When George Benson basically states that Joe Pass was in a league all his own when he was interviewed by Rick Beato-that says it all. Joe Pass was a complete guitar wizard!
This IS music for the concert hall. We are fortunate to have had him and that this performance was preserved on video. I also like that he approaches his performance as a classical musician with humility and dignity, and absolute fidelity to his musical values.
I'm glad I kept the video and managed to digitise it @JoanthanRZeko! Joe is one of the nicest and the humblest guys, and this is him at the top of his game, no frills. This lesson is fabulous, even if you don't play guitar...ua-cam.com/video/J5wOdikpRu8/v-deo.html
Когда великие и такие разные Holdsworth, Hackett и Metheny называют своего любимого гитариста - Joe Pass, понимаешь, что они не оригинальничают, не капризничают и не жеманятся, а искренне говорят правду.
From where I sit it’s worth years-to-decades of solitary practice and listening to every great version of these tunes one can get their hands on to even scratch the surface of being able to play as beautifully as Joe Pass did.
For all his brilliance, he was so down to earth and genuinely funny! One of highlights of my life was seeing him perform live with Ella Fitzgerald at the Stockholm Jazz and Blues Festival a month before she passed away. The two of them playing together was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.
A bit of conjecture, but you can search and find some print ads from '91 of Joe for Epiphone - I would assume part of that endorsement deal might have included having to block out the name of any other makers for guitars he used publicly.
A complete mockery of Pop music, when they say the greatest guitar players are Hendrix and Jeff Beck etc they want to listen to Joe Pass and realise they are deluded
I'm not a fan of lists or rankings...no-one is better or worse than anyone else, they all play entirely differently and it's purely a question of who you like best. However, Joe Pass is without doubt one of the most accomplished guitarists ever and a benchmark for all musicians, in particular aspiring guitarists. That's why I took the trouble to digitise this footage from a 30 year-old video and post it on my channel...around 16k people agree with you Chris!
It was an Ibanez JP20, his signature model, but with the brand name taped off as by then he had signed a deal with Gibson/Epiphone. True about his talent...

Joe is one of the Big Four of jazz guitar, along with Django Reinhardt, Charlie Christian, and Wes Montgomery.
I can really appreciate Joe's skills as they are off the charts. Glad to see he defeated his early life's demons. RIP
Mr. Pass is fantastic!
My favorite, for sure 🙏🏻 sure thanks for sharing this video, mate!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Hey @salvincent! He is indeed! Glad you like the vid, glad I kept it all these years!
Mamma mia che genio. E' difficile il suo fraseggio, ma è bellissimo per le nostre orecchie .
A killer ATTYA right off the bat. What a master.
13.06 that beautiful harmonic. What a way to end.
He's a master of understatement @martshankleman! Such a refreshing contrast to all the modern over-busy players...
We are so lucky to have videos like this which enable us to enjoy and appreciate the skills and musicianship of one of THE great guitarists…..👍🍷
It's lucky that I happened to tape this 33 years ago and that I was able to digitise the VHS tape. Happy to share it with everyone...

My dear friend and mentor, Pepe Romero, played at Joe’s funeral.

Fantástico!!!
Total phenom. There may never be another.
Tóp e Gênial❤❤❤
18:52 I really like his banter, and then a beautiful rendition of Beautiful Love.

Amazing
Bravo Joe ❤👏👏👏
The GOAT
THE (!!) GOAT!
すごい…🎉
Glad you like it!
The Ibanez headstock brand name is taped off?🤨
Wonder why? 😮
Yes, he´s playing his own signature Ibanez JP20.......@@CharlesK441
Ok, still there are a lot of videos where he plays the Ibanez without the logo taped off......

That guitar is almost as big as he is. Not as big as his amazing talent
