Mosaert is Stromae’s own brand (it’s an anagram of his name) that he and his wife created together I believe!! I read in another comment somewhere that she was the one who came up with this look for him (no source though). Love love love him, not many people got to see his look, so I’m really glad you touched on it in your video here!!

I wouldn’t be surprised if she did!! He almost always credits her as being the true designer of the brand. I adore the brand almost as much as I do him, so I was SO glad to see he was attending the Met IN Mosaert! I also love that it too ties in to his performance costumes/outfits for this era as far as the general silhouette, frills, and details.

Its so crazy to me how almost everyone (Ms. Anna Wintour included) just completely ignores the theme. Especially in 2022, when we have so many historical reference right at at our fingertips, litterally. No excuse!!
Next year they should just forego the theme all together and emphasize that the met is a costume party... so wear a costume, make it high fashion, avant guarde. Theme is... Anything Goes!

I’m so glad you’re talking about Ms. Chasinghorse!!! I love her message and style, and I want her and her message to get more attention - she’s lovely and so poised for her young age, and I feel like she didn’t get the attention she deserved last year. Thank you for talking about her and giving the background of her look the time it warrants. Her dress is also from a sustainable brand and she sourced the eagle feathers from several Native American folks, along with the meaning you mentioned with the necklace

For Sophie Turner, I feel like there was a missed opportunity to turn the baby bump into a bustle on the front of the dress instead of the back! It could have been so cool! I hate that designers seem to think because a woman is pregnant that her dress needs to be super boring instead of seeing it as an opportunity to do something creative.

@@kirstenmcculloch3008 you could look up video essays or theses on the discourse of drag/queer language and race. Black queer men and trans women “created” the culture you see on rupaul’s or at pride festivals, but they got it from black women. But the winners-which would be the white patriarchy then further the general patriarchy to include black men(misogynoir)-get to tell history, so most ignore the contribution of black women. If you don’t believe the discourse on it, go on black twitter for a day and see how long it takes for some new idiom created by a black woman to become mainstream.

The wire closures on a corset is called a busk! Stiff metal bars are sewn between the fabric and lining, one side has “ nobs” the other has flat metal loops which lock over the nobs. There is probably grommeted lacing in the back to be cinched in forming a fitted waist. Love all the “ burlesque” references stretching to make some of the outfits “ sort of on theme!”😂

Too bad this dress didn't have the detail of one strap up; it might have been more convincing as being inspired by the painting.

Disappointed that no one went for steampunk aesthetic - deeply anchored in late 19th century and early 20th fashion. Elements of industrial development of the time would have blended seamlessly, and the theme calls for metallic motifs with incredible craft and detail… It was an opportunity to bring fantasy to life (and I learned from this series that costume parties were a thing) and I would have just loved to see it!

I don’t claim to be an expert on corsets, but having followed a couple historical costume UA-camrs, and having worn corsets myself, I think you’re slightly mistaken. The busk (the line of pins down the front) is not a closure. It’s designed to make putting the corset on by yourself easier, but there are still laces at the back that do the work of tightening it to fit the way it’s supposed to.

Thanks. Keep up the good work. I can imagine it is hard to do with the people/experts not putting in much effort.

I love your videos, even though I know nothing about the technicalities of fashion. Also, don't know how you're going take this but it just hit me that if Kurt Hummel was a real person and had a UA-cam, it would be very reminiscent to yours. Love ya 💕.

Hi Luke! Love your videos, specially the met gala fashion review ones are so much fun to watch! I was wondering if you can do OLD Met Gala (like really old, 90s, 2000s) fashion review? For example, I think the 2001 met gala theme was Jacky Kennedy (which seems like a really interesting theme!). I really wanna watch your takes on the best and worst dresses worn that year, who followed the theme the best on that year and your reviews on other old Met galas as well. What do you think???

I thought Simone said that her sleeves when she put her arms down were supposed to be the “bustle” moment tho! Haha

I don't understand--if you are already trying for a deconstructed look, why not go for a deconstructed bustle? Bustles have so many different construction designs and could be fantastic as their own focus. Imagine Area lining a cage bustle in crystals and laying it over a fitted skirt.

In every era, women were able to put their stays or corsets on by themselves, since pretty much all adult women wore them and it wasn't just a rich lady thing. Before the invention of front closure, the lacing in the back would be loosened, so the stays/corset could be pulled on over the head, and then the wearer could tighten it herself. The busk closure (metal hooks thing) definitely sped things along in terms of getting dressed, but it also gave additional shape and structure, since it was usually very rigid.

I’d love to see your reaction to Ms Mojo’s “Top 10 Memorable Celebrity Revenge Dresses.” There were a few in particular (including some of the “honorable mentions”) that I felt worthy of a very spicy roast.
