The symbol ‘the poppy’ was for decades recognised for remembrance of the brave men from all creeds that fell during the great wars. The support and indeed the wearing of that symbol was in most cases always respected, yet that all changed significantly when the British legion in 1990s adopted the symbol to represent 'all' historical wars, conflicts and involvements by British armed forces. Today the symbol of the poppy and what it represents has become so diluted, that many people see reason not to celebrate it. Involvement by British armed forces in places such as India, Iraq and Ireland to name but a few are not without controversy. Glasgow Celtic FC 1888 donate more to the poppy fund than any other organisation in Scotland and have done so for decades. Freedom of expression comes in many forms and for some that is not to applaud the poppy for what some see it represents today.
