This is the only song that can even come close to expressing how I felt towards a beautiful woman I once was with. She was heroin! I lived this song for a few short months. Thanks Pete for writing it down.
@@communicationbreakdown256 Simon Phillips was a studio drummer. He shows on this song that he can play pop without over playing. Not easy for a guy who literally play any style.
Funny how you can love a person having never met them. First grew to love him and them in 64 or 65. His work has made my life immensely richer. Thanks!
Nobody ever mentions Tony Butler on this set of videos. He was the bass player for Big Country, Simon Townshend's early band, and a bunch of Pete's albums. He composed the classic bass line for the Pretenders' "My City Was Gone". He is one of the best and most tasteful bassists ever.
This tune always took my head off. "Common sense would tell me not to try and continue, but I'm after a piece of that diamond in you." The master of the human condition.
Poetic synergy at its best: painting a feeling/reality/experience with words and music... Pete Townshend should have been made poet laureate. Genius daoist illustration- an angelic soul gifted with pure art.
I love the man, and I love this song, one of my very favourites by him. Amongst all my most prized possessions are the letter and autographed picture (now framed upon my wall) that Pete sent me in 1990. God bless him and Rachel.
I turned 10 in 1980. My college aged brother and Mom got me my first high end stereo for my birthday. This album was on the turntable when they led me into my room. "Happy birthday" indeed.
I got a new iphone and when I start listening to my music songs come up that I haven't heard in a long time. I've had this album forever and love the songs. There's a lot to be said about iphones algorithms.
I wrote to him back in the early 80s.....I didnt have his address but I knew he had a recording studio in a little town called Twickenham England. I figured small town and hes well known so I just addressed it "Pete Townshend Twickenham England". A year went by......I forgot all about writing to him and I get a letter from him.....he apologized for taking so long to write back to me and sent an autographed picture. I still have it in his "Scoops" solo album.
Yeah this was the album that pete came out of the closet so to speak, didn't care still love him for All he did, does the two ladies on the cover if you didn't know is his daughters, if you can pull up blue red and grey off of who by numbers, one of my favorite songs
The two women on the cover are not his daughters. His daughters were little girls in 1980. Who the hell would pose for an album cover using his daughters as two groupies sitting at a bar tempting him sexually? You might be the biggest fucking idiot on Earth.
I love this song so much. In fact all of the songs on Empty Glass are masterpieces
Also I love Pete's voice a lot.
Empty Glass is such a good album
In Pete's autobiography he calls this one of the best songs he's ever written.
It is.
It must strike the right chords
So were "And I Moved," "I Am An Animal," and "Rough Boys."
This is the only song that can even come close to expressing how I felt towards a beautiful woman I once was with. She was heroin! I lived this song for a few short months. Thanks Pete for writing it down.
Totally agree
Love this album. One of my favorites.
This song still hits me, even after 25 years. True genuis.
Every time.
The great Simon Philips on drums
don't know who he is but was noticing he's cute

@@braddater5834 He was for better or worse, in Toto.

His best work in my opinion
Lyrical Gold! Damn, the man can write great songs.

The Great "Rabbit Bundick" on keyboards!
This tune always took my head off. "Common sense would tell me not to try and continue, but I'm after a piece of that diamond in you." The master of the human condition.
For 43 years I thought the lyrics were: "Common sense is telling me you're trying to continue. But after a piece, I'm tired of loving you."
😂

Thanks for posting this. I remember seeing this on Video Concert Hall before MTV launched. I wish I had my old VHS recording to post
Another pete thompson masterpiece!
Best tune on "Empty Glass"
Peter Townshend is a musician and lyricist without peer , a giant in our time.
I love this song, I've played it hundreds of times and can't get bored with it.. If you're ever in a dark place this song will lift you.
I do that with REO SPEEDWAGONS, "Roll With the Changes" Also EDDIE MONEYs "Can't Keep a Good Man Down"
The Who and Pete have saved me countless times
One of the best songs ever. prove me wrong.
5 months later and no one can. see I told you. haha
Lyrically superb just a little is enough love you Pete x
I want it played at my funeral
What a great idea.
Empty glass great album!✨
This is my wife's and I song. Sometimes we will ask each other "Do you love me?" We will answer "Yes, just a little, and that's enough."
The man is a genius! Long live rock ,long live Pete!

I believe this is one of his best tune on this album.
My favorite from a great album!
Lyrically amazing.

Lucky enough to have been at Saturday concert at Brixton
Amazing , tune, arrangement and band .
incredible song....
another musical genius at the least!
Simon looks like a teenager....
He’s a genius.
Expansive and melodic. Wise and wistful.
Pete says this is his favorite song.
With good reason.
The 80s, when rockers wore suits
Reminds me of the love of my life.
Towsend is atreasure!
41 Years old and still nothing to beat this song!!!!
Inspired by Adi.K.Irani (quote) who told Pete that more times than not a little (love) is enough to heal stormy times.
Your love is like heroin
Were I to meet Mr. Pete Townshend for even a moment, I would die happy.

Happiest beat ever
Yikes. Far from it for me to say, as I am a (big) fan of The Who and also PT, but I suspect this performance is mimed? Heretic, Heretic !
I'm a Who fan but this is absolute carp. Tinny 80s music with no balls. Could be Depeche Mode or some other drivel. Get some spine for Christ's sake!
Mimmed, fake rubbish
