Very useful video, thanks Jeremiah. For the ups and downs of the route, I plotted the journey on Komoot (trekker) and could see that SJDPP to Roncevalles and the O Cebreiro sections look very tough on "paper" at least.
Here's a tip. I am starting to familiarize myself with the route. So, I went to google maps and found the pilgrim office in St. Jean Pied de Port. I then went to street view and started walking my route. I made it to Orisson in just 20 minutes. I made a couple of wrong turns. When I went back and looked at where I went wrong I was able to see the arrows I had missed.

Unfortunately I have only been on Camino Frances. I did some research into the other routes because I would like to experience them. But it seems like none of them have the infrastructure for me to take 15-25 students with me. We'd really disrupt the Camino for others when we reserved every bed in a town. So I don't know when I'll get to do the other routes since almost all of my Caminos are groups.
That's a bit of "chicken and egg" thing. The reason it has the most infrastructure is because it was already receiving more pilgrims. The "market" drove private albergue owners and municipalities to build up to meet the demand of pilgrims.

So exciting! I’m so glad I’ve been helpful. For the trip back to Madrid you have a couple options. You can take a Renfe train from Santiago to Madrid. Takes about 7 hours. Very comfortable. Low stress. Take a budget airline like RyanAir or Iberia Express. These are a little more expensive and you have the stress of airports. If I have time I take the train. If not, I fly.
I love your videos. I try to watch at least one a day as part of my preparation for the Camino which I plan to do next year. I do have a question. I would like to do the "full Camino," starting in France. I believe the town is St. Jean Pied de Port. Correct? Given that is my starting point, do you think it best to fly into Madrid and take a train or some other city? Also, I would like my wife to meet me afterwards, so I am thinking that she can fly into Madrid five weeks after me. I believe this should give me enough time to complete the Camino with some extra time if for some reason I am a bit slow. Any comments or thoughts on my plan? Your advice is most welcome.
Thanks for all your encouragement. I’m glad you find these videos helpful and that they make you want to walk! You could fly into Bairitz in France. Then you are a short train away. You can fly to Paris and enjoy that city before taking a train. That’s nice to get an extra city. But during COVID, I would fly to Madrid, train to Pamplona, and bus/taxi to St Jean. That means you won’t have to navigate French COVID rules and Spanish ones. The French aren’t checking people coming via ground transportation. Technically they could but most are saying no controls are in place. In any case, there are multiple paths. I plan to make a video about the trip from Madrid but haven’t done one yet.

That's a great question. I assume you are asking because you saw my drone footage. But all of my drone footage is purchased. I know that I have seen persons flying drones of various sizes above Santiago in particular, but I don't know what permits, etc they need to do so.
Definitely no climbing equipment. You are on trails the entire time. Most of the time you could drive a car up the trail you are walking. But definitely will want the trekking poles so that you can cushion the impact on your knees on downhill (and makes the uphill easier too).
@@mauriceheneghan1554 I actually think water is the most serious risk on that section. I know people have sometimes been killed when trapped in bad weather. I wouldn't want to be up there with more than 6 inches of snow or something. But no matter when you go, its a lot of walking without many water sources. As I recall there is only that one fountain just after the border. Sometimes there is a fruit stand on the way up. I think they have drinks for purchase when you find them there.
Yes! There is a visitor center in the plaza of the cathedral. Surely they have passports. The municipal albergue in town probably has them too but I don’t know where that is. Regardless, ask at the visitor center and they will tell you where to get a credential

can i take a bus from Roncesvalles if am tired walking ? towards Pamplona and bus again to Burgos bus to Leon bus to Sarria and from there on i will walk the final 100 kilometers? can i asked them to stamp my passport in those cities and big towns that i will pass even if i take a bus? thanks

Hi in reality i think there are shells with arrows all over the route right? unless someone removed it

The Compostela is what you receive in Santiago when you complete the journey. The pilgrim passport is called the credencial.

The practical reason that the CF has become the most well known is because it has the better pilgrim infrastructure.
