I like Luka, for all the reasons anyone else would. However, here's some worrisome things to consider:
Luka has a lot of miles in him already because he's been a pro since he was 13, playing against and with older players, who were often bigger, faster, and stronger, which took a bigger toll on his body. He's only 25, but he looks like an older player already. He's played less than 70 games 4X out of his 6 seasons, he's already slow and unathetic and struggles with weight and conditioning, plays absolutely horrible defense, dominants the ball with a high usage rate, which wears him down and like Harden, that style of play may not be conducive to winning a championship. Scoring champs normally doesn't win championships, Jordan last did in 93'
Lastly, the West is stacked, and the top teams in the East are good as well. I'm not saying Luka won't ever get another shot at a chip, but he may have to leave Dallas and go the superteam route because Kyrie is already 33 and Dallas may not be ever able to put a good enough team around him to win a chip.

THey need someone other than Luka and Kyrie to be an offensive threat. Their entire team vanished in the finals. The more it's on Luka to do everything, the more he's going to complain and whine to refs about calls. The more he does that, the more he takes himself and his team out of the game. Boston didn't care if Kyrie and Luka scored 60, the rest of the mavs was scoring like 20.
They need to play better defense
Mavs role players are trash.. even the big men like Lively are useless vs elite teams! He was out there just pushing people around 😂. Couldn’t even catch the ball most the time . He had a nice pass to JB 😂 for a fast break!
Give the other players a break man. Nobody aside from Kyrie and Luka really had experience in the playoffs. On the other hand, the Celtics had been there so experience wise they really had an advantage and they were a better team. That was a great experience for the Mavs. People forget that they are a very young team aside from Kyrie.

Most of their players didn't have playoff experience and the still took 3 very good teams. Those so called elite teams aside from the Celtics lost to them.

That statement was made in the context of the playoffs leading up to the finals and why people chose Dallas over a clearly stacked Celtics team. It took me a second too. Kyrie was playing well up to the finals

@@justadude2800 Not excuses. Giving max effort on defense with knee and ankle injuries is just not possible. Luka managed to keep his offense up despite bruised ribs to go with that. Uncle Drew did not defend on a high level for long stretches and could not get buckets

The road back to the NBA finals will be very difficult for the Mavs. Their weaknesses and vulnerabilities have been exposed by the Celtics , and Western Conference teams will surely address these next season.

To a degree but those role players were thriving because they were getting open looks and dunks because of Luka. In the finals you saw they can't create for themselves when Luka isn't being doubled as much. Also most of them shot horribly when he did find them vs boston. You can overcome having a bad defender like Luka as the team construct did for the mavs up to the finals but Boston is an historic offense and exploited it in a way few teams can. It's not hard to find good defensive players to buy in and make open shots so don't get it twisted the team starts and ends with your generational player. Recovering from his injuries and working on his conditioning are the most important things for a mavs improvement next season not the role players even though they are important.

I don't know if it raises it, because I think he was already put on a high level before these playoffs. I do know it doesn't diminish anything. I mean, it is just year six for him. Tatum lost in the finals (year 5) before winning (year 7) and the loss didn't diminish his standing. It takes more than one player to get the job done. Kyrie was up and down and a decent compliment overall. But I think the Mavs need a guy who can create his own shot in the paint and also pop out and be a stretch 4 or 5 (much like Porzingis for Boston). I like Lively ... can he develop a 3-point jumper and an above average post game? Is there going to be one available in FA? Or will one fall to them in the draft? I honestly think, with so many teams looking for a specific type of player to fill out the roster, this could be the most interesting offseason in a while as I think six or seven teams could go from playoff team to title contender and another three or four from outside looking in to playoff challenger with the right piece added to the roster.
The Mavs didn't even have Gafford or Washington on their roster until the trade deadline and had to go on a 15-2 run to get the 5 seed.

mavs needs a very good shooter, Kevin Love type player and a good defender. Better conditioning for Luka and a bit of strategical polish and they are one of the best teams in the league.

Luka leads the entire NBA in PPG, RPG, APG, and SPG for the entire playoffs, takes a 5th seed with a starting lineup that had been together for like a month, gets them through the entire Western Conference playoffs beating the 1, 3, and 4 seeds in the stacked Western Conference, manages to get at least a game off a 80 win team in the Finals when his main supporting player goes absolutely missing every game in Boston, his role players couldn't hit a 3 or make much of any other contribution for every game except the one the Mavs won, and Luka tarnished his reputation???? Luka was an absolute monster all playoffs. Kyrie was shooting what like 20% FG% and 0% from 3 in Boston, but Luka was the problem?

"Lighting in a bottle" is code for "we were wrong this year about the Mavs, but dont worry, trust us, we'll be right next year." Interesting. I know we avoided Denver (though we beat them in March when both teams were at full strength and everyone was trying to win to position for home-court advantage), but we were still underdogs in the media and with vegas starting out in every other western series. And each time the Mavs proved the pundits wrong. So why Luka, Mavs, or Mavs fans should care about any predictions about the West next year from ESPN or people in these comments is beyond me. I don't generally go to people who were literally just proven wrong to ask for their thoughts. Have to say Celtics fans got a gripe though. They were disrespected a little leading up to the finals and should be considered favorites to repeat, especially if Porzingis is healthy.
If Luka had been healthy, and Kyrie had no psychological problems in the Garden, Dallas would have won. If Dallas strengthens a little, Kyrie goes to therapy and Luka rests more during the regular season, we will have a champion next year.

Dear NBA please fire all reporters who voted Jokic and SGA over Luka for MVP this season. As well as those who put Gobert over Jrue Holiday as DPOY.
