I love this 😍 Came to your channel from Whitney’s shoutout on her video and blasted through your whole channel while reporting my herbs. I’ve decided this summer I should commit to one honker of a book and try and actually get through it, but haven’t really committed to one yet. I think you’re motivating me to get moving on that. Been thinking about trying to read Ulysses (tried it years ago and got like. 25 pages in) and maybe I will?? Or if not that one then one of the others I’ve been sitting on. Wrote like half of these down as well 💪
I read After Sappho a couple years ago and it’s one of my all-time favourites! I think Call Me By Your Name has the vibes you’re looking for, it’s *such* a summer read for me. I would also say The Talented Mr Ripley might fit the summery/classic literary vibes you’re looking for ☺️
i've just finished watching your videos in order and just wanted you to know that i think you're wonderful and i would love longer videos! i'll go back and comment on some of the other ones, but you got a new big fan! from the brief bit i've seen of you i'm astonished that you haven't read any sappho, get on that immediately! anne carson's translations and notes are so so good also call me by your name is definitely a romance, that is the focus of the plot, but there is a lot going on internally about intimacy, being so close with someone. i thought the writing was beautiful, and had a great discussion with a friend who got completely turned off by some of the choices made later in the book, would be great to hear your reaction to it
Ahh thanks so much for leaving such a lovely comment- it is indeed so crazy that I haven’t read Sappho yet😭 but so excited to and Carson’s notes feel like a goldmine waiting to be, well, mined lol. Curious to see what I think of CMBYN!! I started it this morning! let’s see!!
@@ofbooksandthings good luck! i look forward to hearing your thoughts. it was such good timing watching your videos because i just started reading autobiography of red yesterday morning! (loving it of course)
Just found your channel and loved this video. These are some seriously great picks. :) super interested in hearing your thoughts on east of eden!! Never heard of A.C. Grayling so thank you for putting it on my radar.
I also have vibe tbr’s ! Love your reading list here and vibe, and subscribed right away after being directed from whitney!! On another note, have you heard of the book 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die ? I am going through it myself and a lot of the books I think you’d be interested in as they are similar to this tbr. It goes from the first written books to when it was published. I would be interested how many you have already read! I think I’m around 30 ish books read 😂
Im currently reading Antiquity by Hanna Johansson. I think youd be interested. I also finished East of Eden and it was both incredible and obviously problematic in places but I feel like for its time it was surprisinging. I loved The Pearl. I have another of his short stories The Red Pony and The Grapes of Wrath which I want to also read. If you're interested in The Grapes of Wrath there's another book that was supposed to be published at the same time but due to similar topic the publisher said no- Whose Names are Unknown by Sanora Babb. It was so sad but worth a read I think 🤓
"i hope it's not a romance" god what it must be like to have a functioning brain. i live vicariously
nauuur i still like romance (i think) but i just haven’t been enjoying it lately (😭😭😭)
