- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- We’re back working on our 23’ V-Bottom skiff, but before that we’re taking a trip back to New England Naval Timbers to see our good friend Duke about sourcing an extremely large flitch for the keel on our ORCA rebuild. Stay tuned for more videos and big announcements coming soon!

what a lost art, beautiful
Thanks for continuing to upload during the pandemic and election. Really appreciate something normal.
I love the crickets in the background. These guys are doing this after their normal jobs to teach us a dying art. I’m very grateful for Lou’s lessons.
Those are some massively wide side planks. I love it. Can not wait to witness the progression of this build. The shape of this hull came to so quickly with just a stem and two planks. This is wonderful to behold. Loving this and the build on the other channel immensely. Thanks so much for sharing your craft with us Lou. I'm not sure you truely realise how much I appreciate it.
God speed and keep you safe and healthy.
The master shipwright at work. Sheer pleasure, joy and happyness to see him work.
I was always told "none of your beeswax". Thank you for sharing yours.
Knowin’ when to stop sawin’ is more important than knowin’ when to start. Thanks Lou
I know im asking the wrong place but does anyone know a way to log back into an Instagram account?
I somehow lost my password. I appreciate any help you can offer me.
@Cohen Junior instablaster :)
@Benton Hudson thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Benton Hudson it did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much you saved my ass!
@Cohen Junior no problem :D
I'm always amazed by your intelligence and skill. Thanks for letting me be a fly on the wall.Cheers!
This is my favorite part because it is starting to look like a boat, and your imagination starts to go!
Can't wait for the next episode.
Definitely. The view around 15:30 ...I could look at it for half an hour. That's wood boat centerfold material LoL
It’s a joy watching a master craftsman at work.
I have told you this before I think but you remind me of my Uncle Bruce who was a Shipwright in Little Washington NC back when I was a kid. I wish he was still alive. He would enjoy watching your channel and all the boats and ships you build.
She's going to be a beauty! Love the lines of the planks.
Thank you Lou for another episode on the skiff build. I know there is a lot more work that goes into building these, but you make it look so simple and easy. That planking is amazing. You are truly in boat building heaven there. Take care and see you next week.
A real master of the trade...
My father always used a bar of soap to lube up wood screws. He worked in the wood shop at the Curtis bay coast guard yard from 48to 87. He was old school !
It's pretty cool you get to use your father's beeswax. My father has also passed and it's a joy to use some of the tools I have of his.
My dad didn't have any tools to speak of so I just used a bar of lifebuoy soap to lubricate my screws LoL
@@pakde8002 does it still taste the same as when you said something a young boy should not have when you were younger?
I learned from my grandfather 40 years ago to use knitting wool from sheep in between two pieces of wood. Whenever trying to make a close connection, nail in a zig zag so the wool stays in the middle. Aperently, it has something to do with the way wood expends and shrinks.
great to have you back with a plane and saw in hand. missed this.
Very satisfying to watch. I know that it’s no where as easy as you make it look. You just know what the hell you’re doing.
Beautiful to watch
The Bob Ross of Boat Building!
Just what the doctor ordered! Thanks Lou!
I love your explanations, clearly understating your lifetime of accrued skills!
Thanks Lou for how well you explain your work!
Now it looks like a boat already. Love your channels
Thanks Lou, I am enjoying the series. Stay safe.
My Father used Ivory soap on the fasteners because it was cheaper than need wax and it worked
Awesome, Lou!!!!
I love watching you work.
The planks laid very well on the chine line. Prime quality of lumber for the planks. The nice thing is your not entering a lot of compound stresses into the planking.
Уважаемые судостроители,подскажите пожалуйста,какой состав Луи наносит на конструкцию,черного цвета?А так,чем он натирает шурупы,когда их вкручивает?
Pretty cool that you are still using you father's bees wax.
The master at work.
Love your videos! Please go on!
Thanks !
Hi Lou, you said those planks were quality timber, I say that was an understatement, great idea not to have any edge set in them, looks like you have put a lot of thought into building this boat.
Again master at work ! great job !
Thanks for sharing your skills !!!
I’m having withdrawals here Lou! Hoping all is well and we get an update on the v-bottom! Much love from Ohio, and God bless!
Fantasticly informative video, good production quality.
thanks
gonna be a beauty
Love it. @ 15:12 - awesome!
I'm excited for this one!!!!
Loved it as always.
looking good keeper lit
Nice.
Thank you.
The perfect video to distract me from Monday!
Amazing
Looking forward to each video.
I was wondering if you couldn’t get a full length board . I thinking you would do staggered scarf joints or is there another way ?
I see your working in a new shop. Did you check the floor Lou, making sure it is also level and plumb. Easy to overlook..
Pretty sure he knows what to do.............
My day is now complete ........
I Love this
Great video. Love it as usual. But Lou, please check your nails. My grandson use your nails to justify not washing his. Btw, he is only 4 (almost). 😂
If that bees wax could only talk. Image the “conversations” that took place in the cockpit while Ted Turner owned American Eagle. I’ve heard of bits and pieces from during the Fastnet.
Question: How do you keep the sides symmetrical? When you plan the plank, and bend it into position, How do you make the plank bow just the right amount, and how do you keep track on that bow?
Am I the only one who feels like watching a long awaited boat get built in short spurts in two week intervals is like Chinese water torture?
Hi Lou, Could you use stainless steel screws?
So is the bees wax preferred as it also gives a level of waterproofing inside the screw hole itself, as well as lubrication?
Is that American Eagle, the Coast Guard cutter?
What is the board foot price on that stick? White oak?
What material are the planks ? Lou.
Louis, I made a model near identical to yours 3 years ago except for 26 ft, so I am very excited about the building of your boat. What is your opinion of stainless screws for this same planking purpose?
Just remember there is stainless and Stainless ! some stainless screws are very thin in the core and snap easily, good stainless screws( tapered threaded only to the shank, slotted. are expensive. We always bought bronze screws meant for the boat trade, still expensive and both harder to find than the crappy stuff.
Anyone know what poly black adhesive he used on the chine and stem for the glue up please
Got that new shop?
What type of wood is the planking
I’m still wondering how Lou can drive slotted screws so quickly and effortlessly with a drill.
Years of experience? Oh, and having a bit that fits the screw slot perfectly sure helps.
ME: “Talks smack to my sister about her cheap Ryobi tools verses my expensive Makita…”
ALSO ME: “Lou! Why have you forsaken me (and Makita)?”
lol
👍👍
If I was Caleb, I would pay Lou just to hang out and help him lol.
I hope that kid realizes how lucky he is
Dc: Not a bad idea. And why not? Young people pay universities through the nose to learn from their faculty. Lou teaches like a professor.
The “bottom” that was written on the “top” of the first plank had me wondering until i realized that the boat is upside down haha
Hello my dear friend, I have searched in pdf for the book The Dory Book, by John Gardner, I have got it in pdf, but it has problems, it is scanned and other computer problems, they do not allow translating from English to Spanish. I would like to get it in Spanish. I have tried but I could not. Please, it's good that this was solved and many people would benefit from this. Another thing in Cladas Colombia there are crops of Teak Trees. If you can find out about it, thank you. God Bless you, I hope a prompt response to the concerns, I am a Spanish resident in Colobia, att. Jose Pascual
Impressive channel. It's clear your followers love what you do. I sent you an email and would love to hear your expert opinion on what I'm building and if it has any merit.
If only a power planer had a plank attachment...?
👍👍🙂
american eagle,.,.???? tell us a story bout that boat.,.,
Hello, I am a Spanish person, I do not understand English, could you put the subtitles in Spanish?
Hi everyone, does anyone knows anything about Lou lately? Its just that he hasn’t post any late boat episodes and hope he is OK at these tough times especially with Covid
Why the driver needs a mask in a tractor in the middle of the woods? :D
Hi Lou!!! Do you still have the same e-mail address? I'd like to ask you sth. Cheers!!!
I wish he would speed it up a little lol
I'll say! I've been waiting months for this boat! At least its finally begun. Remarkably I actually built a near identical model but for 26 ft with an option to extend to 28 ft. So that's how impatient I am to have this video move along!
Yeah. I think he's spending most of his time on the Bristol Shiprights channel.
Carbon paper on the batten plank, rub, shows high spots.
BIDEN 2020!
Wearing a mask driving a skidder wow overboard much ? Cdc. Gov
Exactly. My county has fewer than 12 cases in 100,000 people -that's barely a hundredth of one percent and they all still act like its bubonic plague. Pathetic fearmongers.
My wife has been a troll on the cdc website. The death rate is a lie ! We live in mi , leadings cause of death here is heart problems, any one with a iq can do the math doesn’t add up at all.
@@paulbriggs3072, maybe your county has so few cases because they all still act like it's bubonic plague.
You know the part about iq in last reply, apparently Eric’s iq doesn’t make the cut
@@projectpeach7848 That would be "an" IQ. Anyway, if someone has heart problems, then there is a good chance that a respiratory disease like Covid will kill them, thus the figures may indeed be correct (I have no idea, I'm in a different country). That's not to say that Covid will kill everyone with heart issues, nor every death was a result of Covid, but I'm pretty certain that the statistics [for the US] say "where Covid is a factor listed on the death certificate". If you're accusing people of lying, however, you should have some fairly watertight evidence to back it up. In terms of the guy on the video, you simply have no idea of his circumstances. He might have a health issue, he might live with somebody with a health issue, he might be in a job that he simply can't afford to lose, he may be in and out of an enclosed space all day and prefer to keep his mask on. I'd have thought anyone with an IQ would be able to weigh up the risk to themselves and others, versus the reduced risk associated with the extremely minor inconvenience of wearing a mask and make a choice based on their own circumstances and expect others to respect that.
