- TPG's Nicky and Liam are racing to Busan from Seoul, South Korea! Nicky will be flying on Korean Air while Liam takes the bullet train on KTX First Class to see which option is more efficient. Usually, there are wireless charging devices on KTX, so you can charge your phone. As a Korean, I feel sorry for getting on a train that has no chargers😢
I LOVE these vids. If given a choice between flying and taking a high speed train, I ALWAYS choose the train. Also, PLEASE get a gimbal.

Top of the Space Needle in Seattle to the Cannon in Stanley Park in Vancouver. Train vs Plane, public transport only. Now that would be a race to see!😊

The lack of service is pretty normal for trains in Asia. Japanese Shinkansen trains also don't have free food provided in Green (first) class, though there is a trolley service you can pay for. There is a 'super first class', called gran class on some of the longest distance trains in Japan, with an airline business style seat and with a small meal service (more of a snack tho tbh), but this KTX 1st is a similar service to Japanese green class
And in fact also in much of Europe. I think the UK is one of the only exceptions. This KTX train is actually a French TGV, with the same level of comfort and service you'd find in France.

@@anonomia5535 Yep. The KTX Model 1 is the one that is similar to the TGV, whereas there is another modern variant of the KTX line known as KTX II or KTX-Samcheon.
The green car Shinkansen trolley service has been eliminated as of 2024.
Indian trains do give food for 1st class passengers in Vande Bharat Trains & overnight sleeper trains which is included in the ticket price itself.

@5:18 That is first class on the KTX's oldest High Speed Trains, First class on the new ones, have backseat TV's and insane quality.
Pretty much. The KTX-I models have barely changed since their debut in 2004. The KTX-II is a bit better in specs and was made by Hyundai Rotem in 2010 where the KTX-I was originally made by Alstom, hence the similarity to TGV. If you go ride SRT, they have the same train model as the KTX-II, with even better interiors that have power outlets and a unique station from where they operate. First class on the KTX-I is like economy on the SRT
2-2 배열의 우등실은 일반실과 거의 차이가 없음. 특실의 장점이 1인석이고 항상 1인석이 먼저 팔림. 우등실의 AVOD는 휴대폰과 노트북이 있는데 굳이 사용할 가치가 없다. 청룡이 서대동부만 정차한다고 해도 특실만 이용했던 사람 입장에서는 돈값 못하는 청룡 우등실보다 기존 KTX 특실을 이용하는 것이 더 편함. 우등실은 법인카드로 기차타는 비즈니스 목적 아닌 이상 돈이 매우 아깝다.

Do aer Lingus long haul
Preferred modes depend on your origin and destination, and a cost.
In Seoul, Gimpo Airport is in west Seoul, Express Bus Terminal is in south Seoul, East Seoul Terminal is in east Seoul, Seoul Station is in central Seoul, and Suseo Station is in south-east Seoul.
In Busan, Gimhae Airport is in west Busan, Nopo Bus Terminal is in north Busan, Haeundae Intercity Bus Stop is in east Busan, and Busan Station is in south Busan.
In addition, a new KTX-Eum service will soon be launched in late 2024, which will connect Cheongnyangni Station (east Seoul) and Bujeon Station (central Busan) via Sinhaeundae Station (east Busan).
Basically, where you start and end will mostly decide what you should use, but in terms of cost, intercity bus and Mugunghwa-ho (traditional long-distance train) are usually the cheapest options. High-speed trains are not very expensive but hard to get tickets because of higher demands. Planes are the least preferred option unless your point is in west Seoul, yet if it is possible to get heavily discounted tickets, it can be par with high-speed trains.
Likewise, similar things happen when you drive on highway (expressway, technically) network as there are multiple routes. Tolls will be little cheaper than that of public transportation options, but gas prices are crazily expensive in South Korea; hence, driving your own car (if not taking other passengers) is the most expensive option, generally.
I love love LOVED the movie Train to Busan (same with Peninsula- definitely give that a watch too!), this could be a fun series ultimately about different routes from film/tv/books/etc. !
Flight within korea and Japan can be turbulent. Right now it is a monsoon season plus jetstream flow from central asia and mongolia etc does flow directly over the peninsular. Which makes it one of most turbulent region to fly in the world.

That's because it is! Korea's KTX-1 was based on Alstom's TGV and KTX-2 based on a tech-transfer agreement so it's still kinda-sorta-TGV.

It actually is. First version of KTX was supplied by Alstom. Now all KTX trains are manufactured by Hyundai Rotem.

A lot of fun. Videos are so well produced. I had a feeling Nicky would turn into a zombie. Train First was a bit disappointing in terms of what it offered.
Maybe you should race:
From Paris to Amsterdam: 3 hours and 22 minutes by train vs. 1 hour and 15 minutes flight.
From Zurich to Milan: 3 hours and 17 minutes by train vs. 55 minute flight.
From Milan to Rome: 3 hours and 5 minutes by train vs. 1 hour and 10 minutes flight.
From Beijing to Shanghai: 4 hours and 24 minutes by train vs. 1 hour and 55 minutes flight.

Asiana A350 does not operate in Gimpo Airport. It was hard to see but probably he pointed out Asiana A321 or A330.
It's an A330 or B767. Asiana operates A350's from the larger Incheon Airport.

These races are quite cool, however they always loose meaning as soon as they take cabs to the final destination: they should use public transport only (buses/metro)

KTX 중에서 KTX 산천이라는 열차종류가 있습니다. 그 열차는 더 최신 열차라 더 깔끔하며 조명도 더 밝고, 무선충전기가 있으며 콘센트도 있습니다.

lcc flights are much cheaper. The fare is similar to KTX or cheaper depending on the time of day. It is expensive because you take FSC.
You should try Copenhagen to Aarhus start either at Rådhuspladsen, Tivoli or Nyhavn and go to Aarhus and stop at Aros or something
You need to do an indian overnight sleeper train. Nicky as a torture in the overfilled sleeper train and the other guy flies first class airplane...
I like how they suggested that 1st class trains are nicer in Europe. I've been on plenty and that is pretty standard.
In the case of ktx-1, which is said to have a first class, it was licensed production as a motif of an old TGV model made in the late 90s, so there must be a reason why it can feel quite ordinary, not only quite old
If you liked Train to Busan (pronounced Pusan) then watch Peninsula movie as its the prequel. Another fun fact the leading man in Train to Busan played the train station manager in Squid Game and soon to be Squid Game 2.

Transportation in Korea is a bit expensive.
Seoul airport (x) -> Gimpo airport (o) / Busan airport (x) -> Gimhae airport (o). FYI, the airport name Seoul airport is a military airport located in the southeastern adjacent city of Seoul.

There is no service in first ķclass trains across Asia this is the norm in Japan and china too and you have to book gran class in Japan and business class in china to get food service as these are the ultra expensive first class

Yep domestic Korean air travel is best suited for international conection out of Seoul otherwise for domestic travel the train is the way to go given the state is roughly the size of Indiana.
