The non flashing ditch lights are correct for this model. The strobe lights were later removed when the ditch lights were made to flash when the horn was blown.
@@elvasjunctionreviewsat the same time the strobe lights were removed, the hostler stand (window on the left rear) was removed as well. This stand was for reverse moves and limited to 10 mph
@@elvasjunctionreviews only the P40s and P32AC-DMs had this stand. P42s never did. It looks like the P32AC-DMs might still have them however. Also the P32s don’t have rear doors like the P40 and P42….. apologies for the info dump
Great review. My understanding is that the strobes above the windshield are suppose to be constantly flashing just like the old F40s did and the ditchlights are suppose to alternate flashing when the horn is blown. I'm wondering if that's something that can be changed in the CVs?
Looking at some of my older videos it appears Athearn got the ditch lights correct. They did not flash on the original p40s like they do on the P42s now.
Nice review of the P40. Note, we never kept spare knuckles on the engine like the freight railroads. If we needed a spare knuckle, we would grab it from the front coupler of the leading engine. Otherwise we'd have to call up the host railroad for a spare knuckle from one of their mobile carmen or grab one from a freight car located on the siding and inform the dispatcher so they can make a note on that car number.
