uSDX uSDR REQUESTED - “Will this rig work on 11m band?”

  • Both here and on social media I’ve had multiple questions asking “Will this work on 11m/CB band?”
The answer is apparenly, Yes. However...
I have only done this test with dummy loads on USB on 27.555
I have not altered any settings from my 40/80m band settings.
I have not looked for harmonics or checked with a spectrum analyser or even on a 6m band rig.
This was a basic test to answer a basic question.
For freebanders, you pay your money and make your choice.
I have no interest in using this rig live on air on 11m

Thanks Mark for the input I just ordered mine as I see you have the older one since both buttons are under the main dial. Regards and can't wait to get mine 73's

      Mine is version 2.7.1
I have no idea where that fits into the version you’re getting?
Mine has the factory 5V mod, sobis quite late.

In USB and LSB really correct in 11 m For good audio use PA bias MIN 10 yo correct the distorsión in modulation

Thank you (:I think you did a good job of explaining the facts! I guess it's normal for usdx not to perform properly at 11m. But the 45m band is almost identical to the 40m band - I think the difference here should be smaller? Here in Europe - especially in Italy - the 45m band is something like (unofficial) CB radio...

I used to use Echo Charlie in the 6MHz band, but not these days.

I think you'll find the local Osc needs adjusting, as you probably know if you calibrate it for the highest Band the lower bands fall into place.
Just calibrate the Local Osc and job will be a good one..
I got Mine working on 4 Meters 70Mhz with no problem..

So this will work on 11 meters if I make the local osc 27.200 or something?

Simply put, it's not restricted, per FCC rules. but it is acceptable for the dxs

My buddy pulled up beside me in his car and said, "Hey, turn on your radio!" He'd called from 2 blocks away during a driving rain and I hadn't responded, so he pulled up beside my car, flipped on his amp and said that, and I heard it, a bit distorted, in my radio. When radios are on top of one another strange things happen.
As far as uSDX's go, each band installed has a bandpass filter to keep everything else out. If you wanted one to work properly on 11 meters you'd need to build a bandpass filter for it, and substitute it for one of the others, or modify one of the ones already in the radio. It's just RF, not magic. But why would anyone with a ham license want to talk on the CB band to people who can't pass a ham test that kids have passed who aren't even old enough to read?

I have no interest in 11m myself.
Just looking after a few requests…
I think you’ll find there are LPFs in this not BPFs?
But you’re correct, there isn’t a filter specifically for 11m.

@@m0jcfhamradio75, yep, it does just use low pass filters. I had a brain fart about which radios used which. Been looking at a lot of schematics recently, and I've started building the (tr)uSDX rig, although I'll make my own RF bd for it with full band-pass filters, and include some different bands. One of them will indeed be the 11 meter band in case of emergencies. (I live about 5 miles from the scene of the Marshall Fire a couple of months ago.) With all of the info online these days, and $50 NanoVNA's it's now very easy to build up some real good filters for whatever band you like. Along with the versatility and functionality of the Si5351's there's really no longer an excuse for not building most of our own rigs these days, or at least heavily modifying the designs of others.

I just received this radio today, and see it does not come with a battery installed. I'm just getting back into HF, so what battery or power supply can i use on it. Tnx. 73s, N7BFT

Mine doesn’t have a battery either.
I use an external 13.8V PSU.
In fact, recently I’ve been using an old CB PSU 13.8V @ 3A.
      It’s more than enough.

Ok Mark have watched it but just wonderd if it had to be moded in any way from new?as 11m isn’t a recognized ham band and most other radios need sim sort of mod to use on 11m. Thanks and will keep checking how u get on with the radio

    • @m0jcfhamradio75
      @m0jcfhamradio75  2 роки тому +1

Christopher. I assumed you'd not looked at the video.
I won't be using this on 11m, hence the use of dummy loads for this test which was in response to people asking "Will it work on 11m?"
This will go straight onto 11m without mods (mine is version 2.7.1)
But it won't work properly there and I have no idea about harmonics etc.
This is not a commercial ham rig and should not be treated as such.
      It is an experimantal/development rig.
