Snow Trains: Foothills of the Oregon Cascades (4K) | UP Brooklyn Sub | Dec. 2021 | DJI Inspire 2

- In the final week of 2021 Western Oregon got hit with a rare snowstorm that blanketed much of the Western region almost all the way to the coastline. I was fortunate enough to be able to take advantage of this and capture some trains on my home route, the UP Brooklyn Subdivision. It's always exciting to be able to film action in these regular spots of mine when snow hits. The locations are as follows:
-Eugene
-Lookout Point Lake (Minnow Siding)
-Westfir
-South of Springfield
-North of Dexter
-North of Westfir (Tunnel 21)
This video features three trains with one being on each day. Dec. 26th, 27th, and 28th.
These scenes were filmed with the professional DJI Inspire 2 drone and the DJI Osmo Action.

While I'm not a big "snow" fan, this was a fun video to watch...and made in your own backyard no less...While snow in my area causes problems, ice storms cause havoc...thank goodness we havn't had one in a long time! Music was perfect for this video! Thank you!
Oh my gosh yes I can be understanding of that. I'm glad it hasn't happened in a long time. I haven't had to deal with much of anything like that so I count myself lucky. Hopefully it isn't a problem ever again.
Of the several rail fan videos I like to watch (and I enjoy them all), yours are the most.........different.

The just after dusk scene is absolutely amazing. I have watched it over and over. Been following you for some time now. In fact, your videos are the reason I have switched my train modeling from Midwest N scale to Mountain Ho Scale. I may show a few screen grabs from this video on my channel and see if I can increase your views. I hope you do not mind. Everyone should be aware of your videos, they are not only inspiring, but also very useful to those of us who model USA trains.

That would be alright if you wanted to show screen grabs to promote me and point your viewers in my direction! I'll take all the publicity I can get. I'm humbled by your opinion of me. A lot of time and effort goes into filming everything but I love it and it's all worth it. I have been on the Evanston Sub once for the inaugural run of the 4014 Big Boy and I am excited to get back there again someday. It's a great region and the rail traffic is better than a lot of other places as well!
This was truly mind-bending. I posted it on my Facebook page, and told people that even if they were not into trains, they would adore this scenic video. It got Likes.
This is stunning work of professional quality. Honestly (and I mean it): Look for film festivals (or similar) who accept these types of submissions. Short form, scenic, Winter, on and on, whatever category you can wedge it into. Submit it.

I am extremely satisfied with how that night scene turned out. That is one of the best cameras on a drone to use in low light like that (Zenmuse X5S).

Thanks a lot Bruce! Less than a week after this I was in 8 degrees on the Deschutes River and I knew that was cold when my IPad started to fail on me while flying because it got too cold to operate! Luckily all was alright but that was a first. Those devices are horrible in the heat and now I also know that they don't work in the cold either!

Very well done. I swear every one you do is better than the last. The after dusk was my favorite. There are several scenes in the after dusk section I bet you could put in frames and sell for wall hangings. I know I'd be trying to get one. Thank you for what you do.

It seems funny that the SD70Ms now rarely lead trains (of course they're not DPU equipped). Seems like just yesterday they were brand spankin' new and found on the points of UPs hottest trains.

Another awesome video. I know awhile ago you talked about being a little discouraged. Trains in the snow make them that much more awesome and I don't know how close you live to the snow and the railroads that go through the area, but you could easily take videos from the ground of trains in the snow and post those as well. Maybe have your drone channel and a ground channel or stagger the videos on this channel with drone week 1 and ground week 2. It's just a thought.

Great video, Dan! The trains traveling through the light snow on the ground looked beautiful. Thank you for going out and capturing these trains near the end of 2021 and for uploading this video for us to watch. Does the Pacific Ocean usually protect the areas along the Pacific coast of Oregon from snow becasue the ocean is usually warmer that the surronding air?
Thanks a lot Thomas! You know I couldn't tell you why but Western Oregon (and Southern Oregon) really don't have any kind of extreme weather either way except for lots of rain. It very rarely gets extremely hot here and it does get cold but rarely does it go into the teens for degrees. I'd say we have it pretty good here for the most part.
