I'm pretty surprised at this. I was there in October and ordered the large fish and chips, and it was brilliant. Even had a can of beer with it. To be honest, you seemed to have made your mind up about the place before you even went in.
These places are better when they're busy. Pretty sure they change their suppliers off season as I've noticed considerable differences on and off peak.

I have been to this place with my mum. We both did not like either. The worst fish and chips I have ever had though was in Grimsby. We thew them away and then went to another chippy in Cleethorpes on the recommendation of a traffic warden and they were the best we had ever had. Was so nice we ordered another piece of Fish to share. It is called Steels Corner House Restaurant on Market Street.

Customers father opened fish and chip shop, you wouldn't believe the cost to set up. Range i think was like 30k. Ran it for 2 years, gave up when someone slipped on tiled wet floor and sued him. Said it wasn't worth the hassle. Sold the shop.

We went in there earlier this year and yes it was truly awful. I think they cater for the masses without putting any effort in and the staff were not rude but looked like they didn't want to be there.
They are the best ones in my opinion. Maybe it was the time of year you went. I always go there when visiting Skegness and can never fault them but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Even though it's officially known as the High Street, it's more commonly known as Chip Pan Alley, even though there are only about 3 Chip Shops along there now. The last time I was in Trawlers Catch the food was excellent, Lee. Glad you checked out Raff55, we always make a point of having a Breakfast there whenever we visit, great value. Another good Chip Shop is Salt's on Roman Bank Road, it's just past The Ship Pub opposite the Co-Op as you head towards Northshore Holiday Centre and Winthorpe.

I agree; I just don't understand where these awards come from. The worst f&c I've had in recent years was from Mansfield's 'best' chippy. I'll not name and shame them, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they were having an off day, but the meal was so greasy that the oil soaked through four layers of best chip-shop paper and absolutely soaked my trouser legs.

A couple of months ago, the wife and I were in a fish & chip restaurant in Croma, Norfolk run by a TV chef (apparently). The fish was very thin to the point of more batter than fish.
You deffo need to come back to skeg if you think that's the worst fish and chips. Please come try the marine boathouse for there carvery it's horrendous. This video was gold keep it up 🤣😁👍

Great review and not without being deserved. Absolutely love some of the music you use on your videos - especially ‘A Simple Kiss’ at the beginning, i’ve found so many new songs - very much my sort of my music. The Trawlers Catch looks just like a beach bar I visited in Daytona Beach in Florida a few years ago albeit with less sand and broken ceiling fans than that bar as Hurricane Irma had gone through the week before lol. Got charged £7.15 for pie and chips at hilldeane chip shop in harold hill romford. The large chips are a normal chip shops small portion, no exaggeration.
Yah as a local you should have gone to Eption's( High street), Salt's(Roman bank) or evan Cod and Cockerell on Wainfleet Road in or out of season you can all ways get good service then again as a local if your face fits then you get fresh fish and no redipped chips...
Couldn’t agree more with you Lee. They didn’t look good at all. I’ve never seen cod that thin before. You’d expect it with haddock but cod is meant to be chunkier, even at that price. We weren’t impressed with the food at Skeggy either when we went last year. I may be wrong but I think this is the first time I’ve seen you not order a curry sauce🤔? Looked ok it is dirt cheap even for that quality the costs for that dish would be minimum £2/2.50 in 2022 at that level that is very little profit if any
I have lived away from England for so long I don't think I would be a very good judge on quality, that said I do know that finding quality fish and chips in Australia; is like searching for the Holy Grail!! as a lad; the little chip shop at Skipsea was fantastic, I would always spend my "gambling" money (Nanna's donation to go and bugger off and leave her in peace) on a battered sausage, chips with scraps!! @the macmaster have you thought about doing fish n chip van reviews, we had a fantastic one come to our cannock work and they did orange battered chips and they were truly amazing over 100 people had them at our work and they recieved so much praise for being the best chips

OMG I've had 10 times worse fish & chips than that!!! Every chip hard and uncooked, green with eyes left in!! The fish sooooo greasy that the batter slid off the fish!! I know looks can be deceiving but that looked half decent!! I think you've been spoiled Macmaster!! Forget the best chippies you need to hit the worse in the New Year!! You are in for a shock!!!! Only been to Skegness once, in 2006, and my mate Steve, from Leicester (another East Midlands Lad!) recomended me looking up Chip Pan Alley, as he called it. I think it was Eptons I ate at, and they were brilliant! As a general rule of thumb, at seaside resorts, always look for a chippy in the back streets, as those on the Prom tend to cater for the lowest common denominator!
Had the same when I went to Scarborough Looked up on a review website found the lifeboat chipy. So me and my wife went there all I can say way terrible. Fish and chips tasted burnt. And we're very Greasy. Did a review online within minutes had a response from the owner. Saying if I wasn't happy should have taken them back and he would have replaced them , all I can say is he was quite happy to sell them to me in the first place. So no I believe gave them 3 stars. That was generous. Was supposed to be five star chippy. I don't think so.

Don't know Steels Rest but my late mother was from Cleethorpes and still remember going to Beckets as a kid for the proper sit down fish and chips with bread and butter. Blooming marvellous! I'm 62 now so must of been good if I remember it still!! Unfortunately down South now but will hopefully make it back for those fish and chips again, a ride on the miniature railway and a few pennies in Wonderland. Up the Mariners!!
A friend of mine always says that the mini fish are never as nice or as good as a large one, but I understand that some folk like smaller portions. Who knows if a large fish would have been better here, I don't know, but the fish here didn't look too great, plus it was greasy and had a hair on it. For me, the chips looked average and on a par with most chippies nowadays, nowt to shout about . I too hate anaemic looking chips, I want mine golden brown in colour. You've had paler one's elsewhere though, Lee. Merry christmas to you, Lee, hope you have a good one.
We always go to Tony's chippy next door to where you went the one with the green lettering never had a bad fish and chips in all the times I have been there
Must have caught them on a bad day Lee. We've been few times and mini fish and chips usually far better than that! Shame it wasn't very good. Tates in Boston is good! Expensive but nice. Can't really rate a place on one visit!

Best chippy in Skeggy is a proper little chippy just round the corner from Raff55. Always go there for fish and chips.

Only been to Skegness once, in 2006, and my mate Steve, from Leicester (another East Midlands Lad!) recomended me looking up Chip Pan Alley, as he called it. I think it was Eptons I ate at, and they were brilliant!
As a general rule of thumb, at seaside resorts, always look for a chippy in the back streets, as those on the Prom tend to cater for the lowest common denominator!

So me and my wife went there all I can say way terrible.
Fish and chips tasted burnt. And we're very Greasy. Did a review online within minutes had a response from the owner.
Saying if I wasn't happy should have taken them back and he would have replaced them , all I can say is he was quite happy to sell them to me in the first place.
So no I believe gave them 3 stars.
That was generous.

Don't know Steels Rest but my late mother was from Cleethorpes and still remember going to Beckets as a kid for the proper sit down fish and chips with bread and butter. Blooming marvellous! I'm 62 now so must of been good if I remember it still!! Unfortunately down South now but will hopefully make it back for those fish and chips again, a ride on the miniature railway and a few pennies in Wonderland. Up the Mariners!!
A friend of mine always says that the mini fish are never as nice or as good as a large one, but I understand that some folk like smaller portions. Who knows if a large fish would have been better here, I don't know, but the fish here didn't look too great, plus it was greasy and had a hair on it. For me, the chips looked average and on a par with most chippies nowadays, nowt to shout about . I too hate anaemic looking chips, I want mine golden brown in colour. You've had paler one's elsewhere though, Lee. Merry christmas to you, Lee, hope you have a good one.
We always go to Tony's chippy next door to where you went the one with the green lettering never had a bad fish and chips in all the times I have been there
Must have caught them on a bad day Lee. We've been few times and mini fish and chips usually far better than that! Shame it wasn't very good. Tates in Boston is good! Expensive but nice.
