    Despite the (possible) lack of maintenance, it's nice a shortline railroad is in business.

    Thank you, Jason, for pointing out to the kids that they don't belong on railroad property. It's well possible that no one ever told them that ever before.

      One would like to believe the mother would want to keep her kids safe at all times. But apparently, she thinks trespassing is normal for kids their age.

    Ut oh, I see one of the cab end waggle lights is out! Looks like it's winking at you as if to say, "I have a secret"! Don't worry about those people, they just need to get a life. Nobody needs that BS. To see the power coming to the broken pole crossing was awesome, they were grinding! The best part, listen to the horns as they pass you at the crossing, always one my favorite moments. I hope you get the rain you need up there, down here in SE Michigan we got plenty last night as those storms blew through. If I could, I would send you some for your garden. LOL. On to the next.

    Hi, Jason! Appreciated this video! Loved the sound of those
    EMD’s in run 8! I counted 49 cars: 2 tanks, 16 center beams,
    and 31 gons. That’s a lot of weight, assuming the tanks are
    empties; the rest were all heavy
    loads. Those SD’s took ‘em up
    the hill like it was nothing. I
    figured a conservative figure of
    close to 6,000 tons, or 5,780
    tons. 47 loads and 2 empties.
    I gave the smart siding 125 tons
    per car, the scrap 120 tons per
    car and the tanks 32.5 tons per
    car to make it even! Thanks again! Love watching the ELS!

    The trusty old pole actually looked like a pencil jammed into the ground. It really is worthy of a State Historical marker lol. Last week when they had the considerable batch of empty log cars plus the 18 loads of siding they left behind 10 cars of scrap.Now we have this week's production so they figured on 2 units for the extra tonnage. It is interesting to note the high percentage of DJJX and DJNX gondolas that were utilized. This may indicate a change in destination for the scrap as DJ Joseph supplies scrap for Nucor Steel and their closest mill to this area is located in Crawfordsville IN.or Bourbanis IL A nice shot at the end as the sun came out while the train disappeared Into the Woods

    Always turn your camera and show the locomotiventering a crossing in case someone is hit. At 10:10 you would have completely missed such a mishap.
    Show everything that is happening in public, including trespassers of any age.
    You havevery righto zoom in on trespassers and anything else in public you and/or we may find interesting.

    MOW is not an acronym they know. First crossing you were at, the wheels were clicking something fierce. Must be a big gap in the rail there. Whole line looks abandoned with all the grass, weeds, etc. Don't they know weeds cause ties to break down faster? Seems they are only reactionary, fix it when there's a derailment. If they upped the maint. they could go faster. Sad.

    Easy to resolve your issue with Matt and who ever as I did with my prior retirement work, Not my Circus, not my clowns. if ELS starts pulling Iron Ore they are going to start looking for engines and track upgrades. I was hoping 503 be rear DPU.

      You won't see DPUs on E&LS, the locos are not set up with radios to control another loco that is not physically connected to another. All in the train must have the air hose/electrical cabling attached.

    • @williammcgeehan3424
      @williammcgeehan3424 Місяць тому +2

      @@amb865 Yes if they have some engines facing the other way they don't have to turn the set around on a return trip. No turntable. No wye shaped track structure to turn an engine or set of engines. This is sometimes why you'll see engines with a cab on each end for passenger trains or a cab control car on one end of a passenger train with the unmanned engine shoving from the back.

      @@williammcgeehan3424 good to know - thanks for the additional info. My great grandfather was a switchman for a railroad and was killed by a train when my grandmother was a little girl. I’ve always been interested in learning more about trains and this is a gentle channel to learn on

      For years, I volunteered on a tourist line in Indiana. We ran with an engine on each end of the train because we had limited facilities to turn equipment. When running an engine long hood forward, visibility is quite limited for the crew. It's always important for the engineer and conductor to work well together, but especially when running long nose forward. The GP units that we ran had the control stand behind the engineer so he/she had to sit side-saddle to reach the brake handles and to see ahead.

  • @BudgieJane
    @BudgieJane Місяць тому +1

    I live in the UK, and here we have a saying that covers the trespassers completely. "Ignorance of the law is no defence". This must also apply in the USA, because it is such a fundamental thing in the law, and your legal system started off as our legal system, and although much has changed between our two legal systems since, that fundamental bit hasn't. So whoever told you that they didn't know they were trespassing should be informed of that principle and if they were arrested and taken to court for it they would not be able to escape justice because they didn't know the law.
