Love your idea, I would put some fun foam in the lid to make your round foam stand out just a little more. Just get a circle die about the same size as your foam applicator.
That's a great idea! I found these to work pretty well, considering, but if they do start to deflate, so to speak, I will definitely go that route! Thanks for watching! 😍
Wonderful idea! I made these exactly the way Kathya demonstrated and I ran into a problem after about a month. The velcro came off the foam because of the moisture in the jars. If anyone has any ideas of how to solve this I would really appreciate hearing your thoughts! I have pealed off the velcro and I am looking for a glue that will stick in water so I can reattach the foam to the lids. Kathya responded with a suggestion to try hot glue to reattach the foam to the lids! What a clever lady!!! It's working! Thank you so much Kathya! I appreciate you and your clever ideas!!!
So impressed, I am thinking of doing this instead of buying regular ink pads! I am fairly new to stamping & currently only have a few, so this would be a way to more affordably expand my collection.
Oh. My. Gosh. I was literally shopping for mini ink pads for my travel pack and couldn't make up my mind. I was looking for an ink refresher recipe and found this video. WOW!!!! Thanks so very much for posting this!!!❤❤❤
Love this idea...the ink should stay juicy longer since the storage container is a screw top. It's much cheaper to buy just the ink refill bottle than both the stamp pad AND the refill bottle. Thanks!
I like the idea of making these for friends. I have some friends that I have been considering giving card kits to with my older, discontinued stamps but they don’t have inks. These would be perfect as I have a lot of old reinkers. Thanks!
You DO realize your friends will come to hate you as well as love you...Right? For YEARS I resisted the temptation of joining in with a dear friend’s addiction until finally at the beginning of 2018 I succumbed! Now I have a hoarder’s stash and NO craft room to “play” in, let alone store my goodies in!! 😩😫😭😢☹️🙁😕. In truth, your idea of “KITS” is SUPER!!! Ideally, whatever you share will most likely not take up much more space than, say, a book. Oooo...I can see a WHOLE NEW USE for unused dvd and/or vcr cases!!!
Love this!! For me this is a great money saver. I can make various custom colors rather than buying every shade of ink pad I want. Thanks for the idea and tutorial! Very creative and useful!
I have done this with re-inkers I had and empty ink-pads so I didn't have to buy the actual ink pads. After more then a year they are still juicy. 😊 I think to give these as Christmas gifts is a brilliant idea. 🥰 Also love the idea of making the custom colours. 👍🏼
What an AHHHMAZING idea. I can't afford ink pads, so I buy reinkers. I would buy blank cubes or the 2x3 pads with sponge pads. This is better though as the foam is more sturdy. I will be ordering some of these today for my new inks.
Great idea, especially if one already has the reinkers and desires custom colors, but I would have liked to see you use these on an actual stamping project, and also give an approximate total cost per pad in comparison to some of the mini ink pads already on the market.
I hear you. I didn’t even think of the cost comparison. I was coming from a standpoint of being able to take all these mini ink pads on the go instead of large bulky ink pads. I know they’re less expensive due to the mini jars being very cost savings and reinkers being less expensive than an ink pad. I suppose it might be easy to calculate the cost, depending on what ink pad brands are your favorite. I will use them in an upcoming video. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching!
What a handy idea. I would think that your mini-ink rounds could be used for other liquids, like shimmer sprays or even glue or embossing medium. Thank you ☺
I love this idea, and especially for using on the misty stamping tool, just as you said! Brilliant! It’s really expensive to build up a nice ink pad with refills inventory and this way I really only need to order reinkers of many new colors in the future! I am going on Amazon right now to order my supplies!

What a great way to create a collection of inkpads that are easy to store! I live in the southwest USA which is hot and DRY. I now only buy inkpads that offer reinkers. I am also limited in space to store them. You can buy a few reinkers from various brands and make these mini pads to decide what, or if, you want to commit further. I have put the jars in my Amazon list because this solution is better than the DIY I tried before. Thanks for a great idea!
You’re very welcome! I have learned over time, too, that when your ink pad dies up, the ink remains but the ‘fluid’-the carrier of the ink-evaporates. So, I started buying ink refresher. Instead of re-inkers. I haven’t tried the re-inker refresher on my CP inks yet, but I plan to try it because the properties are similar to distress inks. Thanks for watching! ♥️
@@KathyaKalinine for my first 10 years of card making all of my ink pads were secondhand fines at garage sales etc, and I kept them going with the DIY ink pad refresher! The frugal Crafter impressed me early on with her money saving ideas and she had the refresher recipe of distilled water, glycerin, and a little alcohol. It worked great but I really use those ink pads up and as my arthritis got worse they were difficult to use because they were rangers felt pads. I ended up buying the entire set of Concord and 9th cubes and a set of reinkers for them. I built my own ink pad storage with phone core board and made little drawers for that set of inks and I can put four cubes in the space of one full size ink pad. It was a must do because I only have so much space in my craft room. It's already tight in there. Where there's a will there's a way.
Love it! I craft in a small space, too. At my age, I’m starting to notice wrist issues, too. I like your foam core storage system. I love to DIY! Great idea, Kathya! I don’t typically buy trinkets since I haven’t needed to reink my large felt pads yet, but if I had them I’d likely make some custom colors.
When I had the opportunity I sprung for Distress Re-Inkers instead of pads, as, after watching so many y.t. vids on D.I. techniques, THAT seemed the way to go.

Love this. Just started paper crafting so I think a binge of your video’s and I will learn a lot. You explain everything so well and your ideas and cards are amazing. ❤🎉 x
Thank you for this video and excellent idea. I have made some of these but the ink on the foam is too “juicy” and the inked image feathers out and balloons so the script isn’t legible. Any ideas or thoughts about what I may have done wrong?
You may have just used too much ink on the little pads. You could make some colored card stock by removing some of the excess ink and die cut shapes from them. Also, I’m not sure these little ink pads are best suited for small sentiments, but what you could try is stamp on a scrap piece of paper and then stamp on your project. I hope this helps! ♥️
Love this idea for my Stampin Up inks as I feel some of my ink pads dry out. Can I ask since this video was two years ago.....how are they holding up? Do you still like them? Do they stay wet or did they dry out? Are they easy to hold or do you find you get ink on your fingers? Thanks so much!
Hi! I haven’t used them in a good while, but like any ink pads I have, I’m sure they’re dry by now. But all that means is the water evaporated from the container. It happens to all my ink pads over time. I always keep ink pad refreshers on hand, because the ink (pigment/color) is still there, but it just needs to be rehydrated. I have found that mixing a few drops of glycerine with water and applied to the ink pad does the trick. You just want to move that ink around to get it thoroughly saturated. I hope that helps! ♥️ I would say they are relatively easy to hold. I initially made them so I could take all my inks in smaller scale form when we go on family vacations. Great way to bring favorites when traveling. 😊
Thanks, Autumn! Not sure. I haven’t tried yet but might be a good idea to test on scrap paper instead of a project. I hate when I ruin my work by not texting on scrap paper first.
What a great idea. Thank you for sharing your ideas. I know what you mean about all the beautiful ink shelves that you see in videos. I watched my first video of your idea on coloring die cuts. I signed up so I don't miss any of your videos.
This is such a great idea, I can't wait to try it. I'm also excited about storing custom colors and not creating a pad until I need to use a specific color. I see this works great for a flat full-color stamp, I'm wondering how it works inking up a stamp with outlines since the sponge is a dome shape and not flat like a regular ink pad. Will the color get into the crevices it's not supposed to? Thanks so much for sharing.
Hi Abigail! The domes are not super soft, so that helps. I haven’t used them on very large stamps-just smaller areas without big dips in the stamp, so to speak. I haven’t used these mini custom ink pads in about 3 months but I just opened some a couple weeks ago and they’re still juicy. I suppose it just depends on how much you saturate the little domes. I’m glad you’re inspired! Keep me posted if you make some! ♥️
You'll have to keep us updated on how well these last! I've been thinking about investing in some new inks and reinkers, but if I could just buy the reinkers and not ink pads, that would be a great way to save $.
Will do! I made a couple about two weeks prior to recoding this video. Since the mini pots have screw top lids, the ink stays juicy. I will keep you all posted, though! 😊
Thank you! This was a brilliant idea. I have made over 40 pads, some with homemade inks! They work beautifully. I am so glad you posted this. Scrapbook.com must wonder why I need so many of these foam pads.
Ann Eslinger AGREED!! I bought some shallow ink-pad-sized plastic containers from a’zon to do just that, BUT I need to find flat rectangular “foundation sponges” to use in them! Let me know - ANYBODY - if you have a source idea for those. ((Wish there was a way to securely contact you, Ann E., as I’ve “inherited” a friend’s stash of re-inkers (& pads) that I know I won’t use up in one lifetime!! I’d gladly share!!!))
@@wmwilson30 It’s been a while since I looked at what I “inherited”, so I’ll have to see what I have. Do you have an idea what TYPES of ink you’re interested in?

I’m glad it was helpful! 😊
Love the idea of creating your own color. These look great and would make excellent gifts especially for someone who's just starting out. TFS😊❤
Brilliant! Can you use them for ink blending?
Thanks, Autumn! Not sure. I haven’t tried yet but might be a good idea to test on scrap paper instead of a project. I hate when I ruin my work by not texting on scrap paper first.
This is absolutely fascinating!
Glad you enjoyed! ♥️
Love this idea. Will certainly make some of these. Thanks for sharing.
I work overnights and I am able to craft at work sometimes. Taking my ink pad to work is no convenient but these would be perfect.
Awesome! I love how portable they are! 🥰
Love this idea!
Thanks for watching! Hope it inspires you! 😊

Great video. Awesome idea
Thanks! 😍
What a great idea. Thank you for sharing your ideas. I know what you mean about all the beautiful ink shelves that you see in videos. I watched my first video of your idea on coloring die cuts. I signed up so I don't miss any of your videos.
Awesome! I’m currently planning another video that I will post this weekend. Thanks for subscribing! ♥️
What a brilliant idea! Love the little ink pads that you made!
So glad you enjoyed! Happy Easter!🐣
Great!
Thanks, Anja! 🥰
new subbie here, and i really am enjoying your creativity. more power
Thank you and welcome! ♥️
Quite creative Kathya!!! Love it. 😁😁🎨
Thank you, Ingrid! 😘
OK who wants to make me a set of inks??? 😂 This is brilliant!!
Lol! 😂🥰 Glad it made you giggle! 😉
I was just wondering how these have held up & if you have any tips after using them for several months. Thank you!
They have held up beautifully! When my health issue subsides, I will do an update and post a video. Thank you for watching! 😍
This is a great idea I’d love to try this one day as a party favor for a crafty meet up 💕💕💕💕
Several folks have mentioned they might try that! Glad you found it helpful! ♥️
This is such a cool idea! You can take this anywhere so easily. And the gifting idea is great!
Agreed! Crafting on the go! 😊
@@marywagner9927 Ha ha! I plan on ordering more, too! So glad this worked for you as well!
Great idea very smart thank you
You’re so welcome!

Genius! I need to find a crafty friend that doesn’t have the same inks I do! I need those CP inks for sure!
You’ll love it! Super handy and I just used them on a card and the sponges did not dry out! Have fun and thanks for watching!
Hi what would you suggest would be the best ink sets would be the best to get to started with? Thank you and really appreciate your help ❤ xx
Hi! I think you should get some colors that you’re really drawn to. I really like Catherine Pooler inks but I honestly want to branch out and try some inks from different manufacturers. I love bright colors but choose what you like! ♥️🥰
