The settlers was probably my first ever experience at playing an RTS game, it’s good to see they are still around after all these years.

Hi Raptor! Thanks for showing us this Settlers game! I've been a fan of this franchise since mid 90's, Settlers II (even re-bought it a couple of months ago) This Settlers II is by far my favourite, I'll make a jump for joy just like the 'archeologist'
I would always recommend this game (or maybe the 10th anniversary).
I'm not fond of the way you gain territory in this new game.... I prefer the old way of building defense builds to gain territory. With coins you could upgrade your soldiers who were in there and then send them off to fight opponent's defensive builds.
I will take a look at this game, either through Ubisoft account or through Epic. I just like they made another Settlers game!!

I've been playing farthest frontier, hooked me right into the genre , but then i discovered Anno 1800 which seems like the flagship of the genre. lots to offer there aside from FF being a little more relaxed and keeps it village style which I like, but Settlers' graphics i love because it looks like League of Legends, I love their Cell Shaded graphics. makes things pop in a modern cartoon vibe that is getting cleaner and cleaner year by year. So Settlers may be the game for me.

It looks nice (as expected from a 2023 game), but already I can see it lacks the charm of The Settlers 2 Gold/Anniversary/History editions. That was when The Settlers franchise had absolutely nailed down the game mechanic and made it stand out from the crowd. The game you’re playing, if you blinked, could very easily be mistaken for Age of Empires 4.
Who remembers the cartoony-looking The Settlers 2 Gold Edition, where all you needed to expand territory was build a barracks? You couldn’t ‘train’ workers, instead you had to build the tool they would use (e.g. a rolling pin for a baker) and then a little person would walk out of the capital building with a big cartoon smile on his face and walk goofily along the path to the relevant building. You would need coins to train soldiers to become generals and feed your miners with fish and stuff to keep the mining efficient.
It was a lovely, simple game back then. So chilled. I just wish they’d chosen to go that route for this game (and add more content for a 2023 version) instead of the Age of Empires route, which they’ve clearly done. A pity.
initially they really did.. if you look at the 2019 footage. i think thats basically the reason this game still has the whole road system and hexagon building design as its plucked form the corps of that attempt after Volker Wertich had enough.
If you’re looking for more of the older The Setters games, look up Pioneers of Pagonia. It’s being developed by the original creators of the Blue Byte version Settlers games.

I played “The settlers online “ browser game for several years, different than the rts versions. Still Lots of fun.

you joking? mechanics is a hard pass. villiages clog up on roads in a conga line. It's just a mess.
@@Paperclown And who says you can’t build the roads better to prevent this? Road clogs were a thing since The Settlers 1994! I see a big potential.

@@martinkulich4784 lol i was about to blow 60 bucks on it. Was watching those Twitch channels for the totem item drop. And after a day those people quickly changed games last night I even saw Ubisoft streaming their old bicycle racing game than promote this one ! lol. I'll wait until it drops to $9 which is all its worth. Don't even need to factor in multiplayer because shortly after Far Cry 6 released that was empty to find co-op with too.
Been considering this. But now thinking of getting the history collection instead. Is that a good buy?

I've been looking for reviews of this game to give me an idea, but it seems like almost every avenue is older Settlers fans complaining that it's not like the old games. As someone who had never even heard of the franchise before but enjoyed RTS/City Builder games like the Halo Wars, Command & Conquer, Total War, Banished, Frotspunk and the Civilisation series, is this game worth it? Seems like every complaint is comparing it to older games, so I'd imagine that viewed in a vacuum it's passable.
This looks more like Knight's and merchant's.

The fact that you can't select maps or say do a three AI, and you against 4 AI in skirmish is pretty bad. Going to hold off for now.

@@UneditedCalves hey Richard, I recommend playing the Settlers 7 when you have time on Steam. It’s really fun, and I’d say is a pretty good taste of the settlers style. This is pretty much an entirely new game, something like Age of Empires. We were all expecting a better version of the order game and just got duped

Is it like age of empires?
I really like this game, they put a lot of love into it. They just shouldve made it clearer that this is a PVP focused version of the franchise, so old settlers fans wouldnt have been as shocked as they are now.
It lacks depth and here is why:
2019 Ubi presents a full feldged game, worthy of Settlers as a name, dynamic and complex eco.
2020, Ubi decides it needs to make more money and cancel until further notice
2021 Ubi reworks, reduced the complexity to be more appealing to more audiances
2022 presents dumbed down version of Settlers without eco focus, but milirairy focus
2023 Ubi reveals the real reason, added microtransactions, bigger auaiance, more micros, more money.
Settlers 7 had moe depth, way more. 6 was the best for me and 3 is up as legacy ofc.
But this? This wont make my top 5. It a bit better than Settlers 5 tho, but thats no a compliment.
Not buying this for a few years thats for sure.
I want that 2019 game.

If you like to put down buildings - it is game for you; If you like economy games lvl1+ - it is not for you, its lvl 0; If you like to have fun wiwth logistics - you can have a bit here; If you like to play against Enemy AI - it is not game for you, normal enemy ai doesnt exist in this game. Only scripted events and spawns of enemy "from outside". It is just a scam. Silently released, no reviewers - less impact on stock market. Saying that this is GREAT city builder / RTS it is just... bye

Won't be looking all over the place to buy this game. Not on steam than it Won't be on my computer. Simple. Not really loyal to steam but tired of developers putting games all over the place or expect us to join there own service to play. If it's good than release it on steam. Or allow a demo on steam.
You developers wonder why we're not buying games like we used to.

This is a terrbile version of settlers! Dumbed down sooo badly it makes it kiddie level... It used to be so good, be waiting to buy it for like 5 years, no way I'm parting with my money.. rubbish...
