They did think of making it a Privateer remake/sequel but they soon remembered they would have to deal with EA to use the license and they already refused their pitch for a Star Wars Privateer-like game. They even did a fake trailer as an April's Fool gag when the game was yet to be announced just by swapping a few assets (it's on the Rebel Galaxy youtube channel).

I totally agree. My biggest disappointment is that there are large ships in this game, but they aren't the ones from the first game. I'd like to fight a Hammerhead or a Barracuda.
I've had fun playing this game but I wish there was a better selection of ships. The other thing missing are the sweet components you were able to loot from cargo containers and the ordinance drops you could pick up in big battles.
I thought the auto-follow mode would make the game too easy but that feature only works at the beginning of the game. It points you straight at the enemy, but mid-end game weapons have longer range and require you to lead your target quite a bit. So, while it might work when you have nothing but a short range combat laser, you'll soon stop using it as you advance to auto-cannons and ION launchers.

A goddamn shopping cart? Oh you bet your ass they dont have that. Not to mention the lack of regional pricing so people in countries other than the US are paying WAY more than they need to be. Sure, Steam had these kinds of issues in the past, but keep in mind Valve was one of the first people to pull this off successfully and they have had the time to build and iterate. All of the features in Steam are standards now and everyone that even wants to compete needs to have these as a baseline. It's fairly easy to get into with KB+M, gamepad is a hit and miss for some (I only use it in the buggy driving around on planets), but with a throttle and joystick (HOTAS) you won't want to put it down again. Maybe you had the wrong expectations? If you're looking for a more arcade approach, then I can understand why you would pass. Games like NMS and Rebel Galaxy are more suited to that. However....! If you felt alone, then I can assure you it's not an lonely game. Last I've heard the total active player count on PC alone were around 12k. There are also over 1500 in-game player factions. Oh no, not the Epic Store. Not the completely free alternative to Steam that challenges their monopoly and their unnaturally steep revenue “share”. Not the epic game store that, in some cases, without Epic funding the game wouldn’t even exist in the first place. But too bad because I don’t want to install a new launcher herp derp. Man the comments ware whiny on this one. In my eyes, it doesn't matter if the game is epic exclusive. It's about the game, not the publisher. "But look at all the shady shit Epic has done" Yes, I know, Epic doesn't have a clean sheet. But how about Steam? doesn't have one aswell. BattleNet/Blizzard? surely not. And you can probably find dirt on any game retailer out there if you look close enough. I don't like Epics action and where they are going, but that shouldn't hinder anyone for playing a game just because it is exclusively tied to this specific plattform if they also use Steam or BattleNet or whatever.
This game screams low budget, even lower effort. I was waiting for the pro's, but at the end it was clear that non-sense like pool table, slot machines, cut scenes and auto-aiming where actually those "pro's". I played it for like 2 hours, and it's as plain as a game can be. Looks good on screens but it so shallow and low-effort. I suspect it is not a review but a payed promo.

The steam monopoly? Not your problem, ammirite? When game companies are charged 20-25% for their product, no wonder unfinished games are released at $60 with mostly pointless DLC to make up for it. What happened to the old days when we purchased mostly complete games wth part 2's & 3's to milk a franchise properly? Must be Epic's fault. Or yours, Idk.
@@Darkchylde50 No, my problem with Epic is that, despite launching over a decade after Steam, they've failed to implement basic, simplistic, features into their store, like reviews, or a shopping cart, or offline mode that works, etc... If you remember, everyone hated Steam back when it first came out to. Why? Not so much due to it's controlling nature of the PC marketplace, as it was only Valve made games back then, but due to how clunky and inconvenient it was to use, lacking support for things people had readily available to them without Steam, such as mods. Yet, the continuous attempt to force my hand, and make me use the Epic Games Store, by paying for exclusively deals for certain games, some of which, like Metro Exodus, were advertised on Steam literally hours before the deal was announced, and weeks before launch, all clearly demonstrates that the EGS's business practices, despite what they claim, are not an attempt to fix Valve's monopoly, and is not pro-consumer or pro-developer, as seen with DARQ, a game Epic offered an exclusivity deal to, which was promptly refused by the devs. The devs later offered to put DARQ on the EGS, without exclusivity, so as to give the customer their choice of platform, as well as donating all of their revenue (the 88% cut off of the EGS) to a charity of their fanbase's choosing. Epic failed to respond to their offer. If Epic were actually pro-consumer and pro-developer, people wouldn't be divided on its business practices, and customers would flock to them. CD Projekt Red is a prime example, as Cyberpunk 2077 is being released on Steam *and* GOG (CDPR's own store front), but because of CDPR's consumer friendly nature, 1/3 of all pre-orders were on GOG, which CDPR earns 100% of the revenue from

It's only on Epic... thanks but I'll pass till Steam release.
Joystick capable? This reminds me A LOT of Privateer. "My beautiful Steltek gun!!!"
I finally started this game. I loved Rebel Galaxy. good video
Looks mighty pretty. I'll keep an eye out for it on Steam and GOG :D
Very reminiscent of Freelancer. Might give it a shot.
Keep in mind that the game doesn't control like Freelancer but like the original Wing Commander: Privateer, if you prefer the Freelancer controls you might hate the controls in this one (personally I hate the Freelancer controls so they are fine by me).
@@det.bullock4461 I think he means functionally and likeness, not exactly the same playwise, honestly this is probably the most accurate in likeness to freelancer if you played the single player, I giggled a lot because of the similaries, the nostalgia was real.. feels like someone made a sequel at least spiritually to freelancer
freelancer wanted to make a game not tied down to having a hotas and an "accessible space sim", good idea in theory but not in practice, where this took the best of both freelancer and wingcommander control wise
not to mention freelancer wasnt finished, mircosoft pulled it from chris roberts because he was taking too long,
imagine that....
BF5 hit me in the feels too but not in the way you're thinking..
I really wish they kept to the giant battleships that you could pilot in the first one but this game is still a lot of fun.
I totally agree. My biggest disappointment is that there are large ships in this game, but they aren't the ones from the first game. I'd like to fight a Hammerhead or a Barracuda.
Man running those bigger ships was so much fun especially breaking through a blockade around a space station bringing supplies!
S T E A M ...
I've had fun playing this game but I wish there was a better selection of ships. The other thing missing are the sweet components you were able to loot from cargo containers and the ordinance drops you could pick up in big battles.
This game is excellent. Highly recommended
Game looks interesting. Maybe I'll check it out.
LVLcap- It's on the epic game store.
Me- ight, imma head out
Can't recommend this game enough.
That game, for me, is the real galaxy on fire 3
They should bring back crimson skies.now that was a game with charakter.
Why y’all hate epic games so much its just a place to download games this is like blood vs crip scenario its the same shit wtf just different places

@@Darkchylde50 Sure Steam has a large market share but it's not a monopoly lmao. GoG? Origin? Uplay? I do not have a problem with using multiple launcher. What I DO take issue with is Epic's blantently anti-consumer practices that they employ to get people to use their launcher instead of improving it. User Reviews? Nah. A decent social feature? Nope. It's not competition if you snatch games away to make up for a piss poor excuse of a launcher.
I got Rebel Galaxy for free on psn and it was so much fun. It was what made me download Eve Online and Elite Dangerous. I only regret downloading Elite Dangerous xD
Why regret E:D?
@@J0intV3nture on pc it took me like 2 weeks to fly even reasonably well. Also it was very lonely so it ultimately was a bit of a waste of time since I no longer play.
@@TheBeastlyHispanic96 E:D is a space flight simulation based on Newtonian physics in a 1:1 scale Milky Way. It's literally the biggest sandbox you can imagine. The learning curve in E:D is very steep, yes, but is so rewarding and a total cake walk once the muscle memory kicks in. Trust me.
With some counting multiple hundreds, even thousands (Russian faction), in member count.
It is honestly a very very vast game. And you need the patience for it. But it's the only real space sim that currently exists. And it's a great one too.
@@J0intV3nture I get you. Honestly it was lonely because I have trouble with making friends so I like when games kind of force you to interact with random players in the same way you would with a self made group. I certainly appreciated the realism and the game itself but there's definitely a limit to how much gaming I can do in college so I need to choose what fits me best. Fly safe partner o7
Vaguely reminds me of Elite: Dangerous
Pretty much a copy paste of galaxy on fire 2
store.steampowered.com/app/212010/Galaxy_on_Fire_2_Full_HD/?l=french
this game is WAAAAAAY more a spiritual successor to Freelancer, a massive cult classic. down to the robotic dialogue in conversations at bars, joining factions, being a privateer ect. infact I think there is in game references to freelancer but I am not sure, been a min since I played
its an older game so people in this day of age don't remember it or know of it, but freelancer was the last game chris roberts made, and procrastinated just like star citizen.
trust me, you will giggle if you pick up freelancer in a torrent(being that its really the only way to get ahold of it anymore) of how similar it is.
See you later space cowboy

Looks cool! I'ma gonna wait for the steam release however. I'd just rather keep my credit card info away from random hackers.

I still have the first one downloaded on my ps4 😊
Got the 1st one 4 Free on epic and didn't really like it. The atmosphere was great, but the combat wasnt to my liking, Assassin's Creed Boat Combat was great fun because It worked and was responsive, but in this game I had no Idea where the hell I was shooting due to enemy ships going up and down while you only had a horizontal tagerter and movement.
I for one am not paranoid of one service/developer or another. When this goes on sale down the line I plan to play it. In the mean time, I appreciate the video for what it is (not an objective review but a glimpse of the gameplay) and I certainly don't begrudge someone else the opportunity to earn a living showing it.
I want this game so bad... Elite Dangerous is my game too but iIwish it was a blend of RGO
Would love if this came to console ❤️❤️❤️
why does epic get hate? it’s about time steam gets some competition, they’ve controlled the market for too long and gotten to comfortable while doing it
you need to read into epic business practices its not the fact they exist people are pissed at its how they handle said business
And it is a chinese owned business so that in itself is shady

insta buying that shit and next thing to do is sitting and playing Firefly soundtrack while travelling through the endless space xD
I can understand preferring Steam over Epic due to a SLIGHTLY better UI and already having friends on Steam, but the amount of hate Epic gets is just childish. Gamers love to think with their emotion and pick “teams.” It would be nice to see some more rational thinking.
Daily reminder to upload 1440p content. Why wouldn't you?
I don't think the game is worth giving a 1440 or better resolution
Plus it's probably also because of the compression the videos go through when uploading to YT. Happens to my buddies all the time when he tries to mess around on editing his siege vids
@@drjekyll5922 The compression is really bad at 1080p, that's exactly the reason to upload them at 1440p, where the compression is less extreme.
Freelancer was more fun. Or maybe I was just younger ...
I have fond memories of that game....very fond memories. It was pretty damn special for what it did (surprisingly smooth flight and super accessible gameplay with mouse and keyboard...) and the graphics were definitely ahead of their time. Dual Tizonas + 4 Nomad Blasters meta for PvP and Defenders with Sunslayers or Starfliers with Rippers taking out unsuspecting VHFs, never got old
I think we feel that way because of nostalgia lol, plus the scope of freelancer was larger and had its own character with the massive nebula everywhere, the star trekish aliens and homeworld atmosphere and mysterious stuff around every corner, trent was just caught in the middle of it haha
where this is an entirely different universe with its own art style so we harkon back to freelancer
would be different I think if we hadnt played it
but man I have very fond memories of freelancer as well
I loved systems like alaska, and the tau systems, the cool background skyboxes with the music
just bias lol

Man the comments ware whiny on this one. In my eyes, it doesn't matter if the game is epic exclusive. It's about the game, not the publisher.
"But look at all the shady shit Epic has done" Yes, I know, Epic doesn't have a clean sheet. But how about Steam? doesn't have one aswell. BattleNet/Blizzard? surely not. And you can probably find dirt on any game retailer out there if you look close enough. I don't like Epics action and where they are going, but that shouldn't hinder anyone for playing a game just because it is exclusively tied to this specific plattform if they also use Steam or BattleNet or whatever.
is this star citizen?
show us all your ships
is this game out for xbox or ps4?
They are currently working on a PS4 and a Switch version. No release date has been given, though.
It will probably come to Xbox as well. It would be really dumb for them to not release on Xbox as well. Easy cash

It's Elite Dangerous for children
I really wish you wouldn't help support a company that's actively trying to fuck over the platform you and I play on.
Little cap is game for Xbox or now or do I need a PC to play
Tyler Gores English dumbass
This game screams low budget, even lower effort. I was waiting for the pro's, but at the end it was clear that non-sense like pool table, slot machines, cut scenes and auto-aiming where actually those "pro's". I played it for like 2 hours, and it's as plain as a game can be. Looks good on screens but it so shallow and low-effort. I suspect it is not a review but a payed promo.

Warships videos... 😢
Why not just download Steam and Epic games???
Lol epic no thanks.
Nothing but whiny babies in the comments like always. Sucks.
DO NOT buy this game if you plan on using keyboard / mouse. Some may laugh at that but many people played the old freelancer games / freespace / etc with keyboard and mouse and enjoyed it. This game's controls are fucking terrible though. Literally unplayable w/o a gamepad. The devs are incompetent or just don't care. The game itself is also 5/10. Boring gameplay and okay story. The main character is cool. Not many ships or loadouts to choose from. Overall a very meh game.
This game hit you in the wallet.
Its the same price as all major games at launch since 2010.

Epic Games has shown the Console community, that ("Many (Not All) But Many") PC gamers can be worst than console fanboys... Many follow, repeating the same garbage others say, not understanding, not knowing, that Steam has also had the same problems, also did and will continue to do what Epic gets so hardcore critized by...
Grow up or keep your whinning to yourselves for everyone's sake....
Ohh! Dear what have you done. Epic FAIL!
Don't really care too much about the Epic stuff...yes, I'm not a fan of Epic's business practices, but that's not the point. The point is...this game look very "meh" to me. It's a space shoot-and-fly game, but still felt boring to me. it's flashy with lots of laser going off, but that's not much of a plus for me.
Business practices? Like pulling games from steam so the developers can get 88% commission instead of getting 70% of their profits because Valve is too greedy? Yeah, Valve is the hero we need. Gauge game developers! They need to charge us $60 for unfinished games & charge us for pointless DLCs. Down with EPIC!
Darkchylde50 Another reason to hate Epic: People who don’t have access to popular payment methods in places outside NA and EU, use methods that would charge an extra amount to them to purchase games. Steam EATS that cost for the customer. Epic doesn’t.
