I used to play this game in my childhood a lot, but only the campaign. I have tried to get into multiplayer last year, but I found it too hard and quit to play other stuff. Now I am determined to get better, and your vids are really interesting and helpful. Keep it up!

After growing up with RTS-games, a few of my friends and I started to play AOE3 in 9th grade and fell instantly in love with the game. And we have you to thank for much of our knowledge, starting out playing online we were obviously clueless but thanks to some of your videos on stategies and gameplay we started to figure the game out. To this day (8 years later) we still play a few times a year and the voice chat almost always starts with a classic "whats up youtube, samurairevolution here". Regards from Sweden.
Great beginner reference! As a beginner myself, I was told the best way to learn is to watch gameplay videos. I started with a tournament match and panicked at all the micro-management going on. This video is so much easier to digest while still showing off some nice strategies, and I feel much more confident about trying it out myself now. Thank you!!
Can you do beginner tutorials for each country? and can you provide some tips & strategy on which country trumps which country? “Rock-paper-scissor”. I just bought the game to play with my little brother and my son.
For one thing, turning off the "bloom effect" and changing camera mode to "very far" made the game look very much like AOE2, if you want the old one like me it's better.
I don't think this is a good example to follow for the beginners. There are a bunch of things I would do differently! Starting example:- 1 settler for mining, 3 for foresting, 2 for hunting; - Explorer collecting treasures (except the ones with more than 3 human guardians), exploring ate the same time; - build an house, next the market, then outpost; - upgrade market improvements; - reaching 800 food, advance to the second age; - build barracks, stable, artillery foundry; and so on. One more thing, do it slowly! In my point of view, there are ages to advance and so many cool things to improve and upgrade! I rather prepare a strong army than a small one and start killing the opponent!
MikeVonDoom i think its ok even for beginners to see what it means to be able to beat the game on hard difficulty. but u are right. its better to learn the game slowly and know about what the different upgrades and ages do. i was hoping to get the card deck and its strategy explained too as a beginner. but still, pretty soon i want to be able to fight several opponents and know how to expand my territory fast, so its good to see how a good player does it, and keep the method in mind for later.
***** If you can beat the game on Easy, you can beat it on Hard as long as you got the practice and can do basically the same thing, but faster. If anything, this video's proved that. He doesn't do market upgrades, he doesn't even make groups and, well, he doesn't have to. Churns out a very small army, ships one artillery and it's GG. Defends against a single raid, if one can even call it that much. He did nothing a new player wouldn't know to do if they play the tutorial, he mostly just did it quickly. Shoddy AI coding, this game, it's a pity. AOE2 AI was better, I think. Not markedly, but somewhat better. This is not to bash AOE3, I like it, have played thru every campaign and quite a few skirmishes. Currently replaying it (for the expansions), at that.
I'd love it if you ever did a tutorial vid on basically beating the other team when they're coming in fast. The biggest problem I have with going to the next level, is that the other team is sending out mass groups of soldiers after me before I can even have the room to hold as many as they're sending out. I tried multiple ways to try and get faster at doing so, but even though I've gotten a bit better, nothing is working to actually get very far.
Well that's kinda the point on why I want to learn to beat it on that difficulty. I want to get better at it and any of the difficulty levels below that have become way to easy now.
i have some questions -how many setlers do you need in the beginning -what do the setlers have gather -when do you have to age -what country is good and wich isn't (i am portugal ) -when do have to make walls/ is it worth it to make walls -do you have to use your fort offensive or deffensive -are trading posts worth it -where to place your outposts -what to attack when you are attacking -do you have to upgrade your units? -are pikeman good? -when do you have to attack -the building to fatten animals for food is that worth it, -are mortars worth it -do you need units on horses in your army ?????????????????? if you answer any off these questions it will be greatly appreciated
mathivdz watch videos of matches with good players, and then u will have several of your answers explained. like how they use pikemen and against whom (good against horsemen), when and if they build walls. some people just build the start of walls for removing the fog of war as a tactic to see if the enemy is approaching, not the entire walls...and so on. im also a beginner and dont have real answers... but this is how i learn.
mathivdz -You need to have at least 9-10 settlers before age 2. -Let settlers gather food first before age 2. -Age up when you have 10 settlers available -Ottoman is best civilisation (i play as Ottoman and Japanese in Asian Dynasties) -Make walls at age 3 -Use fort defensive (its really powerful against enemy infantry) -Trading posts are very worth, both for civs and trade routes) -Place outposts near your other buildings -It depends. You can first go for guardians of treasures. -Upgrading units isnt necessary for beginners, but if u play against hard opponents u must upgrade them -Pikemen are great against mounted units and buildings -Attack as soon as u reach age 2 (rush) -No it isn't worth -Mortars are outstanding when it comes to destroying town enters, forts and ships. -Of course you need mounted units.
Buying sheeps and fatten em is really worth it ir you are fast anouth so it doesnt occupy you too much. Great to rush villagers because it give huge amount of food. 1 sheep is 100 food cost and gives you 300 back cows are even better
A mistake I made was the hidden cost of stuff, like producing heavy cannons and shipments. Sure heavy fortifications looks good in theory, but by industrial you already probably have stone walls and not many towers, so 8 lancers (or others) would actually save you more resources (880 food, 720 coin versus 300 wood/food/coin). I've also never been able to justify capitalism as Spain. It seemed cool, until you realize it takes you five minutes to equal the age one coin shipment. You are better off just sending coin if you want some, or economic theory which has far greater utilitarian value than any age 1 resource gather speed card.
waiting for definitive edition. I have played AOE series for like 6-7 years alongside mythology and rise of nations. but i'll resume to AOE after like a decade :D So its good to watch your videos before going right into the action.

I lost my account from way back, so starting off new. 😕 Both two games from yesterday, I lost horribly. Saw wall setups I never seen before, so when I tried to catch up with building walls for team DEF, it was too late and got pressured hard since. I assume there's no right or wrong way for base design setup? Is it okay to have 3 TCs close to each other? Just trying to get out of awkward 'growing pains' phase.

You know you can ring the bell from town center and it will put the settlers in the closest garrison able building.

ie: 12 workers then 1 barrack then 1 refinery
It depends on the civilization. Most are 13-16 villagers, then 1 stable or barracks & market
