Citadel/GW paints are supposed to dry up, long before you finish the paint pot!

An alternative (if slightly more expensive option) is to use acrylic mediums rather than PVA. That way you can vary the amount of matt/gloss medium to create different types of earth (wet or dry). Also worth adding in a handfull of cheap flocking to give it some vegetable debris texture along with the sand, makes for a more realistic effect.

This is great, I've only recently (in the past few days) had the realisation that I can make mini things - I do a lot of world building but find it hard to visualise my stuff simply through drawing it - so I'm trying to go through all the basics to compile a list and stuff... I'm a broke uni student so anything DIY like this is brilliant (and I live close to an estuary and quite a few beaches within reasonable bus distance, so lots of sand!)
    Thank you very much

@@TheBattlinBarrowGaming That's brilliant! Do you have any advice for someone who's starting out?

Wow.. nice video... I was just thinking about this today. What paint did you use? It looks like burnt umber , but is it acrylic or oil? Any recommendations or any of the colour tubes will do?

It's been a money saver. I've also been experimenting with adding polyfilla(spackle) to the mix

Great vid! I usually substitute sand with toilet paper tho; it makes it very easy to turn it into green moss, or to sculpt tracks and footprints on ^^
