- I am fond of history and particularly in the history of Rome and I share videos about it. Rome (2005) was one the best tv show and also some kind of documentary. I claim no rights of the videos I share

"Now that... is an exit."
James Purfoy stealing every scene he is in.
Agreed. All the scenes between Lucius, Titus, and him were absolute gold.
"This is NOT your master - I am your master."
Purfoy was so good in Rome that now I wish problems had not developed with V for Vendetta and I would have like to see how he would have been in the role of V, compared to Hugo Weaving. I understand some of non-speaking scenes in the movie are actually his. I guess when wearing a mask it doesn't matter which actor is behind it.
Servilia, out maneuvered, out matched, outwitted, and out bitched by Atia, again resorted to curses and involving the gods in her struggles and affairs.
That's what you did back then when you needed an edge, or all seemed lost.
Well, it kinda worked all things considered
@@albertoc8151 Aside from Atia's son founding the Roman Empire, becoming Emperor, and ruling for 41 years until he passed away at age 75.
@@kennethfharkin the curse was not on her son, it was on her. The show actually ends with a final close up on her face expression, which is the true epitome of desperation and hopelessness. So, the curse did actually work. Why on earth the desire to contradict an unknown person on youtube should lead you to argue over considerations that are self-evident to anyone who watched the show, I sure don’t know
@@albertoc8151nah,thay was Atia own fault. Even withouth being cursed she still made pretty bad decisions that would eventually end with her downfall
Remember guys Atia was the one who started every problem. She didn't do it to ensure her survival or anything. She just did it for the heck of it.
"here i am you crazy bitch" haha love how contemporary this sounds
Now THAT is an exit!
LINDSAY DUNCAN as SERVILLA in HBO's ROME truly deserved an EMMY nomination as BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES.
this is the scene that caused Atia to call her a "better woman" than Livia, imho. the one and only time the unsinkable Atia of the Julii was rendered speechless.
"Send her not peace, but problems - always!"
“Now that is an exit” lol love it
I wish there was more to this show
Love how they made her eyes literally black as if the furies were manifest in her.
If you watched the rest of the series, it's fair to say that the curse worked.
Obviously. Such a sacrifice for the evil demons and gods always works. Even today. But the soul of Servilia is in Hades
@@csabaszabo8624 you say hades but you don’t know what that means
@@P3891 my dear, you are talking with a professor of religious studies.I know well what is hades and Hades. But I don't give you credit here.
It did? She lived until the end and her son became Augustus.
Absolutely
Oddly enough, the real Servilia lived a peaceful life in a villa until she died of old age after Brutus was killed. I don't know if that's better or worse, based on your opinion of the character.
Interesting foreshadowing from Antony.
Lol. The show had many great foreshadowing moments. I just got done watching this episode, and his remark made me laugh.
damn even the slave killed herself
Her survival would've been inappropriate.
That was common then. Cleopatra’s slave killed herself when Cleopatra did, too.
That was Roman custom
I see her loyal slave did seppuku
Forgetting how appropriate or traditional it might have been...look at it from a more practical point of view - what was the alternative? Go be a slave for someone else who likely wouldn't treat her as nicely as Servillia did? Notice they all had a 'favourite' slave...remember the scene where Pullo kills...shit I want to say Cato? And he looks to his slave and says, "Oh, stop that hideous wailing until after I'm dead...and by the way, I freed you so don't worry". Shame Servillia didn't have the foresight to free hers.
"Now, that is an exit" ..indeed
Historical fact: Servilia lived way longer than Atia. Octavian was surrounded by powerful woman: first his mother and then his wife. In the deep patriarchy it was the only way woman could rule the Empire, but they sometimes did. But in this TV series this scene (as entire fictional rivalry between woman) serves classical tragedy, even ancient Greek would love it. Very well done.
Best scene in the series 🥇
What I loved most about the show was its intense and sincere attempt to evoke a pre-Christian world. In that world, power, manliness, authority: all are worshiped. Slavery is a norm. The abuse of the weak by the powerful is a norm. Recognize any of these trends in our world?
All of those things carried over into Christianity.
Those were pretty much the norms during any era of Christianity. The only bonus that was added was hatred of logic and reason.
Nothing good begins with "Gods below..."
Always asking the Gods to do her dirty work makes her seem so pathetic. Atia at least got her hands dirty in their rivalry.
Ewwwwwwww. She was raped in the streets, atia was responsible for spreading the news of Caesar’s infidelity and forced them to break ties, her son died. The gods are all she had left 😞
I don't think so. You have to consider that back then, people saw the Gods as very, very real entities, and asking for their aid was not done lightly. If you cursed someone, you really meant it. Atia had basically won by this point, so Servilia had nothing to throw at her. But then she shows up at her house, and you see just how much she HATES Atia. She hates her so much that she's willing to not only kill herself, but condemn her soul to Tartarus just to bring Atia pain - it's an all-engulfing hatred. And people truly believe that curse will come to be. The proof is how much of an effect this had on Atia afterwards - it's the only thing Servilia ever did to her that left an impact.
Lol well... That was the first time I've ever seen Atia stunned into silence.
most deserved curse of all time
Servilia and Octavia are two of my favorites!! This was a Good show! Despite not being very Historically Accurate! 🛡️🗡️
I agree. Octavia gets no love, but the actor pulled her off really well for a figure we don't know much about.
James Purefoy did an amazing job with his role. He steals every scene he is in. When I hear the name Mark Antony, I think of his portrayal.
A side note, I love what Antony is wearing here
Servillia was/is one of my favorite characters. Say what you want about her but she always upheld the standard of Roman honor and class to the core.
Lol, wasn't she a Lesbian ?
Pretty sure that that wasn't a virtue in the eyes of the Roman society.
She was a bitter ex that got her son killed from her inability to move on. In the show obviously.
How does one go on for days repeating the same words over and over again? She didn’t take the time to eat or drink or go to the bathroom? How is that possible?
Vergence be upon them that torture the Innocence.
GOAT
A curse upon those that have done me wrong, because they just choose to.
Servilia was such an annoying villain.
I'd honestly say Atia was the real villain between the two of them.
Yea nobody seems to remember that Atia flogged Servillia to a point that the torturer had an existencial crisis and freed her against Atias orders. Oh did I mention she also had her raped…… forgot that detail. So make what you will with that.
@@peterpan41 NGL, I'm one of those who doesn't remember that...but I don't remember very very much of that side of Rome. I should probably give the show another watch.
@@Tiabliaj1989 yeah, I remember. If you were the fence on who to root for in this matriarchal tug o war for power, decision gets made when Atia goes full Caligula on Servillia
@@peterpan41 I mean, for me all it really took was "Aw look at the old couple bumping uglies...wait whats that bitch want...oh nooooo". Caesar and Sevillia weren't hurting anyone, Atia just wanted some of that Julian D(ynasty).

The 2 original Karens...
What does Karen even mean anymore. These two were going through one of the most insane and consequential periods of political upheaval in human history. Their family members were pivotal to events and were in constant danger if not dying by war or assassination.
@@teddyjackson1902 It's a joke...
I curse you, who have done me an my children so wrongly. Execrate this upon you and yours.
Double homicide 😂
Just straight up unsanitary
So, not a fan, I take it.
The shit with Atia and Servilia is by far the worst part of the show. It's just pure HBO cheap morbid stuff to bait the audience. Not to mention pure fiction. Atia died sortly after Ceasar and Servilia outlived both of them by 2 decades, and wasnt never harassed just because she was family of Caesar's enemies, also never stopped being his lover.
the woman characters served well to include all those sex scenes... incest, lesbian, ...
Who. Gives a fuck. Its a good plot and we’re lucky all of the arcs concluded before the show got prematurely cancelled. Atia isn’t even portrayed according to her IRL religious self, taking more inspiration from women later on in the empire, but of course she was written in a way that would be entertaining.
The biggest concern is the wasted potential of some of the characters. I feel like they wasted Cicero and also the chance to add characters like Labienus or expand on Pompeys sons but IDT they had much time.
I mean, it is meant to be a drama, not a documentary.
@@sasquatch7234 U can make a drama and also being historically accurate, and not having to recur to cheap sex intrigue to make it more "dramatic" for low quality audience
