Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I understand your perspective on willful ignorance. It's interesting to note that human behavior and decision-making are often shaped by a variety of factors, some of which we may not even be aware of.
I'd suggest you to watch my videos on experiments like the Milgram Shock Experiment (ua-cam.com/video/6_YRBmQMznQ/v-deo.html) and the Bobo Doll Experiment (ua-cam.com/video/i16_VD5NHns/v-deo.html) that shed light on how people can behave in unexpected ways due to social influence and learned behaviors. These experiments highlight the complexity of our minds and the intricate interplay between individual choices and external factors.

Or a systemic structure that impedes thought, like keeping a populous in a constant fight for basic needs, such that we're consumed by it. A populous exhausted by living near the edge of losing everything, with that loss including the ability to feed, clothe, shelter, and maintain the health to do that, is going to look for things that relax the mind and ease the need for close scrutiny. Make a person think that access to resources for living is contingent on work, and the game of overpowering their reason becomes a lot easier. Add in shaming people who ask for help and having the ones a smidgen above needing help think they're winning the game, and you have a perfect recipe for a docile public with increasingly fewer people seeing the game... then you hit the education system, making it increasingly difficult to attain and add in fearmongering propaganda.

Yup, very true, wish I could like your comment a thousand times!
I find that people constantly assume I must be as stupid as they are, and they then get angry when they see that this is not the case - and that's when the abuse starts! I have come to the conclusion that it's best to pretend to be stupid - but this is far more difficult than one thinks, lol!
For example, people expect me to be unable to cope with everyday life (a comment I heard just yesterday: "you cannot be trusted with electrical equipment" - this from someone that has never met me). How can I then pretend to be what they expect me to be, to keep them happy and thus prevent them from getting aggressive and abusive, when I am too well spoken to be of that low intelligence level, dressed too well and have to mention (in context) that I work for a living?
I have been arrested for asking critical questions, my career has been destroyed for the same reason and my reputation has been so ruined that nobody in my town even speaks to me. So yes, it's definitely safer to pretend to be stupid.

is it better to be stupid and know it or to think your a genius and not be one? is wisdom more constructive than intelligence? wisdom doesn't come from knowing your being lied to but knowing WHEN your being lied to. there's people who just believe everything they're told and those who believe everything their told is a lie. people seem to no longer be interested in differentiating between subtleties of fact and fiction or reality and fantasy. and the problem is THEY DON'T CARE! apathy, not intolerance, violence, hate or corruption, but apathy remains the biggest threat to humanity.

Bon Hoffer was an outspoken Lutheran pastor. During World War II, he was held captive by the Nazis, and imprisoned for most of the war. He took the time to try to understand how such an advanced culture as was present in Germany before the Nazi takeover, with famous scientists philosophers, and enlightened scholars and thinkers could have gone so far off the rails so easily and quickly. He couldn’t understand why the German people became mesmerized with a message that seemed so counterintuitive to everything the German people represented.
He finally decided there was no explanation except and unwillingness to face the truth. Unfortunately, he was killed by the Nazis in 1945 before the West had a chance to rescue him.
Sadly, our society is suffering from that same mindless uncurious, unquestioning stupidity just as the German people were in the 1930s and 40s.

I've met several religious extremists who believed in nonsense but were otherwise quite intelligent, but any time logic or reason contradicted their faith they rejected it. Many , if not most, folks believe what they want to believe the facts be damned. I admit that I myself have fallen victim to this type of thinking in the past, and may even still be doing it now, despite trying very hard not to do so. I also admit to sometimes caving in to social pressure and pretending to believe just to get along. This is also why I see the mixing of faith and politics as a huge red flag.

At any rate, the last two are certainly much less frequent.” - which is much less punchy.

I'd argue that malice is stupidity. Both cause unethical outcomes, which is what defines stupidity in the first place (negative utility). From a more enlightened perspective, what some would describe as "malice" is in truth its opposite, when unethical individuals are opposed, even violently if needed. Thus being unethical is merely a subset of being wrong, whether violent or not, while violence used in the right context is ethical. "Malice" is far too commonly used to mean violence, which from a childish perspective is "evil" or something similar.

One problem with curing the problem of stupidity is that, as invalid ideologies become more sophisticated, their adherents, especially the ones who truly understand said ideologies are hokum, will create pseudorationales that mimic reason. This provides these invalid ideologies with some inoculation to criticism for a while. The hope of those proffering the snake oil is that, by the time the public realizes the fraud, they will have seized enough power where the ideology can now be enforced through sheer force. Does it matter to these villains that what they are selling is ultimately destructive? No, as most of them figure they will be long dead once posterity decides to hold them accountable for their atrocities.

Maybe this partially explains the advent of 'pack mentality'. Like a motor cyclist, who, on his own, mostly obeys traffic laws and shows some consideration to other motorists, but as soon as he joins a pack of other motor cyclists, his mentality changes dramatically (becomes stupid), throws caution to the wind and behaves as if there are no road laws, and becomes an inconsiderate fool.

I prefer to prepare for the worst possible outcome because to fail to prepare is to prepare to fail. Toxic positivity (ie the theory of "attracting things" one doesn't want) has given rise to a lot of victim blaming.

It takes a lot of work to explore alternatives. It hurts emotionally and psychologically to discover/admit one is wrong. There is also the incredible power of the herd. Just watch a football game where it seems the entire stadium goes berzerk either in joy or anger. It's incredible how swayed individuals are by the masses. This isn't so much stupidity as it is human nature to stay within one's comfort zone. I'm not defending this --it's a critical and crucial weakness of human beings and it is really, really difficult to change.

Imagine being so stupid you don't even understand the definitions of the words you're using...
      Conspiracy
      noun
An agreement to perform together an illegal, wrongful, or subversive act.
      A group of conspirators.
An agreement between two or more persons to commit a crime or accomplish a legal purpose through illegal action.
      Theory
      noun
A set of statements or principles devised to explain a group of facts or phenomena, especially one that has been repeatedly tested or is widely accepted and can be used to make predictions about natural phenomena.
The branch of a science or art consisting of its explanatory statements, accepted principles, and methods of analysis, as opposed to practice.
"a fine musician who had never studied theory."
A set of theorems that constitute a systematic view of a branch of mathematics.

I don't buy that. I admit that it's based on my own experience, but I have never met a believer in conspiracy theories that was lured in by people telling them to be more critical. The whole idea about being skeptical is just an empty slogan they like to parrot. My experience is that people who fall for conspiracy theories, do that for emotional reasons. They feel special. They feel like they have finally seen the truth. They get blinded by that feeling of revelation and spend all their effort ignoring or rejecting everything that does not confirm their "truth". This is ironically what theologians have been doing for ages...

What I came up with for solutions to stupidity: pg 3
Having a conscientious objection or being stubborn can be bad. Sometimes people get stuck in their beliefs. Everyone should keep an open mind and they should not discredit information based on their present beliefs. Failure to question is a bad thing. What helps is you don’t have to accept what is being suggested right away, but at least listen.
Having a lack of concern or being uncaring is bad. You should care and not only care you should get involved. At least by saying something and putting your two cents in.
Do not filter your mind. Take all evidence into account. Don’t discredit some of the information you receive.
Using trace evidence that does not really hold proof. Consider trace evidence for what it is and realize trace evidence is just superficial.
Do not jump to conclusions. Do not assume and predict based on the first thought.
Don’t use too little evidence. Sometimes evidence will guide you, but there may be more possibilities. For example, Someone was at the crime scene. It doesn’t mean they committed the crime. There may have also been another person there at the time that actually committed the crime. Plus, the person that you know was there may not even have known a crime was committed.
Don’t over-commit. For example, a landlord wants to buy another home on credit. If he has one home and he can afford to maintain one that is paid off but wants another home for more income. He has to ask himself if he has enough income to afford a loan on a new home if he can’t rent out that home for say three months or more along with the one he owns.
Spontaneous actions without considering the consequences can be bad. Everyone wants to be able to react fast but always think your actions through. Think twice.
A lack of compassion is a bad thing. Even on the battlefield. If two sides are fighting and there are a lot of men wounded in the middle of the front and the fighting stops. It is good to let the soldiers or medics get the men. If you don’t, your side will pay with bad propaganda.
Being overly submissive is a bad thing. People need to speak up when needed. Otherwise, people could walk all over you, they will overwork you, and they will oppress you.
Failure to anticipate or predict the outcome of any circumstance is bad. Learn how to predict the future.
Having confusing thoughts is bad. Don’t consider two actions at once. Once you decide and pick an option forget about the other option. Organize or compartmentalize, and put things in chronological order, prioritize, and don’t have conflicting thoughts (Don’t be incongruous).
Being all rational with no emotional consideration for others
Misdeeds, whether purposeful or accidental, We should pay attention to our moral compass and what we are doing. Consider ethics and be mindful.
Conflict of interests: For example, for a preacher's son to marry the daughter of a divorce attorney.
Placing too much importance on things and not people.
Accepting you are a stupid person is stupid. You would have labeled yourself. It brings down your confidence in yourself to change. Therefore, it is a curse. Don’t curse yourself. Don’t admit, label, or accept you are a certain way. It is harmful to yourself. Don’t cut yourself down and be too tough on yourself.
One-sided Some things or views are verisimilar. Meaning two views are both correct. Don’t be blinded by your views and evidence to not accept that both parties are right. For example, we need to save money on taxes and the government should not spend a lot. Others may believe we need to spend a lot as an investment to save money in the long run and the money will recirculate into the economy. So, any program saving lives saves money, which is equal to not spending money.
Choosing self-harming goals, Hatred of self and others. Do be an alcoholic harms you and the people around you. Especially if you promote getting drunk. It is stupid. It shortens your life, harms quality of life and harms others by causing the same in others.
Racism Everyone is an individual. Only statistics should be considering race and to do so with the goal of improving things for all races. To stereotype and to possibly hate from statistics is to forget about the individual you might meet. Comedy also has its place with race consideration because it does stereotype sometimes, but it is designed to help matters.
Indifference Your brain does not get too full. It can get distracting. But it does not get too full to have a reason for indifference. You should care about all aspects of life. If you are unsure admit it, by asking enlightening questions. You should still care.
Overly trusting or blind faith People should earn your trust. Don’t just follow someone's lead because they have a lot of money or wear a suit. You have to believe in them through their actions and words.
Hatred for people, not wrongful actions. Hate people's actions if you should or must, but not the person themselves. I am convinced people continue bad behavior that causes people to hate because people hate the person. How can we get the person to change? Love them would be a good start.
Covetous You will never be happy if you want more, more, and more all the time. Sit back and have content with what you have or enjoy what you have. It could be time with someone you love.
Too much infuses on what others think - Having your own pride and satisfaction is important over that. Or if you are concerned with your reputation instead of fixing the problem that caused the reputation to occur. Stop bad behavior. Accept that some things are out of your control. If you try to explain away what happened or didn’t happen it may just draw more negative attention to yourself.
Illusory superiority is a condition of cognitive bias wherein a person overestimates their own qualities and abilities, in relation to the same qualities and abilities of other people. New evidence has associated illusory superiority with negative effects on the individual. It used to be considered good mental health.
Above-average effect, the superiority bias, the leniency error, the sense of relative superiority, the primus inter pares effect,[1] and the Lake Wobegon effect
The Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias[2] whereby people with low ability, expertise, or experience regarding a certain type of task or area of knowledge tend to overestimate their ability or knowledge.
