    Mr beast is kinda boring now. His videos are pure entertainment for kids, zero substance. His old vídeos were good though

    I never get hooked into Mr. Beast's videos, or any similar channels for that matter. Instead, I liked watching art tutorials, case studies, and short stories. Max's videos fall under that genre.
    However, most of my friends are avid influencer fans. Hence it's tough to find someone where we can have deep conversations related to the topic
    So yeah, finding people that I belong to is very challenging for me.

    I've watched Max since his early days before attending college. And the fact that I consume these type of information helps me to understand more and expand my knowledge. But also remembering to repeat things I've already learn.
    Thank you Nathaniel for inviting Max on your podcast.

    I've been watching Max's videos for years, and I was a bit surprised when he decided to attend college, and then not surprised when it didn't end up working out. I certainly understand how college is not for everyone, and it is becoming more difficult to justify from a financial perspective the more expensive it gets to attend. I wonder if I would've felt differently about college if I hadn't attended with my best friend from childhood; we went to same college, we shared a dorm freshman year and continued to live together for the remainder of our time there and my main friend group that I continue to hang out with to this day is centered around the friends I met through him. In some ways I feel like I had my social group handed to me, and I'm lucky considering how shy and introverted I am (my best friend is much more outgoing). Anyway, this video just made me reflect on that time. Keep putting out good UA-cam content. I love the New Wave videos and their quieter, slower, but more real pacing. I've been able to find a number of UA-camrs (including ones focused on travel and books) that keep it simple and small-scale and that's what I seek out. I see a video with millions of views and I often avoid it!

    I just had a pure intention that I have to listen to something from this channel - and suddenly there’s an upload with the guest and topic I’ve been thinking and strategising just yesterday…
    I consider myself a UA-camr of a new generation and I’m having this constant conflict of showing it as I see, being able to film how I feel and finally post it and openly share pieces of my reality.
    Just a huge and sincere thank you for this episode.

    I've scaled back my UA-cam videos and stripped it right back, it's much easier for me and seems to be connecting more with my viewers, especially older viewers.

    This is the first episode of the podcast that I watched, and the college part intriged me. As a french student, I grew up kind of fantasing the US highschools, colleges/universities through movies. I even wished I could spend a year or so as an exchange student, but never could. Now a few years later I wonder if I really missed something, as i realte so much with Max's point of view about relashionships and college clichés. This is the kind of conversation that I would love to have!

    It's not the creators fault. It's the audience. Most people love crap, and crap is what they get.If our society valued culture, knowledge, and self-improvement more, these UA-camrs wouldn't make as much money.

    • @zuchrinata
      @zuchrinata Рік тому +1

      I would argue that people don't necessarily "love" the "crap" content per se--the crap content just so happens to target and hinge on specific psychological process to draw people's attention in (like short-retention, shouty visuals, intense/overflowing projection of emotions, etc.) That's why people often admit that they don't feel good after hours of scrolling through contents that Tiktok pushes to their face. It just so happens that these contents are so good at exploiting what we psychologically get hooked into easily.

    • @zuchrinata
      @zuchrinata Рік тому

      Sadly, our psyche doesn't always lead us to indulge in things we actually love--just what gives us most dopamine shots.

    The small private college that I attended was absolutely nothing like what Max described, but the way he described it resonated with me so much because what he described was exactly what I feared the most before I went to college...with the partying, superficiality, etc. I'm so happy Max shared this perspective for any people who are about to start college or considering whether it's worth going to college. It means different things to different people and it's certainly not for everyone...even if your mom is a college professor in Max's case.

    Very perceptive interview on both sides. Impressive young man,well both of you. I'd love to make a few points. One impressive that this young man in the intro says that religion is about providing a structure in your life and guidance to your behaviour. So many smart young men will state,"I'm an atheist" as if they really mean "I'm high IQ". They assume that any form of faith belief or religious practice is about believing in impossible things but it's far more complex than that. There has always been a drive to "dumb down" all media. Hollywood mogul Sam Goldwyn said " no one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the public" that's cynical but it's been the credo of the media ever since. I'm old enough to remember when the same alarm was directed at tv. I only got into this social media by accident. But I love my UA-cam. When UA-cam started mainstream TV would be telling us stories about say a girl in Sunderland UK ,a high unemployment area with a lot of social deprivation. She was doing UA-cam showing how to apply eye make up. She d been doing it two months,had two million followers and now had a fat bank balance. A teen boy
    has a UA-cam channel
    His content was that he sat in a bath full of baked beans all day every day and from this riveting activity he had several million followers and was a multi-milionaire. Apart from that I think and thought those stories were fake it put me off UA-cam,but I wasnt on social media anyway then. So when I did discover UA-cam(looking for advice on going to Paris) and you find content creators who make elegant,intelligent,informative,attractive work THAT MEANS SOMETHING and you think why hasnt this person got those 3 million followers. Now there is great wisdom and excellence on UA-cam. I don't do tik-tok but I think the baked beans in the bath type content has migrated there. In 10 years or so that will be "middle aged" (sorry) and something else will be for "da kids".

    Related to a lot of what was discussed here, especially about the struggle to find a group of people with similar values as you. Thank you for this; it's conversations like these that help me zoom out a little on life & college and bring more intention and perspective to the things I do.

    The unfortunate thing about the algorithm is how it trains UA-camrs, consciously and/or unconsciously, to make more sensationalist content. When you look at your stats and see the sensationalist videos typically do better, it ends up influencing what kind of videos you make. Mr. Beast has always been about trying to push viewer retention, but you see a lot of people becoming more sensationalist over time to try to compete in the sphere. I honestly think Andrew Tate only says such extreme things because he realized how much better it does. The algorithm is a big part as to why people become so extreme in their views; it simply gets more attention.

    The problem is that our communities are changing in ways that fail to provide proper guidance for the next generation. As was discussed in this video, religion is on the decline, and in its absence is this overwhelming spiritual void that we are taught to fill with equally empty materialism. We are not taught the values, virtues, skills and common sense to thrive in this new world. Who is teaching cooperation? Empathy? Emotional regulation? Delayed gratification? All the things religion had an answer for. Now, I'm not religious and I'm skeptical of social systems and institutions, which I believe we should be. But religion had its purpose; it fulfilled a need essential to mankind. We, as a people and as a species, have to find a meaningful replacement. Religion is not the answer. Our careers are not the answer. Materialism and mindless media consumption is not the answer. We need traditions and other methods of transmitting cultural information from one generation to the next. Those traditions have to be meaningful; they have to be open-minded and accepting of change to survive in an ever changing world. They need to allow the growth of the individual, as their own person, within their community. They have to provide guidance, but should never guilt or shame or judge those who seek a different route.

    DaVinci and Michael Angelo did had to make some kind of very strong and political ads in their own work. They did tombs, statues, paintings of all kinds of important stuff for the Sforzas, Medici, Pope Julius II, etc. those patrons funded artist and in return got awesome works of art but also for example portraits that "make them look good" (I don't know how to say that in english-engrandecer-) No body works for free.

    You can't "spark" some else... You can be there when someone has "sparked" them self's and then add to it. You can add to the Internal conversation of someone that then can over time ad up for them to "spark" them self.... If that makes any cents .... lol ... Grate show.

    I don't know, I am definitely not the person who watches Mr.Beast 😅 I saw only one his video, and dropped it at the middle, because for me it looked not only empty, but also dehumanizing and cruelly pointless. It didn't resonated to the extend that I blocked his channel in my proposed videos)
    As for the movement itself - it sounds great) I think it is important for me to see an inspiring and empathic content out there. Guess for me favourite channels like that are Green Renaissance and Cottage Fairy.

    It reminds me of what happened with food channels on TV. I remember coming home from school and watching Nigella Lawson and a bunch of others cooking food in their kitchen in the most genuine way. And i remember imagining one day cooking those things like that for my loved ones. Now the food channels are nothing but food game shows, contests and crap honestly.

    What a fantastic podcast I didn’t know I needed! 🔥
    I have been pushed to make my videos “Beastified” for retention and speed. However, as a college student documenting my journey to medical school, I find that pace often feels fake. Returning the art of UA-cam in this NewWave is something I wish to join 🫡
