After seeing your video, I feel that I am very lucky. My cat bites looked worse and my whole hand and half my arm was swollen and red. The orthopedic doctor wouldn't let me eat every night and would recheck it in the mornings. He just kept saying let's give the IV antibiotics another day cause he didn't want to cut open my finger, top of hand up to my wrist. I was so lucky to not have to go to surgery. God Bless.
i’m having this done tomorrow! had no idea the severity of a cat bite, i wasn’t worried about it but it’s only because a few friends warned me, i went to a&e and thought id have antibiotics, which i did along with a tetanus jab and an operation!!! 😬 i’ve had cats all life so had my fair share of bites and scratches but just this one time it went too deep and having to go hospital!
I would just die in America. I can’t afford a hospital visit. Last time my stomach hurt. Went to hospital. There for 2 hours. Saw doctor for less than 1 minute. Had one X-ray. 9,500 bill lol. I kid you not. Luckily I had insurance which many don’t. They got it down to 2,500. I had to pay that much for 2 hrs of sitting. One X-ray and talked with dr for a min. Who wants to live in USA? Pfft. Horrible, greedy place.

You would not die in America. If people do not have ins. or if ins. does not cover treatment, the hospital will write off the difference. You just have to apply for assistance, which is really easy to do. Just yesterday, I went to the hospital for a cat bite on my hand. Had x-rays and ultrasound and was given anti-biotics. If the swelling does not go down today, I will also need surgery, but so far no abscess has formed, though the infection can be seen on the ultrasound. I paid $2.00 for prescription co-pay, everything else is taken care of. So tired of people saying how things are in the US when what they are saying is often not true.
Yeah I got cat bite hand swelled way up and painful. Here 3 weeks later its almost all gone except a spot about the size of a dime and its like a rock hard behind the scab. Glad I didn't look it up till now I would have been freaking lol
I had a cat bite my index finger at the middle knuckle. After a week of heavy antibiotic treatment I ended up having to have two surgeries for draining and debridement of the finger. Plus over a month of therapy! To this day my finger is still significantly larger than the other one! Cat bites are no joke!
I had a cat bite my hand when she was trying to bite the handle of brush I was using on her. She loved getting brushed but also loved biting the handle. The startled look on her face when her fangs sunk into my hand was funny. I washed it with soap and water. It was early in the morning so I went into work and called the dr as soon as the office opened. I got a back within 10 minutes telling me to come in asap. Got a tetanus shot and antibiotic. Apparently a staff member was hospitalized with a cat bite because she waited to be seen, almost lost her hand. Dr was a bit paranoid that it would happen to me because I have a compromised immune system.
Omg stuff like this terrifies me! Literally heard stories about pets licking someone's wound and it getting infected and leading to amputation 😳 So glad you're doing okay! ♥️
Thank you so much! I’m glad I was treated so fast, I definitely downplayed how serious it was :/ Oh wow that’s really scary! It’s crazy how quickly things can escalate. One of the nurses at the hospital said her cat’s tooth lightly grazed the skin on her arm while playing, and she thought nothing of it because no blood or anything was drawn, but the next day it had swelled up and so painful :O I was just glad I was already being treated when she told me that lol
I'm watching this bc I got a very hard aggressive affection bite from a well acquainted stray. I have one puncture on my left index. Washed & rinsed it thoroughly as soon as it happened. It bled for a few mins then I forgot abt it. Until 4 hours ago when the swelling suddenly blew up. Now it's rapidly spreading up my index finger & down my hand. I'm very worried & afraid of going to the ER bc of the medical charges. Should I go to ER?
@@EliseHewlett exactly!! going in and expecting them to extend the antibiotics only for them to tell you you have to be admitted to the hospital right then and there and have a surgery… like you said i was NOT mentally prepared

I too was naive about the seriousness of cat bites. When the cat bit down, his teeth were fully immersed in my hand. The anatomy of cats teeth essentially means that their tooth acts like a dirty needle delivering pathogenic bacteria deep into the skin. The infection spread in the deep layers of my hand and I was at risk of systemic infection if it got into the blood stream. I rocked up to the hospital thinking I’d get a dose of antibiotics and go on my way, but no, I was also shocked to hear they needed to go in surgically to check there was no foreign debris and clean out the wound. The risks of surgery and general anaesthetic are not to be taken lightly but they deemed it necessary. A principle of medicine is to do no harm, and it’s all about risk vs. reward really.
