I moved here 1 year ago. Saw the owner was paying 3K in property taxes 1yr after my purchase taxes are now $7k huge jump. Was told taxes will go up as they recess it, but that amount was beyond what I thought. Same thing happened to my daughter.

The "Save Our Homes" benefit caps homesteaded property taxes at 3% per year increase in FL. When the property is sold, taxes are reassessed at the new sales price minus any homesteaded benefits (50k non-school and 25k school assessment)

    Our homeowners insurance is REDICULOUS!
When we moved to FL it WAS considered way cheaper than where we came from.
Now we don't know what to do.

So about what range would the basic living cost be for a single person in the Tampa area now?
I'm in the Cleveland area, and I get by on $800-$1000 per month, but I own a house with mortgage paid off. This price, though, only includes the bare necessities, never going out anywhere to do anything or restaurants, and no regular buying of a wardrobe...just minimally as needed.
If you can handle the fairly mild winters, someone can really save alot here. And really the Cleveland area gets a bad rap, it has kinda a small town feel to it.
I'm retired and since alot of my friends are in Tampa, I still want to move there. I can pay cash, but the problem is I have yet to find a realtor that can show me a $250K house--$275K tops.
I just saw some new homes in North River Ranch, two bedroom villas. They were still slightly larger than what I want and lowest was around $313K. If I win something in the lottery then I'll get it, hah. But those odds are too much against us too.

I would love to move to northern Pinellas county. Im tired of living on long island. All the rude people, stuck up entitled women. Angry Karen's. Bad traffic on the LIE. 😉

I would try to stay away from Citizens horrible company. I have AAA bundled with the cars too. Citizens may have been a little cheaper but in Fl. it's important to pay more & deal with a better company.
