Sadly ,i was on duty that day and we were sent to Bobs house as there were concerns for his welfare, as i went to the front door my colleague heard the car running in th garage , we managed to open the locked door and found Bob. We tried to resuscitate him but sadly it was to late. Such a sad end for a very funny man.

I think thats what he regretted.Being on On the buses.Noone advised classically trained actors that being type cast could wreck your career. On The Buses became the outdated comedy show that only Bob Grant the bus conductor was well known for so getting parts in the tv productions that he wanted to be in wasnt going to happen.

In the early nineties, I worked as a cinema in Leicester and an older college and myself were looking out of the big glass doors and this guy said look it's Bob Grant - he was walking past our cinema and we watched him walk slowly, looking quite sad. I remembered him a little from on the buses. My college was rather upset seeing him like that and had so much respect for him. I've never forgotten that.

I’m at the age where I watched the original On The Buses, thought it was funny but I now watch the re-runs and realise how brilliantly funny it is. This was one of those shows that really made you laugh not like the so called comedy of today. A lot of it wouldn’t get passed the PC brigade but that’s what made it so funny.

As it states in the video and in videos I have done about Bob he remained bust up until the mid 1980s - over a decade after On the Buses ended. Bob loved stagework above all else and it is only when that dried up that it hit him hard.

Those of uas who are not entertainers can find it difficult to understand how an actor, writer, producer, (and more), of Bob Grant's stature could ultimately succumb to such a tragic end due to depression, but behind their public persona they are human beings like the rest of us, and as such they are just as vulnerably to life's struggles as is anyone else. May God rest his soul!.

Such a well known face on british tv. You cant mistake that voice and face for anyone elses really.
Shameful to say i didnt really know much about the man himself. I think sometimes we are just so used to seeing certain people, we just know them via their iconic characters.
I remember we were called in by a friends parents to see on the busses as we loved it so much. Still find it magical now. To me he will always be one of 'the lads' from the bus company.
Had no idea he wrote some of them himself. What a talent.
Also odd to think something i know and love so well actually finished the year i was born.
We do have great comedy / sitcoms now but they arent a patch on the old ones.
Weve lost so may grats and bob is one of them. Gone though, but never forgotten.

Being in a long, running, well liked show can be a curse as well as a blessing
