same thing, but you know Capcom is almost just as likely to cock the whole thing up. I'm still excited, but I'm also really worried too. HA.
lol I'm saying it's a 50/50 chance but I'm also a guy who liked RE7 and 5 which other hardcore RE fans often scoff at like I'm not a real fan even though I've been all in since RE1. This is my rankings: 7.RE6 6.RE3 5.RE5 4.RE7 3.RE4 2.RE1:Remake 1.RE2 What are your guys' rankings?
I don't think my nostalgia is making me biased, but they sure don't make them like they used to. PE 1's combat system was my favorite. It perfectly blended real time and turn-based. I can't get into today's games for some reason. They're just interactive movies to me where gameplay takes the backseat. Granted, this can be argued as cinematic, but still. This was the golden age of Squaresoft. WTF happened?
I completely agree! 90's squaresoft was on top of the world. They could literally do no wrong for me. It seemed like every game they put out kept raising the bar higher and higher, but after the merger with Enix, things started to go south.
Great video Avalanche! My cousin had this game when we were little!! We were probably a little to young to be playing this game at that time, but we still thought it was awesome.
ive only just found your channel but I am binge watching the shit out of it, even re watching videos I have watched already, your content is nice, real nice and I cant get enough dude. top notch
Despite never beating this game I had a lot of fun with it. I'd love to go back and finish it one of these days. Those scenes in the cop car with the background whizzing by always stood out to me, visually.
Avalanche .. you just "Liberate" my mind with this one .. *Parasite Eve* .. Parasite Freaking Eve .. my No.1 favorite game of all time got a retrospective , this is everything to me .. thank you for that ;')
Parasite Eve is undoubtedly one of the most unique RPG experiences of the decade and maybe even today. The fact it didnt get more love is tragic. I would talk about it to other kids at school like we did with every other game at the time but noone knew what this one was.
I agree completely. This should have been a huge success for Square. I mean the game just oozes quality and effort. I have no idea why it didn't blow up with popularity.
Gotta relate to this guy a lot right now. Parasite Eve came to me when I was still figuring out a lot about myself. I didn't really have friends growing up so I had games and PE had a massive influence on me and it deserves far more love than it gets. I'm still beyond hopeful for a proper PE1 + 2 remaster.
I've played all Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and other great games similar to them back in the late nineties... but this one (Parasite Eve) flew under my radar! I've just tried it, and I gotta say... I'm having more fun with it than most titles coming out for current consoles nowadays. The atmosphere, characters, soundtrack, settings, and EVERYTHING else you mentioned TRULY made these past games, even to this day, stand out above MOST for current gen consoles. This one and Parasite Eve 2 have just earned their spot in my collection of Survival Horror titles. Thanks for sharing, mate! : )
It's a shame this one never came to Europe. I remember seeing pictures about it in some gaming magazines, especially coupled with articles about the upcoming sequel, and thinking it looked amazing as hell. I had no idea what the gameplay was like, but now I do. Thanks for that! But it really is a shame we never got it over here, because it looks more fun than the sequel, I think. At least combat does. Reminds me of Koudelka.
If only they'd release it digitally over here as well. I mean, Suikoden 3 was... and that's Konami's property. Then again, I guess Parasite Eve doesn't have as strong a following. Which, once again, is a shame. :D
Avalanche Reviews Im just as stoaked man especially since its parasite eve. I haven't played em as much as Ive wanted too but man do i love the series.
i was honestly so disappointed with what they did to her in 3rd birthday. i know they lost rights to the story and stuff, but i rather they not make anything instead of putting that out there. a lot of people thought that parasite eve was that, and they didn't go and play the first or second one :(. i'm glad you mentioned that each title is basically a standalone, because i really agree.
Yeah, when I played 3rd birthday for this retrospective, it was my first time with the game, and I was blown away at how bad they messed her character up. That's why I put this series out. I wanted people to get to know the real PE games.
i'm glad these happened! i listen to them while i'm at work. i agree about the soundtrack on PE1. it was one of my favorite things about the game. i remember feeling like eve was around every corner. i was also like, 9 or 10, so the music made me that much more paranoid.
It's really interesting that gameplay looks a lot like Vagrant Story and the world map is rather reminiscent of Front Missions. Also the menu bar is relatively similar to Final Fantasy 8. Kind of like a relatively unknown (or more accurately unplayed) game that fed into some well known classics.
Pure 90's kino game, excellent vid! Really, really hope they don't try to do a remake though. Let the original 1st game and the franchise rest in peace.
I've never played Parasite Eve, and I can't even remember seeing the game back in the days (my brother remembers it well though, he said it's in those game store back then). Around ten years later, I found the game again. Still never played it cuz games are hard to me lol. Yet, I really enjoy the music. I missed the days when I watched the walkthrough clips one by one until the end. It's a really great game. Beautiful music, especially the texture of these 90s sound. I love it.
Loved this game and I just found out about your channel. Great review and what you said about games was not lame: Happened to me too! Games like this shaped a big part of me. Gonna check the PE2 Right the hell now! Cheers!
Thank you Jared for this review. I had never even heard of this game before probably due to growing up in the UK. So as a fan of JRPGs and survival horror I had to check it out. Well around 40 hours and two play-throughs later I have finally finished the game with both endings and had a blast. The Chrysler Building maybe got a little bit stale by the top but I still had a great time with it. Parasite Eve has definitely been propelled into my list of favourite games of all time. Only 20 years after it's initial release! Just thought I would come back to this video and say thank you for the recommendation.
I'm beyond happy to hear that! This is exactly why I made this channel. So that people could see the games I love, in the light that I see them in. Actually inspiring someone to pick one of these games up, is the highest accomplishments. I'm glad you love PE as much as I do. Cheers man!
This game was so sick and underrated. I remember getting this when I was 13 and fucking loved the game...it was so unique I recall. It was a survivor horror RPG and was WAY ahead of its time for sure.
Great video. I didn't play it back in the day, but I saw my brother and another friend plow through the game. I may have to go out and buy this game and try to roll through it on my own.
Yeah... What happened to the software industry? These ps1 games fit in 500 MB or less, can be played in mobile phones with an emulator, and are a great experience! Compare those games with the current mobile phone games... 😭
At a guess it used to be functionality > fun > set dressing Now it's Set dressing > functionality > fun In that order Hence why classics are good no matter when you play them
Awesome look at one of the all-time classics, my man! :D "Parasite Eve" (the sequel included) remains one of my all-time favorite games to this very day, no matter which generation in video game console it was released. :D The story, themes/ideas explored, RPG elements mixed in with Survival-Horror, and of course, the Music is all outstanding! Japanese video game developers understand Atmosphere and Tone unlike any other, utilizing in the most effective way. ^.^ Can't wait for the 2nd part! :D
just came across this. Excellent vid. Currently giving 3rd Birthday a second try after it really disappointed me when it came out, which is why I was looking up retrospectives on youtube. Parasite Eve is also a very special game for it and I love it dearly.
I played parasite eve a few years back, I liked it. I remember stopping on the second one mid way through though, can't remember why. I do remember liking that one too.
This game sounds incredible, why have I never played it? I love resident evil, JRPGs, and the PS1. Great video as always, Avalanche, I will definitely check this out on my vita
Damn, I was not expecting this, a retrospective on one of my beloved series written by a good creator. I knew you and I had a lot in common! XD Great stuff, sir.
may I also say @avalanche reviews, you are doing an absolutely amazing Job of covering games! your resident evil retrospective was great! as much as I didn't enjoy resident evil 6 you defended it very well! glad you enjoyed it! personally I hated it, however you presented your opinion of it perfectly!
I love this game so much that I have a tattoo with the main tag line this game. (The worst foes lies within the self) also is my motto in life. You have to make yourself better because you are your own enemy.
@@AvalancheReviews I didnt enjoy it very much though. After the first big boss I kinda got bored and turned it off. Not a bad game but not interesting enough to keep me playing.
This is one of my favorite game that I enjoy playing and finishing although I did after I bout it on psn years later. I did play it before on disc but that was a long time ago when I was younger. I will say I found out that the incident that is mentioned in the game is actually a Japanese movie of the same name. I watched it and felt that it does hold as some what a prequel to the games. I'm glad you are showing off this game for show people about the game and how good it is.
Yeah! I'm hoping I can get a good amount of new people to jump into this bad boy! I feel like PE was really important to the industry, despite it not selling that well.
i'm really looking forward to your next video! Parasite Eve is one of my favourite games but i never got around to play the second one. i hope you will make me want to play it immediately ;)
Glad to know I'm not the only one who loved pre-rendered backgrounds. On an additional note, supposedly Yoko Shimomura's main intent was to make a woefully and jarringly inorganic score, hence the use of synthetic vocals.
I was like 7 years old when I got this game for Christmas. I remember it actually scaring me at the time. I don't think my parents knew what they were buying me lol
My birthday is December 28th (which is in the game lol) I remember I wanted both Brave Fencer Musashi and this, so I got Musashi for Christmas and bought this 3 days later. It was an overload.
Oh PE1 have hidden extra hard boss fight, to se different credits with new ending song... To beat boss need go up in one building and on top boss. But needed level up and upgrade right things to stand chance. So if not mistaken needed complete game 4 or more times to be able win that boss it was so cool...
A lot of ppl loved it but complained that it was too confusing to play and they didn’t know what to do next. I love this game. Which it was a regular game though not an RPG.
Parasite Eve, to me, was when Square Soft and Capcom had a baby, and this was the result. A Final Fantasy RPG mixed with Resident Evil and Silent Hill horror elements. Also, even though the game is 20 years old, it still looks remarkably good.
It really is! I still can't believe Square wouldn't release a game that was already translated, in an English speaking region. I feel like that was just a poor business decision.......on top of being borderline evil. HA
Awesome video, man! I love Parasite Eve. It's one of my favorites on the PS1. I already did my own review of the game a ways back, confessing my love for it. :P I'm looking forward to the rest of your retrospective.
The soundtrack was amazing for this game
Yes it absolutely was
i dont mean to be off topic but does anyone know a method to log back into an Instagram account??

@Aryan Quentin Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm in the hacking process now.

@Aryan Quentin It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my ass !
I'm so glad there's a guy giving Parasite Eve the love it deserves!
Yeah! It's one of if my absolute favorite games. I had to let the world know how good it is.
The mitochondria is the power house of Eve.
98 was truly a magical year in gaming
Damn near the best, for me
Final fantasy tactics, crash 3, spyro, banjo kazooie, re2, sonic adventure (Japan only), marvel vs. Capcom, and LOZ: OOT.

Hopefully the Resident Evil remakes (and FF7) will prove that there is a lasting demand for these older games to be revisited. Hopefully, Parasite Eve will get its own remake. Yeah, I'd buy a PS4 for that.
I would love that, but they lost the rights to the story. I don't think they could even if they wanted to.
Then they need to get the rights back!! TO KICKSTARTER!!
TO KICKSTARTER!!!

"Sorry dad. Cant do lunch today. Nostalgia hit me."
"Are you watching that charismatic, avalanche reviews guy again?!"

I get the feeling that the game designers really liked The Thing.
I'm sure it was a huge influence.
This was good. I just wanted you to know this video inspired me to play Parasite Eve and I'm now about 4 hours in and having a blast.
That is exactly what I wanted to hear!!!!!
Very respectable homage to a series that doesn't get a lot of recognition. Thank you.
My pleasure!
This was great. I love PE1 and yes even 2.

Great video Avalanche! My cousin had this game when we were little!! We were probably a little to young to be playing this game at that time, but we still thought it was awesome.
Some of my best memories are from me getting a hold of media that I was wayyy too young for!

i was honestly so disappointed with what they did to her in 3rd birthday. i know they lost rights to the story and stuff, but i rather they not make anything instead of putting that out there. a lot of people thought that parasite eve was that, and they didn't go and play the first or second one :(. i'm glad you mentioned that each title is basically a standalone, because i really agree.
Oh absolutely! Easily one of the best soundtracks in game history!
Recently played and beat this game. Definitely had a tough time with the bosses but this game was so charming and fun. I loved the story too
Most underrated RPG of all time. Incredible visuals, music, story, writing, and combat. My 2nd favorite RPG after Final Fantasy VIII.
+godofwar2k6reborn absolutely! Such an insane rpg
If you can control the power house of the cell, you can control anything.
Replaying this game for the nth time. It never gets old!
This Game Alone Truly Deseverse a Remake! Great Review Dude!
Cheers!
Thanks man! Glad to know the people like me out there.
Cheers man!
Final Fantasy and Resident Evil together sounds like a dream. A wonderful one at that
It is! It works so daaaaaaaamn well
I played PE on my psvita for the first time. really enjoyed the game , I miss old games like that.
i love parasite eve so much, i wish square would ge tthe irghts back and bring us a proper 3rd entry into the series!
You and me both
This game was so sick and underrated. I remember getting this when I was 13 and fucking loved the game...it was so unique I recall. It was a survivor horror RPG and was WAY ahead of its time for sure.
Great game and you described it perfectly coming at a time in my life when I was figuring out who I was . Love this review of an amazing game
Thanks man! Good to talk to people that love PE as much as I do.
Great video! I loved this game , I completely forgot all about it.
If I can get people thinking about this game just a bit, then I can rest easy.
Great video. I didn't play it back in the day, but I saw my brother and another friend plow through the game. I may have to go out and buy this game and try to roll through it on my own.
It's sooooo damn good! And soooo damn cheap! Grab it!
I wish PS1 games were still made. Lol.
Same
PS1 anime games are the most anime-like
Yeah... What happened to the software industry? These ps1 games fit in 500 MB or less, can be played in mobile phones with an emulator, and are a great experience! Compare those games with the current mobile phone games... 😭
At a guess it used to be functionality > fun > set dressing
Now it's
Set dressing > functionality > fun
In that order
Hence why classics are good no matter when you play them
Used to watch my dad play this. Definitely just brought back memories 😇😇😇
Thanks!! I am having such a good time putting these videos together. I'll have the next one up and ready, next Friday.
Avalanche Reviews
You're welcome! ^.^ I can imagine how much fun it is to put them together. :D Looking forward to it, my man! :D
just came across this. Excellent vid. Currently giving 3rd Birthday a second try after it really disappointed me when it came out, which is why I was looking up retrospectives on youtube. Parasite Eve is also a very special game for it and I love it dearly.
Fuck yeah, thanks man. Goodluck with 3rd birth day. It disappointed the hell out of me, but there were a couple of cool aspects to it.
I played parasite eve a few years back, I liked it. I remember stopping on the second one mid way through though, can't remember why. I do remember liking that one too.
Well, keep an eye out. I'll be covering part 2, next Friday.
This Game was one of my favorites for sure
This game sounds incredible, why have I never played it? I love resident evil, JRPGs, and the PS1. Great video as always, Avalanche, I will definitely check this out on my vita
OH MAN! You have to play this!!!!!
Avalanche Reviews For only $5.99 on PSN I definitely will! :)
+Kurt Hanel It's going to blow you away
Damn, I was not expecting this, a retrospective on one of my beloved series written by a good creator. I knew you and I had a lot in common! XD Great stuff, sir.
+Dali Popka Thanks mang! I was hoping you would get into it.
It harkens back to a day where video game took chances..... I couldn't have said it better!
It really was a great time to be a gamer.
may I also say @avalanche reviews, you are doing an absolutely amazing Job of covering games! your resident evil retrospective was great! as much as I didn't enjoy resident evil 6 you defended it very well! glad you enjoyed it! personally I hated it, however you presented your opinion of it perfectly!
Thanks! I knew a lot of people wouldn't agree, but I wanted to at least make an understandable case for it. I appreciate the love!
I love this game so much that I have a tattoo with the main tag line this game. (The worst foes lies within the self) also is my motto in life. You have to make yourself better because you are your own enemy.
Just another way early 2000's squaresoft knew exactly what they were doing.
Alright, you've convinced me to give this game a try.
YES!
@@AvalancheReviews I didnt enjoy it very much though. After the first big boss I kinda got bored and turned it off. Not a bad game but not interesting enough to keep me playing.
I picked up parasite eve 1 and 2 recently and I'm excited when its delivered to me
It's amazing right!?
This is one of my favorite game that I enjoy playing and finishing although I did after I bout it on psn years later. I did play it before on disc but that was a long time ago when I was younger. I will say I found out that the incident that is mentioned in the game is actually a Japanese movie of the same name. I watched it and felt that it does hold as some what a prequel to the games. I'm glad you are showing off this game for show people about the game and how good it is.
Yeah! I'm hoping I can get a good amount of new people to jump into this bad boy! I feel like PE was really important to the industry, despite it not selling that well.
I'll probably play it again and beat it again you convince me man.
i'm really looking forward to your next video! Parasite Eve is one of my favourite games but i never got around to play the second one. i hope you will make me want to play it immediately ;)
Awesome! I'll have it up, this Friday.
Glad to know I'm not the only one who loved pre-rendered backgrounds.
On an additional note, supposedly Yoko Shimomura's main intent was to make a woefully and jarringly inorganic score, hence the use of synthetic vocals.
this is one of the reasons I pursue music. without this game I wouldn't have discovered Yoko Shimomura
I was like 7 years old when I got this game for Christmas. I remember it actually scaring me at the time. I don't think my parents knew what they were buying me lol
What a great game 👍
"A copy should come by around 20 bucks on ebay!"
> me checks ebay
> 190 Dollar
... how times change within such a short period :D
My birthday is December 28th (which is in the game lol) I remember I wanted both Brave Fencer Musashi and this, so I got Musashi for Christmas and bought this 3 days later. It was an overload.
An underrated series
It sure is
classy game, one of my favorites
Great video man I forgot about how good Eve was!
Thanks!
I've been meaning to play this for so long. God damn, it looks amazing.
+Casp O'saurus It really is amazing. Get off your ass and get to it!
I WILL PAPA JARED
Good boy
just subbed..great video and im a MASSIVE Resident evil fan. you have the best resi vids. keep em coming :)
+Stacy Pare That's awesome! Thank you.
I really hope and wish that there is a remaster for this game. I mean it still looks good but an HD upgrade would mean the world to me.
Parasite Eve, to me, was when Square Soft and Capcom had a baby, and this was the result. A Final Fantasy RPG mixed with Resident Evil and Silent Hill horror elements.
Also, even though the game is 20 years old, it still looks remarkably good.
it is literally a breach of human rights that this game didn't get an official pal release! it's perfect!
Thanks man!! I figured you would have already covered it. Coming back and replaying it was a fucking blast!
an HD remake of the first one would be 👌👏
I would dislocate my arm throwing money at a project like that.
haha indeed
I was always curious about this game.
Good vids by the way. Keep it up.
Thanks man!
I never played the game but I remember the demo disc trailer and I thought it looked awesome. I plan to play it someday.
