Stevie went head to head on stage with some of the best blues guitarists of the day and every one of them had mad respect for his talent and style… BB, Clapton, to name a couple. They bounced back and forth and had a jam session on stage in front of their audiences at music festivals and Stevie didn’t play the guitar like the others… he gave that guitar a singing voice of its own and pushed his soul through that guitar and was basically having an out of body experience while on stage.
I saw Stevie Ray on his first tour. My drummers mother was a photographer for the local paper and we got to see Stevie pressed right up against the stage! I will remember that show all of my life!! It was like a tornado was loose on the stage!
He was considered a legend by the legends because the way he played and respected them he loved the ones that come before him and wanted the people that like him to experience the music and legends he listened to when he was up and coming

I have watched this performance a bunch, but I was getting the shivers and goose bumps all over too! I remember back in the day how much I loved listening to every new album he released, and I guess we all took it for granted that he was going to just keep putting out more music, and then how devastating it was the day he died. He was my husband at the time's favorite guitar player too, and it was a sad day in our house for sure. I taught myself to play keyboards to his Soul to Soul album, and my husband played his guitar (and made funny guitar faces) trying to play as much like SRV as he could. How sad that all the best ones get taken away from us so young. 😮💨 But for me, Johnny Copeland stood toe to toe with SRV the best of anyone. I enjoyed his performance every bit as much as SRV's in this song. Great reaction video and thank you! 🎵💃🎸🎶
🙌👏🎸💙🎶Great reaction! This is a master class in down and dirty blues by two of the best that ever did it. And yes these artists were able to make their guitars sing for them. There was magic going on here and the band members felt it for sure. Johnny played three songs with them that night. The one they were getting ready to do after this was "Look At Little Sister" which is a rocking jam that you would love. And please don't assume you need to filter Stevie's videos. Almost all of them are not blocked; this venue , Austin City Limits, Capitol Theatre, Toyko concert etc. One thing you need to know about Stevie is that he never played a song the same way twice as he always played in the moment. Listening to this song from Toyko for instance has a completely different treatment. Keep going as there are many more musical delights for you to discover from this amazing artist🎸🎶‼️
Sadly I had the privilege of seeing Stevie Ray Vaughn's last concert the night his helicopter crashed after the show at Alpine Valley Wisconsin August 26th 1990 The fog was so bad that we stopped and got a hotel room on the way home. The lineup was SRV, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray and Buddy Guy. RIP SRV 🎸

Here's a comment from Eric Clapton about Stevie's playing (paraphrased). He said that Stevie never had to stop and figure out where to go next in his playing the way other guitarists did (including himself) - that he was an open channel to the music, that it just flowed through him. He also said that it was very intimidating to have to take the stage behind him... that no one wanted to follow him onstage. Also, look at the videos, such as this one, where he's playing with any of the Greats of Blues music. You will SEE and HEAR the respect and love that he had for them - and that they had for him. He was humble, he was kind, and he didn't see color - he only saw PEOPLE. How I wish that after all the years since his passing that more of us could do the same. Johnny Copeland was a Blues artist fome the 1950- 1997, in 1956 he was a popular touring act for 20 years and his first recording was in 1956 called Rock And Roll Lily, he was known more for his singing than guitar playing. In 1981 he won a W.C.Handy National Blues Award, in 1987 he won a Grammy for his Blues album called Show Down. He was a guest he of Stevie Ray and Double Trouble at the Montreux Jazz Festival, he had a heart transplant but 6 months later he died of a heart attack on July, 3 1997. Stevie Ray Vaughan said because he never learned to read music he played from the heart, he said if he had to look at his hands to look at cords it would mess him all up. Stevie Ray never used a play list because he played from the heart he never knew what or how he was going to play until he got on stage. That just goes to show you how amazing Double Trouble was to keep up with Stevie Ray and never miss a beat was something I don't think just any band could do. Stevie Ray could play the Drums and Saxophone, on the song The Sky Is Crying from his album The Sky Is Crying Stevie Ray played the drums and guitar for that song. Love your reactions

SRV practiced constantly. He listened and learned from his brother Jimmy but his biggest influence was probably Albert King. He was humble. He was wide open to the universe and there was no static. Just pure truth and faith to the muse

As a young man, I was privileged to sit in a one on one with Sun House. He said “The Blues Ain’t nothin’ But A Low-down Shakin’ Chill, if you Ain’t Never Had ‘Em, I shure hope ya Never Will”. The greatest actor in the world could not fake, improvise or ad-lib the same reactions Stevie's body had with every pluck of the guitar string.
Austin City Limits in 89 show was his last one there before his passing in 8/90. He was sober for a couple years by then. “Look at Little Sister”is a must see. He played on strings way thicker & much harder to play for most. He could still bend them strings & make ‘em sing & break them often. In Voodoo Child he bent the hell out of ‘em & in “ Mary had a Little Lamb” which is one of my favs. Congrats on going down this SRV rabbit hole. He never disappoints. Enjoyed your reaction & now I want to see this whole show. I think they did 2 more songs after this one. I’m going to look right now for it.
